Lightroom :: Synchronize Folder Then Import New Photos
Jul 28, 2012I am new to Lightroom, and just purchased LR 4, upgraded to LR 4.1 and catolog my photo files. After this, I uploaded some photos from a SD card to a common folder (e.g. "Uploads 2012") on my hard drive using LR. This worked well. I then used Windows Explorer to drag/drop those files into their respective proper folders (there were many files on the card that were appropriate for different existing folders on my computer).
Here's where the problem starts. Prior to this uploading session, I had 297 files in a photo folder. Afterwards, I had 427 photos in this same folder. Using LR 4.1, I chose to "synchronize folder", then "import new photos" (it recognizes that there are new photos in this dialogue box). The program tells me this task is completed, but afterwards there remain 297 photos in the LR folder, and 427 photos in the location in Windows Explorer.

Oct 15, 2009I edited a picture and saved it in the same directory, as a PNG. On my next launch of Lightroom (2.1), I right-clicked on the folder and said "Synchronize folder". The file still isn't shown in Lightroom. If I pick "Show in Finder" on the folder, the PNG is right there and it opens up just fine in Preview when double-clicked.

Nov 1, 2013When I select the Synchronize option, it says there are over 295,000 images, which is impossible. 15 to 20,000 at most. So I never start it, cause I'm afraid of what it's trying to catalog. Why would it be giving me such a number?

Jun 18, 2012I took a trip yesterday and wanted to tag my images with gps data. I used my Samsung Galaxy 8.9 tablet's camera to record gps info by taking a shot at each location. The gps data is in the jpegs. I copied the images into my folder containing the images from my camera. I can use Photo GPS Extractor to view the image's location on Google Maps. The image location is also indicated on Google maps when viewing on the tablet. But, when I synchronise the folder to add the images to the Lightroom Library, the gps info is no longer available. The gps info is not available to ANY program after synchronising the folder in Lightroom. It seems as if Lightroom is removing that info from the metadata.

Lightroom :: Synchronize Folder Special Character
Apr 14, 2012Some of my folders are in norwegian special characters (æøå). When I try to synchronize such a folder it can say that I have 152 new photos (all the photos in this folder) and that 152 photos are missing. When I use "Show in Finder" all the photos are ok. I don't like the folders to not be in sync, so I go on and synchronize the folders. Then I end up with two folders inside LR, but one is grayed out and contains 0 photos. I delete the grayed out one and continue to use LR. When I try synchronize folders right after this, it looks fine. But after a while the problem is back and I have to repeat the synchronizing. If I select "Update Folder Location" instead, the problem is fixed.
I use Lightroom 4.1 RC (but the problem was present in LR 4 as well). I have never used LR before, so I don't know about previous versions. My os is Mac OS X 10.7.3.

Feb 18, 2013Lightroom 3.6 is not finding my newly exported .jpg files when I use Synchronize Folder. This has been working for me since I got LR many months ago, but today after I make adjustments to a .cr2 file and export the file to a .jpg file in the same folder, synchronize folder isn't finding the new .jpg files. Interestingly I used Windows Live Photo Gallery to copy/resize one of the .jpg files I'd exported, and LR *does* find that file, just not the originally exported one.

Dec 5, 2012I am having this problem whenever I synchronize a folder that images have been added into.
Example: I have a folder of images in LR; I export all those images with a watermark, resized, etc. into a separate folder of proofs; even though I performed that batch process using LR, for some reason the app still won't see those images until I synchronize; when I do synchronize, it is shifting the color temp to +8 and the tint to -11; I then have to go back and undo that color temp shift.
How do I get LR to stop changing the color temp of images when synchronizing?

Aug 31, 2012I believe that only exporting the smart collection settings is not enough. I have in my collections a hierarchy of collection set, collection and smart collection that works with my workflow:
-special [CS]
-- pano [SC]
-- fuse [SC]
-themes
-- holiday... [SC]
-- ...
- worklist [CS]
-- dominant color [CS]
--- dominant color to review [SC]
--- dominant color reviewed [C]
-- weather [CS]
etc.
-- geography [CS]
etc.
Being able to export the hierarchy from one specific node would be great when I switch from catalog to catalog. After all, smart collections content can be re-created.
I've seen that in the DB, there are these two tables that would need to be 'copied' : agLibraryCollection & agLibraryCollectionContent. Their IDs when importing in the new catalog would probably pose a problem if we were just to import them like that.
On the other hand, there are in the SDK some functions to go through the collections and some functions to create collections, collection-sets, smartCollections...
Would it be difficult to include such a functionality in a future release ?Would it be difficult or possible to write in the mean time a plugin that would do just that: import/export collection hierarchies ?
Lightroom :: Get A Folder To Appear In Folder List / When Trying To Import Pictures?
Nov 27, 2012There is a folder on my hard drive that does not appear in the list of folders in the import dialog. I have tried expanding all the other folders around it (my photos are filed by date of capture) to see if it was somehow imported as a subfolder. It is simply not there. I can find and open it and access all the pictures in Photoshop Elements but not in Lightroom 4.

However, that folder is not showing in my library. Is there a way to correct this? The photo is there but they only way I can see it is to search for it and it will appear.

