I am planning to buy Illustrator and a MacBook air / pro, but the macs comes with a flash drive, and it is stated that Illustrator cannot be installed on flash drives.Can this really be true? It must be the way all new laptops are going.

AutoCAD 2013 installed as expected but I can not run the Flash based introduction movies.
I am a new to AutoCAD, have never used to program before and would like to switching the "preferences" (which I can't find) to a better browser like Google Chrome.
Suggestion for Autodesk: Please dump IE in favor or propper browsers. IE has never and will never work properly.
In conclusion: How can I get the Flash videos to work. Where do I register the software?
Because of the above issues, I've installed AutoCAD 2013 on my iMac and everything is running as expected. I am more of a Linux/OS X user and have limited experience with Microsoft products.
I am using AI for creating FXG to use in Flash app.
My question is, is it possible to mark objects in FXG that should not scale?
For example, if I have two rectangles Rect1 and Rect2, I want to scale only Rect1 while Rect2 stays at the same size when scaling.

Upon saving, usually there is a progress box in the middle of the screen. It appears after the save begins. Usually the box shows the progress is about half way along, and shortly, it gets to the end, then after a few moments, it eventually disappears and all is saved. However, occasionally, the toolboxes turn black and even flash during the saving process!
It's very strange. I have dual monitors on the computer; the left monitor is for the main application and the right is where I keep all the tool panels, mainly layers, appearance, glyphs, navigator/info, transparency, character/paragraph/opentype, document info/attributes, brushes, graphic styles, gradient and stroke with appearance. I have the UI set to light grey to work with.
i have just made a 3D biljart ball and i should like to use it in adobe flash proffesional but once i import it it looks like it has lost its 3D properties and that is just somewhat a plain 2D image.

i tried to realize a progress bar as a flash extension, but the flash ui with the progress bar freezes, because my time consuming process ssems to block the flash ui.
In the first step I moved the time consuming algorithm into a separated thread. At first I used a dummy time consuming algorithm to keep the tests simple and the progress bar worked fine. Then I replaced the dummy algorithm with the real algorithm, but the algorithm did not work. I could not invoke Suite functions of the Illustratok SDK. I assume that after the plugin main thread had invoked my worker thread and returned, some resources are released.
In the next step I tried to move the flash extension handling to a separate thread, but then loading the extension by the SDKPlugPlug hangs. I assume that the extension handling is an event based process. Since my new created thread has no event loop, the extension can not communicate with my thread.
My co-worker spent all day trying to export a Flash file to open and edit in Illustrator. Is this possible? She feels that it is because when she exports as .fxg into Illus if she turns the preview to outlines the art looks like vector art. Im not so sure. You cant select anything. It still has all those outer boxes aroud it like when you "Place" artwork. Is it possible to do this?

My goal is to have each country in flash as an individual movieclip.
So I have done many hours of animation in flash over the years. And what I am trying to do is import some of the characters I have created in Flash into Illustrator and convert them to PSD. This is for a print project that I am working on. The reason I want to get the images to photoshop is so I can add some effects and coloring techniques I simply can not do in Illustator or Flash.Here is the method I am using.
1) Select the vector image in Flash and Export Selection to Adobe FXG.
2) Open FXG in Illustartor
3) Export to PSD
4) Open in Photoshop and Color.
The problem I am having is the line art that was drawn with the pencil tool in Flash simply vanishes when imported to Illustartor. Also a lot of the line art that was draw with the pencil tool is gradient filled or the image I am trying to export may have multiple color Pencil Lines. So just trying to outline the images in AI does not provide the look or effect I want.
I have a problem with Illustrator CS6 on Win7 x86 on one of our users' machines. The font Arial Narrow is installed, MS Word / Framemaker pick it up and you can use it, but Illustrator and InDesign won't see the font. So my user can't use Arial Narrow as the family so can't select the font for bold/italics/underline. He can only choose narrow as a sub style of the Arial family, but Arial Narrow has been installed seperately.
The font has also been placed in the Common subfolder for adobe softwares, but after that it still won't be found.What has been tried:
Uninstall and Reinstall the fontAdd font to font folders for adobe products (both common and product specific)Clearing Windows and Adobe font caches ..All these steps have not solved our problem.
When I try to launch Illustrator I get the message "To open 'Adobe Illustrator CS6,' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" When I click "install" it goes through a downloading process but then I don't get any download (that I can find) and nothing has changed and I still can't launch Illustrator. I've repeated this process three times.
InDesign and Photoshop seem to be running fine. It's only Illustrator which is giving me this problem.
I have installed a third-party plug-in with the Adobe Extension Manager, but it does not appear in the Scripts menu. I can access it by going to Scripts > Other and navigating to the plug-in, but by default it doesn't appear in the menu. Do I have to reset Illustrator?

