View 3 RepliesI have never really figured out how to properly build an illustrator file in a way that it will fill properly so my only other option (that I know of) is to use Live Paint. Unfortinately Live paint also wrecks all my line weights. It also makes the object noneditable later down the road. I found this out the hard way for a logo project at college and spent over 30 hours on it just trying to fiddle with the illustrator program, looking up tutorials that never seemed to work for me and nonstop frustration.
This time Live paint doesn't work at all. (I'm trying to paint in a more complicated object than a simple logo). First off my object has gaps in it, and even when I click "Gap options" it doesn't appear to do anything and there are still gaps. So I try to fill them in myself but this wrecks my line weights. And finally Live paint appears to work but only on certain objects such as the eyes, the nose, annd the ears, yet it refuses to fill in the entire body of the animal I'm trying to colour in. I drew this animal in illustrator with the pen tool and applied line weights with the line weight tool. Yes there are numerous gaps in the image.
This is what it looks like as of now:

Only imagine it not in a pdf but an illustrator file because yes I have the original and yes it's vector.
Also I use Adobe illustrator CS6
After saving a CS6 AI document as CS5 version, and open it with CS6 again, effect like dropshadow has been expanded and no more editable.
You know, using Illustrator CS5 save document as CS4 version is just OK.
(PC 32bit CS6)
After doing a live trace and expand on an object I now need to separate one object into two. I tried using both the scissors and the knife tool and neither tool work. When I select two anchor points on opposite side of each other to split the object it just adds a line in the middle with the object as a whole still in tact.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow can I back save illustrator files created in CC (CS7 version???) to CS6 without losing layers? when I open the files in CS6 it says "some info will be lost' Ha! all layers and separation is lost, so cannot separate parts whole file seems grouped and cannot be separated? When I go back to my (other) computer where I was foolish enough to upgrade to CC, way to save back as I can with InDesign and saving as a idml file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am working with Illustrator CS6 and when I save a file to an earlier version - CS3 or CS - that has a drop shadow effect, the effect gets rasterized. Drop shadows are not new to this latest version of Illustrator so shouldn't they still be editable when saving to a version above CS?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a file, one or more layer are opened/expanded in the layer tab on the side of the screen. I can close the layer, make modifications, and save; but when I open it up, the layer is always opened. It doesn't happen with every file. But on the files that do have this, it's always like this.

Create a path snapped to pixel.
Disable align to pixel on all paths.
Select the entire path and create a new symbol with align to pixel disabled OR (it makes no difference) create a new symbol from a temporary path and then paste in place. Everything looks good. Paths are aligned to pixel.
Exit isolation symbol mode.
Go back into isolation mode.
All your paths are offset by miniscule amounts causing them to bleed into each other. You can't realign your paths with snap to pixel because snap to pixel doesn't work for a set of paths because it snaps to a random path or something.
Or you can enable align to pixel and have the copy paste completely mess up your paths.
Why would you expand paths that are snapped to pixel by a miniscule amount on a paste?
Is this fixed in CS6?
I create all of my lineart for illustrations, in Adobe Illustrator. I use the pen tool in combination with the line width tool to create line weight. Once I have completed all of the line work, I select everything and Expand. This results in not having fills for teh areas of the illustration which need to be colored.
From there, what I do is select everything > livepaint > make. I then fill in each area with a base color, using the live paint bucket tool. Once completed, I again select everything > expand. This leaves me fills that I can select indivually to apply gradients and work with directly.
This process works great until I expand the live paint group. After expanding, there is a very thin white border everywhere that two seperate colors meet. This only happens after expanding, it does not happen when it is still a live paint group. I have tried every option in the expand window, and get the same result.
I have exported the completed work in several formats ( .jpg, eps, .png ) and the lines are still there.
save brushes for CS5 while using CS6?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just learned how to make my own brush (having fun now! ) but couldn't permanently save it. I was able to save it to the brush preset group I had open by choosing "new brush" from the brush palette, but when I switched brush groups and then back to the group I had saved it in, it was gone. I tried this several times with the same result - only saves the brush until I switch brush groups, then its gone when I go back to the group I made it in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently did a upgrade to my PC and had to reinstall Windows 7 and all the software/programs on my PC. I have Photoshop CS5 working fine and all, but one thing it is doing that it never did in the past is ...
I set my workspace up to how I wanted it to be - put my history pallet where I want it, loaded all my brushes, actions, etc. it used to always be there when I opened PS up the next time. Now, since my PC Re-install, it seems to go back to default ... is there a way to stop this ?
I know how to make brushes and save them as a set but I have no idea how to save the set as a .zip
I'm working on a Mac in Photoshop 7. I also have CS3 but I haven't created any brushes in 10 yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn trying to save a custom brush in gimp I got the following message :
GIMP MESSAGE:
Saving '/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/brush.gih' failed:
Could not open '/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/brush.gih' for writing: Permission denied.
Although I have successfully done this in the past ,for some reason it is now preventing me from saving them in the 'brushes' folder. Incidentally although the brushes I previously produced do NOT appear in this folder (despite having show all files ticked) they do appear in the gimp dialogue and I can use them.
Im using uberstudent (Linux)
I've checked gimp's 'preferences' to see if I have inadvertantly blocked access but cant see anything relevant..
I really enjoy this new draw inside feature in Illustrator. But, I find that it does not always work. It seems to be grayed out sometimes. For example, I have drawn a shape with my Wacom tablet using a blush. I then converted it to a shape instead of keeping it a stroke by expanding it. But it will not allow me to now draw inside of it, even though it is a shape.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am currently using autocad 2002. An engineering firm has sent me a dwg file that was created using a much newer version of autocad. I asked them to save it back to version 2000, so I can open it. Well, I can open the file, but I'm getting this command "ARXERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass.. whenever I do a basic command??
Now I have gotten dwg files from other firms, and they have worked flawlessly. Would it be how this particular firm has saved the file?

