i have a text saved in PNG is a text designed with an image.how can i select the outline in illustrator? in photoshop i need 3 click, open it, click rapid selection and click the image = done in illustrator what i have to do? i am capable only of open the file...
View 9 RepliesI use AutoCAD 2005, and I've made project logs which contain mtext for logging work I do each day, and tables for logging Revisions and prints and whatnot related to the project. I've noticed, especially since adding the tables to the log template, that sometimes I cannot select the mtext, but if I go to paperspace and doubleclick in a viewport, I can select it, and once I do that, and move the text and then move it back, I can go back to modelspace and select it just fine. Right now I have one particular project log dwg file that does this every time I open it, and if I save the drawing in modelspace, the next time I open it, I have the problem in modelspace, but if I save it in paperspace, it's the other way around and I can select it in modelspace. Does this have something to do with a bug in the tables? The problems seemed to have started once I implemented the tables. I've also noticed that when I layiso defpoints, I can't select anything on defpoints; I'm not sure if that's related or not.

next stage when i send to winplot and send to cutter it seems to cut numerous lines within the vinyl...What im want i just one line around the whole text following the profile of the main text.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to outline an image. In photoshop, I did find edges (save), then opened the image in illustrator and did image trace. I obtained a perfectly outlined image.I can't obtain the same results using illustrator image trace alone.I've adjusted the advance settings a few times to get the same result but with no luck. Threshhold and corner settings are ok, but I'm getting more paths and noise than I want, with the settings at low/1 respectively.I also tried the gray scale setting since the image is mostly gray, expand, etc, but no dice).

I'm looking to have the white knockout to the background color. it's a black text in the center, a (what should be) knockout outline of that black text and then another black outline outside of that.how to set it up, order and arrange the text so I can simply keep the look of the white knocking out to the shirt color.
For text i can easily use TYPE / Create Outlines
but what about Create Path Around Object or PNG with Transparancy ?
i know about using Pen Tool and create Path , but it takes much time and my final work not perfect as i want

I have a guitar pick jpeg that is a black pen line filled with white I am using for a design. I placed the pick image into Ai and now can't figure out how to change it. I just want to select the image, and transform it into just an outline of the pick, all transparent everywhere except the outline shape of the pick. Almost the same as if I had drawn the pick with the pen tool, but I don't want to have to draw it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having a weird problem with some files I'm getting from a third party. They are created in CS4, then saved to EPS v.10. I need the text in the file to remain live, but every time it gets saved to EPS 10, it gets outlined. URL....
I have been able to verify that ligatures is sometimes the culprit, but I think there's something in the way this one person is creating the files that's causing the problem. I've opened hundreds of EPS 10 files from other users that have live type. Yet when I take this one person's original AI file and down-save it, the text gets outlined.
It's a very simple file - no transparency or other red flags that I can see. At first I thought maybe it was just the font, but I have used the same font in tests, and down-saved to v.10, with no text outlining.
I have a document where the text as been coverted to paths. The document prints fine. However when I save the document as a PDF for distribtion, the text doesn't present properly. Particualry the l's. its only a few lettes but it is enought to make it look terrible.

Our company recently upgraded to the Creative Cloud, but our problem occurs with our customers who have yet to upgrade from CS5. We provide the files in PDF format, but unlike with .ai files, I can't find a way to save a PDF in CS6 making it fully compatible with CS5. It's of course possible to open the PDF in CS5, but the text gets fragmented into clusters of sometimes words, sometimes a few letters, which makes it unwieldy for customers who need to edit the original.
Is there any way I can save a PDF in CS6 so it retains the text as in the original, when opened in CS5?
Why does adding a FX (Distort - Ocean Ripple) to text (converted to outlines) or a basic shape, change it back to pixels and blocky? Why doesn't it stay as smooth bezier curves? Is this a possible bug?

I can't bold Lucida handwriting as it only has an italic option, so need to give it an outline stroke to achieve a bold letter. As soon as I give it an outline path and unite it to other shape paths the 'bold'ness disappears and it reverts to it's original size.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a capstone lab project due tomorrow for my graphic arts class and I made a HUGE mistake!!! I created an image using 20 something layers and did SAVE AS as a .xcf image (with all layers open). Part of the project was to save in different formats: .xcf (with open layers), a .png, and a .jpeg (optimized). So, I did the first save and then flattened the image to SAVE AS a .png with a different file name.
Long story short, I was tired and had way too many images open at once. When I was closing all of the images I accidentally saved the changes (flatten image) to my original .xcf (with open layers)!!!! Now, my .xcf that is supposed to have open layers only has one layer...the finished project!! I tried going to the file properties to restore a previous version, but it says that no previous versions were found! I also downloaded a norton "unerase" utility, but maybe I am not scanning properly to locate the file!?!
I have been having a problem selecting objects in Illustrator. I am only able to select boxes and type by clicking directly on the path with both the selection and direct selection tool. Normally I can select text by clicking anywhere on it. I have checked my selection preferences and have the "Object Selection by Path Only" box turned off.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a very simple logo. Basically, I created two layers: one with the letter M and the other with the letter W. I now want to place another letter over top of them and then select it so I can delete the shape of the third letter from the other two and essentially be able to see the transparent background through the third letter.
I have done this in PS CS2 no problem, but I am trying to do it in illustrator so I can resize the design for anything from a business card to a billboard if needed. Bottom line is I need a solution that wont effect me being able to resize the vecotr to crazy sizes.
In the image below, the "S" is just a white letter. I need it to be a cut out through the M and W so that whatever Background it is on the page or document shows through that S space.
All of a sudden, when I select and copy an old ad to a new page to update it, it copies without images and as plain text, all of the font selections are gone.