All the previously installed fonts show up fine. The new fonts have samples in Photoshop, Microsoft Word, etc, just not in Illustrator. Is there some way I can change this in Illustrator?

A customer specific font has been installed in Windows and shows up in Notepad, Microsoft Office 2010 and other programs including Photoshop CS6. For InDesign I had to copy it to the "Programdirectory"Fonts folder and this worked fine. Only Illustrator CS6 doesn't show this Font (a TrueType font "cust.ttf") as available when I want to format a text with it. I've searched Google and Adobe but no luck so far. Based on other articles I also renamed the "IllustratorFonts.lst file - but also to no avail...

I've tried placing them in Presets > Scripts, I've tried creating a folder under "Plug-Ins" called "Scripts" and placing them there, and several other places in an attempt to find anything that will work, but so far nothing has. I've also tried deleting the Illustrator Prefs but that didn't work.

Same goes for saving renders , no sign of mapped drives. Now somehow it's gone. I have to go to network and choose destination from there. What I have to do to see my mapped drives ? I have windows 8. I had to make extra network location to have access to that drive but still it's workaround. Why 3dsmax can't see mapped drives?

Situation: You have two hard drives - you intend to have programs reside on one and data on the other. All things being equal - one drive spins faster than the other. i.e. 7200 Rpm vs 5200 rpm vs 10,000 rpm
Question: Would you place the X3 program on the faster drive and the data on the slower drive OR visa versa. I am thinking (dangerous) the data (smart proxy files, saved projects and video files) should be on the faster drive since the "program" probably doesn't use the program drive much and uses more CPU / memory. I'm running an Intel Q6600 w/4GB of ram 1.5TB in a Raid 10 (4 750GB hard drives) that I had custom built from R-Tech Computers. The machine is fast and Photoshop runs great until I hook up my external USB hard drives.
I have 4 hard drives ranging from 500GB to 1TB. When I hook them up and run Photoshop, The system slows down to a crawl. I take them off, it runs great.
The question is, I have all my photos,in two hard drives and I want to have the LR catalog in both HDs. When I close LR, it creates the security catalog into" A" HD, then I copy this backup folder into the second hard drive"B" but when open the second HD, the photos does not reflect the changes I did in the "A" HD.
How can I do to have the same stuff in two or three different HDs??
For example, I have two HDs, one in my house (disk A), and the other one (disk B) in a friend's house (it has the same photos than the "A" HD) and use it as second security backup.
How can I copy the LR catalog, created as a backup in the disk A, and copy it to the disk B? ? Normally I copy the folder that LR has created into disk "A" when I closed LR and I paste it on disk "B". But when I connect the disk "B" and open LR with this catalog, the modifications are not there.
I want to get some new larger drives to use for my photos and videos. Placing all of my photos and videos on a single 4TB drive vs. splitting them over two 4TB drives. I think all of my photos and videos currently will take around 2.5TB. Are there any performance gains from splitting them over two drives?

I keep photos on one of the drives and videos on two of the other drives and swap out these drives with other drives that have videos on them. I also use external drives that have videos on them. I want to import videos from all of the different drives that I swap back and forth.
1. What will happen if I tag videos on the internal drives and then swap them out with other drives? Will it just show a broken link to the video until I put it back in?
I'm using Lightroom 2.6 on a Mac G5. I've got 93.36Gb of photos ( 9,000 RAW files plus their sidecar files) on a 500Gb firewire 400 drive. I'm upgraing to a 1TB firewire 800 external, and my file is (I believe) on my internal hard drive under users somewhere.
I can piggy back the new and old externals, or copy my photos to the internal and then transfer to the new drive when I connect it, but I have no way of connecting both firewire drives to the computer at the same time.
What's the most effective and easiest way to transfer my catalog and photo files from one drive to another and have Lightroom find them and sort everything out?
When I am in Lightroom all I see in the Folder Section is my internal hard drive. I have many images on my external hard drive. How do I get the external hard drives to show up along with the internal hard drive?

Preumably these files must be moved within Lightroom to preserve the links to the thumbnails?
I have multiple hard drives in my Macpro. If I import photos and videos onto the drives and then remove the drives and swap them with other drives, what will happen? Will the images and videos that were on the drive that was just removed not be found in LR, or can it cause other problems/corrupt the Library, etc.?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Lightroom 2.6 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and the browse for files or folders dialog that comes up when I need to choose location for my raw files imported as .dng does not list all hard drives of my computer - it only lists contents of my user folder in drive C:/ - thus making it impossible for me to choose any other location than those within my user folder. I attach two screenshots - 1/ Normal browse for folders dialog as it appears from within Windows explorer. 2/ Same dialog as invoked by Lightroom - with all drives missing.
