I have been having a problem selecting objects in Illustrator. I am only able to select boxes and type by clicking directly on the path with both the selection and direct selection tool. Normally I can select text by clicking anywhere on it. I have checked my selection preferences and have the "Object Selection by Path Only" box turned off.
View 6 RepliesMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Why can't I adjust the scale of my text by clicking and dragging the corner boxes? Why I have the text selected, all it does it let me highlight it to change font, size, etc, OR all I can do is move it throughout the artboard. Why can I click and drag the corner box to adjust?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a very simple logo. Basically, I created two layers: one with the letter M and the other with the letter W. I now want to place another letter over top of them and then select it so I can delete the shape of the third letter from the other two and essentially be able to see the transparent background through the third letter.
I have done this in PS CS2 no problem, but I am trying to do it in illustrator so I can resize the design for anything from a business card to a billboard if needed. Bottom line is I need a solution that wont effect me being able to resize the vecotr to crazy sizes.
In the image below, the "S" is just a white letter. I need it to be a cut out through the M and W so that whatever Background it is on the page or document shows through that S space.
All of a sudden, when I select and copy an old ad to a new page to update it, it copies without images and as plain text, all of the font selections are gone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday i opened a psd file which 200 layers. Paint.net is very slow then (as all layers are flatten, pdn is missing hierarchical layers), but that is another problem.
I wanted to hide some background layers and "copy merged" a selection.
It took me 10mn to find all the backgrounds layers without this tool.
In photoshop the tool exist as a property of the "move selection" tool. Ie: you must first select the move selection tool, then select "layer" in the properties toolbar.
Any way to get that for v4 ? Will v4 be on github so we can clone and make patches ?
I'm looking for the most elegant syntax to loop through a document and select all the text frames.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a really weird problem with one of my files. When I click on the text, it changes the text to completely different words. Seems like it is corrupt somehow... see below images to see what I mean. Is there a fix? I'm on CS6 mac OS 10.8.4.

Out of curiosity I also opened up the file in text edit to see if there was anything obvious, and here's some of the code. I'm assuming this is preview text for search, but either way seems a bit fishy.

Trying to edit the text and saving it out corrups the file.
I have one large file and think it didn't save correctly or something. I've tried quitting and relaunching Photoshop but that doesn't work. Editing text in other Photoshop files works normally.
As soon as I click on any text with the type tool as though I'm going edit or style the text, the text instantly changes. Both the content and styling of the text is replaced as soon as the cursor is placed anywhere in the string of characters.
The really weird thing is the updated text matches text that appears somewhere else on the page. If I click the other text that it now matches that will also get automatically replaced by some other text on the page. And it goes on and on. It's impossible to edit or style any text unless I create new text.
I think the file has miss-arranged references to elements which only becomes apparent as I'm trying to edit.
I'm not able click and drag an object in CC and can't figure out why.

For example: I have an already animated object [a dice] as button and I have a Text object located on other part of the stage and where should appear the random number from 1 to 6.
I have tried in CreationComplete and compositionReady, and in the Click option in the button, one of these two options:

I have also tried in the dice image [button] within the symbol this [with one of the two previous codes]:

i am trying to do my online assignment for Adobe Illustrator. I am using the 3-D effect and everytime I click on the preview check box, it freezes up. Which is very frustrating, because that effect is used alot in this chapter. If it is a computer memory problem, how do I fix that?

1) If I double click on a file, it opens in Illustrator, but it does not open with my default workspace settings. If I open the file from the file menu, my preferred workspace opens.
and
2) If I have one file open, I cannot double click on a second file and have that file open in Illustrator. I just get the little spinning circle and then it stops. I can still open a second file from the file/open menu option.
We are using CS6 and running windows 7.
When I click the select tool, a brown selection type of rectangle appears in a particular area of the illustration, even though I have not clicked on the illustration yet. I assume it is some type of warning indication, but don't know what. P.S. It is draggable and scaleable - I can move it off the artboard. An example:

I have uninstalled and re-installed and it does the same thing. I have re-installed on my data drive so there is plenty of room. I have 3.5 gb memory.. nothing else open.

When some of our lisp programs get run, you can no longer double click on text to edit it in paper space. If I put text in model space, I am able to double click to edit it. Is there a variable for this?
I just verified something else, if I move the text to be outside of the View Port, I can double click to edit the text. If I try to double click to edit while inside the viewport then it switchs to model space withing the viewport.
I'm building a custom action and it would be great if I could record clicking the layer eyeball off.
Is there a menu command equivalent for turning current layer visibility off?
I have read several Pen tool tutorials but haven't found anything about this:
If I draw a path with the pen tool and later want to reactivate it, clicking the last anchro point to make the path active severs one of its control handles. Specifically the handle that is for the curve that is yet to be drawn. And after that I have to use the Convert Anchor Point tool to recreate both control handles and try to math the already existing one to its former place.
How can I fix this?
Any way to turn off the ghost text that appears when you select text that is annotative, not get rid of it just not show all of the other scales for clarity.

I follow the tutorial in the Xara Help, but cannot get the results shown. I draw the circle, compose the text, and set it to the middle Select both circle and text Arrange/Fit Text to Curve....the text appears around the lower, right side of the cirle After all this I am unable to manipulate the text (It's a piece of cake to do this in Publisher 2010, but it has some minor problems in appearance)
I am proficient in Illustrator, but this has been one of a few enigmas. Every once and a while in a file, I have noticed that after deleting a color that is definitely not in use(ie there are no strokes, fills, stray paths etc) using these colors. I have made sure of it. I will delete the color from the swatches and as a final pass I like to add used colors and sure enough that color will come back. I tried making sure it's not checked global, didn't work, some I don't even think are global colors, and in fact they are generally CMYK. I often notice that Black and C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 don't like to delete from the swatches among some other colors when you delete unused swatches. I thought perhaps they were in guides or something but it's truly unexplainable, and generally with a fresh file if all colors are deleted it'll still leave black white and gray.
Or ways to troubleshoot better other than creating a debug file and deleting lines of code as recommended in the older forums?
T Text on a new layer. Happens and I can't pinpoint it but I sometimes can't reselect the text, it just adds a new layer. I end up deleting that layer that I can't re-select. I try clicking everywhere on the text and sometimes I can't get it.
