View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a logo that consists of the word DIFFERENT in text and a shape, a dot (an ellipse) that I want to appear above the I and be vertically aligned with I.
How can I do this? The problem is that I can't see how to identify the point in the text - the centre of the I - to act as the target. I can't seem to get any of the Snap to Object tools to work.
I feel that I should be able to mark a specific point anywhere on a shape or an object and use those points to align.
I suspect that I could achieve the effect that I want by splitting the text characters up into individual objects, than I can align them more obviously but then I set up some other issues with kerning.
I'm sure this is mind-numbingly obvious and I am overlooking it, but when I go to use the rotate tool, the center point of the rotation is defaulting to the center of the artboard, not the selected group of objects. How do I change that to default to rotating on the selection center by default?
PS. This is Illustrator CC (17.0.2) on a Mac running 10.9, if that is relevant.
I am only seeing the corners, is there a way to resize a shape from center when creating an animation?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using CS3 on a Mac.
I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
What does it mean when Illustrator v.15.1.0 ceases to contract a shape using offset paths and will only expand a shape? Seems like only yesterday I could render both ways. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday! Why would it suddenly stop funtioning?

How do I make the shape transparent so the shape may be filled with the background color?
I'm trying to repurpose some artwork and am running into an issue. In the image below, I simply want to delete the bottom right corner of the blue box so that the orange background is visible along the right edge of the curved shape and the blue box is visible along the left edge of the curved shape. But I cannot figure out how to do this. I've tried all the Pathfinder choices and none work. How can I do this? CS6, Windows 7.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to cover a section of letters that have been outlines with a red box over a serif for a homework project. HOWEVER. Everytime I do this, it looks like I have it all lined up and when I make another point, the points move on its own to be off and not cover the object Say I complete the box and try to cover the object by just dragging and dropping, it will avoid that area and move it off to one side or the other but never align with the actual object I'm trying to cover for a smooth and even coverage. Trying to get the red box to cover the black serif and it won't do it.

I'm new to Adobe Illustrator (CS5) and, as the topic says, have an very basic question: how to hide a shape behind another shape? (say a star shape behind a rectangle)
I've looked up on tutorials and such and from what I've seen, the layers order containing each of the objects decides how the occlusion should occur, however I've tried doing that but with no luck, am I missing something here?
I am using Illustrator CS3 on a Mac 10.5.8.
I am trying to create a compound shape from a compound shape I have prepared.
The first part works okay. I can combine the hexagon-compound-shape I have created from multiple hexagon shapes.
I then want to cut away the edges on a part of the compound shape (using a box of 4 rectangles), which is supposed to give me a rectangle with only the lines from the compund-shape inside this rectangle (image 1).
But when I cut away the box around my hexagon-compound-shape (using the Pathfinder window), the hexagon-compound shape inside behaves strangely, with only some of the lines showing and other lines missing (image 2).
I would like the rectangles to simply just cut away the lines that the rectangles are covering, and leave behind the lines in my hexagon-compound-shape, as they appeared in image 1, and not having hexagon-compound-shape changing which lines appear and disappear.
I have an illustrator file (various circles and half circles) built with various layers, I would like to copy and past these layers into Photoshop and change them to a shape layer, but when copying each layer and pasting the vector falls in slightly different place to the illustrator file, how can I keep the position the same as the illustrator?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn CS5, if you hold the ALT key (on windows, not mac) while resizing the artboard, it will scale from the center... creating an even width reduction/ increase on either side of the page. Why was this behavior removed in CS6?

I have a radial gradient applied to an object, but I cannot figure out how to move the center of the gradient.
The gradient's center is aligned to the object's center. Can I move the gradient's origin, or possibly the objects center? I attached a screenshot for referance.
If I cannot adjust any obj/gradient centers, can I just create my gradient in PS and create a Clipping Mask?
Envelope distort to center of the object only possible?
How to achieve the effect shown in the image? If not with Illustrator what software can do this effect?
It's like an envelope distort but like the object (small circles) is not entirely wrapped into the envelope.
I tried moving the corners of the applied envelope towards the center of the object but it resizes the entire shape along with it...
how to draw a circle with its center at the starting cursor location of the drag motion? It's given that the ellipse shape tool is chosen.Neither simultaneously depressing the shift or control key concurrent with the drag motion accomplishes this objective. any simple way to draw concentric circles each of which has a randomly chosen diameter and varying stroke width? The polar grid tool isn't relevant to this objective.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been spending way too much time unsuccessfully trying to figure this out.. I'm working in Illustrator CS6, printing some artwork on A6 cardstock and it will not center, even though it is centered on the artboard and in the media preview in the print panel. I would customize the media size, but the custom command in the dropdown list in the print panel is not available (it is grayed out). I tried customizing the media size in Page Setup and that didn't work (the printer spits out blank cards). I've tried using the A6 preset size in both the Print Panel and in Page Setup, and the artwork is still offset, or worse. I've tried printer defined settings, no luck.
The main question is how to center that artwork? Also, how can I access that custom media size command?
I'm using 2 different epson printers with the same result.
The artwork centers nicely on letter-size paper.
I can't find a way to do this
I often need to repeat an action, such as resize an object proportionally from center (using alt+shift) or rotating for example. I get same object resized or rotated in same place and maintaining it´s center.
But when i repeat the action with control or command D on second object, it does not respect it´s center, while it seems to do it from first object´s center, so it moves.
Is there a way to set the center point for repeat or duplicate?
Is there any way to uniformly expand the Artboard from the center of the artboard? I like the way my current page is setup, but I just need more border all the way around.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I simply draw a line and want to align the stroke to one side (instead of the centre) how do I do this?
1) Giving a path offset effect.
I played with this, but didn't got me any result. I mean by giving the offset different values, I didn't saw the stroke moving to one side.
2) Creating a new brush for this.
3) Something by using an invisible rectangle.
At this moment, not one method have worked for me
What I basically want is to create those 'lineal' lines in the wing below. I already made an outline of the ribs and control of alignment of strokes gives me more options and flexibility to draw this.
I have a flag and a font with an offset path and wanted the center of the font filled with the flag.. How would i do this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a word EDGE and I try to place it in the middle of the perspective grid, so the half left follow the left grid,
while the half right follow the right gird.
something like this:
Right now I use two graphics, and I was curious, whether I can use one image, place it in the center of the grid, and have it automatically fold over the left and right side. I'm working on very complex vector and I would rather not split it into half to create two independent images.
Is there a way to do it ?
Whenever I like to adjust the perspective using the drag points, the graphics won't adjust accordingly. I find myself refining the persective grid and than manually, from scratch readjusting all my artowork. Is there a way to do automatically ?
