I have several .ai files that have linked files that I suddenly can not see in my layout. I checked the links and they are unbroken. Others in the office running the same Illustrator version can open and see them fine. Have I inadvertently change a view setting in my app?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm reconstructing an old document originally developed with PageMaker. I've recreated a half dozen pages hopefully with more uniform techniques. The original line art for the pages was created in AutoCad and some were scans. To bring them into InDesign some of the art is now in psd format and some of the newer art is in Illustrator AI format.
I've noticed that the pages with photoshop art print pretty quickly (about 30 seconds). The ones with Illustrator art take much longer (about 1:30 seconds). They go through a flattening process.
I print these 50 page books on demand and that additional time would add about an hour.
I guess the question is whether this is normal and to be expected or not. If it is I'll likely turn everything into raster before going into InDesign. That, however, seems like quite a bit of extra work. Going from AutoCad to Illustrator (to add stroke) then to PhotoShop to change to raster and then into InDesign seems like a pretty convoluted work flow.
Is there a way to turn off all section tags for drawings refering to all Sketch Layouts in all the Construction Document Layouts?

From what I've seen thus far it looks like I can add links but only to websites and they are only clickable in PDF mode.
Is it possible at the very least to make my clickable TOC when converting my document to a PDF? and, is it possible to make it clickable even if it is in .ai format?
Every time I open an Illustrator file, I get an error that it can't find my links and I have to re-link all of my images. Why is this happening, when I haven't moved either the linked image or the Illustrator file? Even if I save my Illustrator file, then open it right back up this happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an illustrator file which contains linked images. I want the images to link to images in a different folder on a different hard drive. They are the same images, but just in a different location.
I am thinking of temporarily changing the name of the first hard drive (which the images are currently linked to), in order to break the original image links. That way, I can re-open the illustrator file, and when it asks me to find the links, at that point I can direct illustrator towards the links on my other hard drive.
I will then save the file with the images linking to the images on the new hard drive.
At that point I will re-name the first hard drive back to it's original name.Will all of my other illustrator files loose their links if I temporarily change the name of my hard drive, and then change it back to it's original name?
(I have used this technique by changing folder names, and it has worked. But I was afraid to change the name of my Hard Drive because there are a guzillion files on it, and I can't afford for my illustrator files to lose any of their links.)
On several projects there are long lists of images linked in the Illustrator file. I need to find a way to export the names of these links to a spreadsheet for another department to reference. Is there a way to do this (in Illustrator Cs5 or CS6)?

As most should know, this has long been a feature: tweak an image file in Photoshop, save it (same file name), and Illustrator will recognize the image has been edited and ask if you want to update it automatically. Hit 'Return', as 'Okay' is the default dialog button action, and image updated: one step. Without auto-update, user must manually access link palette, select edited image link, and 'Relink' the image ('Update Link' unavailable here now as well): three-plus steps (including identifying and selecting image file after 'Relink').

myFilesHH01000-01999HH01000-HH01099HH001001.PDF
and now I need to change the file structure to this;
myFilesHHHH01000-01999HH01000-HH01099HH001001.PDF
adding the folder HH breaks the links.
What is the best way to identify the broken link and change its path with JSX?
I am working on a file that has some shapes with gaussian blurs. Everything appears fine until I save it and reopen the file to see that each of the objects with a blur has been converted to an embedded link as a raster image. Is there a setting that I need to change to preserve the vector shapes with the blur effects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a way to get the links and link statuses in Adobe Illustrator. It doesn't seem to be at all similar to InDesign DOM.
What I'd like to be able to do is check whether a file has a missing link. I have been able to trace it to a "placedItem" which is inherently a "pageItem". So is it possible to find the link status? Been going through the DOM for about a half hour now and still can't find it.

I need to create a flyer as a .pdf that will be sent via email and will likely be printed from an ink jet. The flyer will have images placed from Photoshop. Is there any reason to not layout the whole composition in AI and instead do it in PS? Is it just a matter of preference or are there strong reasons to go one way or the other?

and I have placed 2 linked visuals:

When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section:

