I am making a 15x22" print of a map of Baltimore and am not sure what pt size to maket the lines separating the neighborhoods. I want to be sure the lines are visible from far away, and, since this is my first time printing something this size.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am programming an Illustrator plug-in for flexible modifying the width of stroked lines created by the Paintbrush Tool or Pencil Tool. The way of width modification should be similar to the "Width Tool".
Now I would like to have access to the painted area of the stroke lines, which I want to modify. With the Width Tool it is possible to modify the borders of the painted area very flexible. That is the same I want to do in the first step, but I do not know how to access these borders of the painted areas of stroke lines. I would like to know which Suites/functions are responsible for dealing with the painted area of stroke lines.
Every now and then, my stroke loses the ability to do digit reduction. For instance, when I try to create a 1.5 point stroke, it rounds up the line to an even "2".

In the past I though I was possible to change the stroke thickness with no document open and that worked for all the new documents yet to come. Well, it doesn't. The default stroke size is 1pt and I want it to change to f.e. 0,25pt. But how?

I'm trying to draw some text so that it has an effect like in fig. 2 of the attached picture, not fig. 1. Is it possible to make somehow? For a simple image like this I could of course manually remove the few lines, but for a more complex text it's not possible, and I can't seem to find a solution myself.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsually, when you check the 'dashed line' option on the stroke pallete, you will instantly create a dashed-line stroke on the selected path. What I don't know how to do is retaining the straight property of a dash on curve parts of the path.

In Illustrator I want to maintain the stroke settings while creating several paths with the pen tool. However, every time I start a new path, the stroke settings revert to what must be a default. E.g. I set 16pt + Variable width profile + Basic and stroke a path. When I start a new path, the settings revert to 1pt + Uniform + Basic, and I have to reset back to my original. Other art programs I've used maintain the tool settings most recently used until they are manually changed. How can I get the settings to stay through multiple uses of the pen tool?

(For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) How to change this back?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTrying to use the width tool, I ran into the following problem. I would like to have a smooth transition of the stroke width between two width points while keeping the original stroke width unchanged outside of that line segment.
There are four width points here: two end points and two in between. The original stroke width is 200. The two on the left have one side set to 100 while the two on the right have one side set to 50. I would like to eliminate the distortion of the line width occuring in the first and third line segments. The only solution that I have come up with so far is to place two additional width points very close to the two middle width points: one with a 100-unit side to the left of the second point in the picture and one with a 50-unit side to the right of the third point in the picture. Yet there will be a small distirtion in between.
I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile,while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
I know this seems to becoming at something backwards, but if I can do this it will make life easier for doing custom stripes for cars.
I open a profile image of the particular car. I create my vector stripes on the image.
Now...if I could draw a line of a known measurement on the graphic in illustrator (eg. between two doors) and then select that line (and the stripe graphic) and set the line to be a certain size (eg. 35 inches) and it would scale the rest of the stripe that would be useful.
I created a icon that I want to substitute the default square markers for in a line graph. When I apply the change, the icons are way to small. How do I adjust the size?

How do I get it so that the end of the line segment doesn't show over the black stroke of the object? If I try to put the line segment behind the object, then the object fill hides it completely.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.

In cs5 i could stroke the path based on the brush size/shape when i choose "brush" and simulate pressure to get those nice faded out lines.
In cs6 I do the same thing but the stroke size never changes to the brush size even when i make sure "brush" is selected.
Second question... I want to add some lights with Knoll Light Factory; is there a way to preview the lens flare on top of all the current layers to see what it will look like? Sometimes i'm trying to position it on top of a very specific area. I know I can change the background layer to the specific place, but getting a full preview would be great.
I've just reduced the size of a canvas from 300x300 to 200x200 but when I merge the layers I'm left with a dotted line showing the original size.

I've been using a very old version of Photoshop for the last 10 years and I'm used to using the shift key to extend a line or paint stroke. By that I mean, I use the paint tool to make a dot and then hold down the shift key and make another dot elsewhere and that creates a straight line. I just purchased CS6 and that function doesn't seem to be happening. Is this something I need to activate in a preference?