Aug 2, 2012I've been using Bridge for a bunch of years. I have a large amount of photos. They are all keyword in Bridge. I've created a hierarchy of keyword that works quite well and evolve naturally.I have approx 16-17 TB data distributed on 7 NAS servers. Works quite well.
The big pain with Bridge is that it isn't a very coool photo-database. LR on the other hand cool work like the photo-db. LR can reference photos on NAS servers and it has search mechanism and can function as photo-db.
I have a large bunch of photos with assigned keywords. Can I import these pictures in LR and have the keyword along?
Lightroom :: Existing Video Files Won't Import?
Jun 26, 2012I have several hundred videos I have taken, either with a Canon SD800, Canon S95, Canon T2i or a GoPro.
New videos I take on this equipment works just fine when adding to Lightroom. But when I try to import older files, I get error: video file not imported with the quantity in parenthesis.
I have tried purging the video cache, I have tried task manager - disabling dynamiclinkmanager and dynamiclinkmediaserver. Occasionally I will be able to import one or two videos after doing this but then it hangs up again.
Running Win7, LR4.1.
I don't have anything else up and running when I do this.
Lightroom :: Cannot Find Virtual Copies In Windows Folder
Jul 29, 2012I can not remember to have encountered this before, so here I go: I just created a virtual copy of some photos from my summer holiday, and all works well. But when I needed to access these photos going the Windows' way (Windows/My Pictures that is), the virtual copies do not appear in my YYYYMM folder. Going back to LR though, they will appear there with a /Copy 1 extension. RIghtclicking the VC, then "Show in Explorer" will highlight the original in the folder, the VC still not being there. Part of the frustration is that I can not remember this happening before (or maybe it has), so I'm wondering if I by accident have changed any settings.
Running LR 4.1 on Windows 7 64-bit.
Lightroom :: Import Into Only One Folder?
May 29, 2012I guess this is new in LR 4, but when I import, I select the folder I want the images imported to, but LR creates subfolders for each day, not what I want.
For example, I just imported from my CF card all the images shot this past weekend and ended up with four subfolders (2012-05-24, 2012-05-25, 2012-05-26 and 2012-05-27).
What I wanted was for all the images to go into one folder.

Nov 27, 2012when i do import pictures into LR 4.2 (Win8 Pro x64, i7 2600K, 16GB), i'm having the following problem:
In import dialog window i can create a new target folder without any problems, i can import the pictures to that folder without any error.
After import process is complete, in the left pane (Folders) the pictures are in the folder i created a step before, but the folder is listed topmost in the "root" directory, not at the right place matching the directory structure - the pictures are physically stored in the correct folder. (So i can't just drag'n drop the folder to it's right place, says it's already there...)
Before this behaviour came up (worked well before), i did two changes to my system:
1. Upgrading W7>W8
2. Splitting System and Data: OS and programs are on SSD, data is on a RAID 1 MatrixRAID
My users-folder is a hard linked directory junction from SSD to MatrixRAID (mklink)
C:UsersUsername -> E:UsersUsername
(mklink /h /j C:UsersUsername E:UsersUsername)
So maybe LR can't deal with that? What can I do so that the imported folder shows up at the right place after import?

Nov 27, 2012So sometimes you want to just import everything on a card into LR in one go, and then move it around later (like when you shoot 2 jobs in day, but you need to have the files in separate folder).
At the moment I have to import into LR, come out of LR into explorer and move the files, then reassociate them in LR. I would be nice If you could just import an empty folder and them move the files within LR

Previously I'd just copy the photos from the camera card into the folder on the hard drive and then run a catalog "import in place" to get LR to find the files. I have now upgraded to a Canon 7D and thought I'd try the "Import from card" function after this weekend's shoot. I had too folders to import to, but in each case LR created sub folders under each of these as "2013" and "2013.4.28". I see from other posts that this may be a default folder structure that LR imposes. Is it possible to turn this function off and just import from the card directly into the folder of my choice.
Failing this I'm faced with the prospect of moving all the files back to the "root" sub-folder and then re-cataloging, or going back to my previous method of copy first (in explorer) and then cataloging.

Sep 5, 2013Running Macbook Pro, OS 10.8.4.Trying to import abouth 65 images from a folder on my desktop. I can clearly see the folder and all the images in Finder, so I know they're there.
However, in LR4 the folder in question is ghosted (others are not), with no contents at all. Note: I have heard of a PNG/XMP image issue with this problem, so I converted all the images to .jpgs, but still have the same issue.

May 21, 2013I am new to LightRoom and am about to import more than 600 folders.These folders on the disc have names that relate to the content, and I was wondering if it is possible to add the folder names as keywords during import?
So if a photo is in /Weddings/New York/Chris and Charlie Hansen it would be tagged with 'Weddings, New York, Chris and Charlie Hansen' as keywords during import.
Naturally I would like this to happen dynamically so when import hundreds of folders in one go, the keywords are assigned as relevant. should I do it manually after import (which is of course possible, but quite a bit of work).

Jan 16, 2012I am trying to sync my folders but Lightroom is not importing all of the photos in the folder. In one folder I have 675 photos (both jpg and CR2) and Lightroom is only importing 1. Even though you can look at the folder in another window and see all 675 (photo below). This is happening in several of my folders.
The folders that have problems have arrows that are greyed out versus solid grey arrows. If the info is needed:
- Mac Mini - OSX (Leopard)
- Lightroom 3
- Photos were in Aperature prior to exporting out to import into Lightroom
- Photos were either taken with Canon Rebel XS or Canon Powershot S3IS
- I have tried optimizing my catalog.
- I have tried remove the folder from Lightroom and re-importing. Still only recognizes 1 photo.
- The do not import duplicates button is not clicked
- I have confirmed that all filters are off.