%%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)
When I click "Edit Original" with a jpeg selected in the links panel it opens Microsoft Paint! In Windows (7) the file association is Windows Picture Viewer (NOT Paint!) and in Bridge it is associated with Photoshop CC. In InDesign we have the option of choosing which program to edit linked files with. In Illustrator we are stuck with the astounding Paint! Why?? 17 versions and this still bugs me!
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem seems to happen ins CS5 and CS6 as well. We have a complex piece of artwork for a foil blister and we use a paragraph of text that has 3 transforms applied to which effectively step and repeat the paragraph of text in a repeat pattern across the artwork. This setup very precisely as it needs to be 100% accurate for print purposes as several units are printed side by side and the repeat runs across the units. Everything is setup correctly in Illustrator and then we re-save as a PDF with 'Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities' on.
We genearally save as a PDF 1.6 but we have tried all the combinations now. The file still looks perfect in Illustrator but when the PDF is opened in Acrobat (any version) the step and repeat (transform) on the paragraph of text is now no longer in alignment on onside of the artwork but still OK on one side. No matter what we do we can't fix this problem andit's recreatable each time. Also it's not file specific as we can build a new file and it will also exhibit the problem. We're only talking about a tiny jump here - <0.2mm but this means the artwork is out of spec.
I built my resume in Photoshop and typically I've been exporting to a PDF and then handling link creation within Adobe Acrobat itself. I'm wondering if there's a way to streamline this process such that links can be created within Photoshop and exported directly into the PDF file. This would save me the hassle of recreating links in Acrobat every time I modified the resume in Photoshop.
I've read about a Rich Content PDF extension/extra that is typically located in the Extras folder. I was able to successfully locate it and have Photoshop use it, but I don't know how to get links to actually be recognized by this plugin. My original hypothesis was to use slices (designating a region as a slice and then assigning it a link), but the Rich Content PDF export option did not recognize links through slices. Is there another way to do this or another way to create links in Photoshop such that it can be exported to a PDF (either through this plugin or otherwise)?
I have a problem. I need to redesign the catalog for a certain company. Actually, it's a minor update, but the previous catalog, only available as a PDF has many clickable links inside it. When I open this PDF in CorelDRAW X5, update it and resave it, the links are gone. Is there a way to import the PDF with links, and save it also with the same links?done yesterday
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a multi page document that contains links to various large tiffs. The filesize of cdr is decent to work with and it preserves them until I publish it to pdf .
Any changes made to document after this operation will increase the document file (at the next save) like the images are embedded , not linked. However, in the links panel still show up as links, but properties of images mention their full resolution instead of a thumbnail size, and working space enhanced view show that.
I tried for test with one page and only one image and confirmed this behaviour.I couldn't find any solution to this and I keep closing the document after publishing and open it again for changes.

I've moved from CS6 to CC my font view is different when I right click on text to bring up fonts. In CS6 the font name is shown in the actual font but in CC it's just got the word 'Sample' in the font. It's driving me crazy! Can I change the view in CC?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've got CS6 and Windows 7. I have the 2D artwork packaging file for a new product and I'm trying to make a 3D view of the box. I've created the 3D version of the box with the 3D Extrude & Bevel, then am using the map art feature to map the artwork to the appropriate 6 panels of the 3D box. The front panel worked great, now am trying to do the top panel and I'm getting a weird result. This is the first time I'm trying to map art like this, so I'm not sure what the problem is. See screenshot below. The problem areas are circled in red. (The blue areas look weird as I had to crudely remove the graphics for privacy reasons.)
If you look at the left circled area, that white stripe should have straight edges from front to back, but I can't get it that way. The right circled area is a random diaganol blue stripe that shouldn't be there. The front panel is fine.
I have created a project in PSE 11- it's meant to be a booklet, and I would like to add clickable links to the project, by way of live links, as well as making parts of the project clickable. The goal is to make it a Tumblr post, and save the multiple pages as an Adobe Acrobat pdf file.
My weak Google-fu tells me that I need to use the slicing tool, but I don't think that is available in Elements?
I am trying to add links to an image and then add it to my web page...I have been trying to use the slice tool in photoshop which works great for the links but I can't seem to achieve a transparent background in the save for web...
Inside of photoshop the image is transparent and when I save for web (image) the map.png file is not created...map_01.png, map_02.png and all others are created but not the map.png file When I have saved for web (html) I have tried inserting the html into an iframe on the page and the image looks and functions correctly but there is no transparent background because it is an <iframe> and not the actual .png.
How do I maintain links and bookmarks in a PDF? I recently created a multi-page document in X5 with links and exported to PDF. All of the links worked successfully in the resultant PDF.
Yet when I imported the PDF into X6 (and X5) for editing, the links had all gone. I'll need to edit on a fairly regular basis and I don't want to re establish the links (a lot) every time.
When I publish to PDF (web setting plus include links) the links do not hold. How to I get the links to stay in the PDF document?