I have Revit MEP 2012 and created a small guest house in this program. I wanted to add some features using Revit Architecture 2011that are not available in the MEP program. When I tried to bring the files up in the Revit architecture program I get an error message that the drawing was created in a later version of Revit. Is there any way to save the MEP file back to an earlier version of Revit like one could do with Autocad drawings?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI exported an image from LightRoom to Photoshop to edit it. After saving it in Photoshop and closing, I went back to LightRoom and couldn't find it anywhere. Usually it's in the same folder as the original. I also can't find it anywhere on my hard drive or in recent files in Photoshop. I know it saved it because it was a huge file and I had to wait for it to save before photoshop would close.

View 1 Replies View Related1. Artistic Media tool must draw in color! That's why we call it "Artistic" - first choose color, and then draw. It is natural.
2. After the object was created and COLORED by me, everything was fine, I try to reduce the size of the work and realize that I was forgot to mark "Scale stroke with object" option and there comes two problems:
2.1. I can't select multiple AMT-objects and change this COMMON option for them.
2.2. When I change this option FOR EVERY SINGLE OBJECT I previously made, it turns strokes back to black color!
And now comes the third and fourth problems:
3. Now I must SELECT OBJECTS ONE-BY-ONE AGAIN to re-color them!
4. And I have to remember every color for every stroke?!
I use Photoshop 6.0.1 on XP Home, SP 2.
I have been unsuccessfully trying to create a transparent gif, which is composed of an image, one word on the left side of the image, one word (some font/color) on the right side of the image, and a group of 3 words in a blank area of the image. I created a new file in CorelDraw, exported it as a jpg, opened it in Photoshop, selected the Magic Wand tool, selected the entire file, then hit "delete", but the gray/white checkered background did not appear, although the flickering lines were around all parts of the image/file.
When I say complicated I mean absurdedly so, enough to make some lose hair.
Just look at the background, I dont want to make a seperate JPG minus login input, so that will do for now.
Anyways, I've been wanting to convert it to a more firey look, and this is what I've got for the internals.

How to make a flame effect on the same scale as the lightning, without deteriorating from the rest of the image. I've tried very hard and very soft liquifies, I've tried wind effects to no avail, I've turned the orb from rectangular to polar and back again more times than I choose to count. But the end result is that the flames just dont look real or cool at all.
how I can smooth out the flames and make it look better?
I want high density, realistic flames, and I've tried Panopticum Fire and other things... it just never looks right though.
I have recently started using AutoCAD so I'm still figuring it out. I would like to create a line like this
¯¯¯V¯¯¯¯¯¯V¯¯¯¯¯¯V¯¯¯¯¯¯V¯¯¯¯¯¯V¯¯¯ and another one like this ¯¯V¯¯ ¯¯V¯¯ ¯¯V¯¯ ¯¯V¯¯ ¯¯V¯¯ (where the Vs link up with the line).
I have tried to do this through the lin file and have failed. The lines don't meet up, the gaps aren't in the right place and the line does not run along the top but in the middle: I have fiddles around with it but it complicated and long to do. I have also investigated creating these lines using express tools but it seems that this tool is not an option in AutoCAD LT 2010.
things with Ps, but I can't seem to figger out how to make selections out of scanned drawings.. like a selection of hair or arms...
