View 3 RepliesTrying to use the width tool, I ran into the following problem. I would like to have a smooth transition of the stroke width between two width points while keeping the original stroke width unchanged outside of that line segment.
There are four width points here: two end points and two in between. The original stroke width is 200. The two on the left have one side set to 100 while the two on the right have one side set to 50. I would like to eliminate the distortion of the line width occuring in the first and third line segments. The only solution that I have come up with so far is to place two additional width points very close to the two middle width points: one with a 100-unit side to the left of the second point in the picture and one with a 50-unit side to the right of the third point in the picture. Yet there will be a small distirtion in between.

I use CS5 and have now a small arrow on my line segment tool (as shown in the picutres):
Ever since that when i click shift, it just allows me to draw vertical lines, rather than vertical or horizontal.
I'm sure this is a simple thing but it's driving me crazy. Every time I draw a line it gets erased as soon as I try to draw the next one.

Would I have to transfer the small image over to photoshop. I did try and save a 1 inch by 1 inch logo at 600 PPI, however when I saved the image it was no longer 1 inch by 1 inch. It had increased significantly in size regardless of what file format I saved the image as.

If I try to draw a square box in any size, illustator does not make it square.
For example, if I select the Rectangle Tool, click in the art space and set the rectangle to one inch by one inch, I get a box that is 1.0003 by 1.0003
Here is a screen shot of what I am getting.
This is also happening to any rectangle and circle.
Even if I hold down shift to keep the preportions lock, it still happens.
I have check and nothing is snapping or set to snap.
This is a major issue for me as I use illustator for creating dielines and those dielines need to be very accurate.
I have been using Illustrator for almost 10 years and have never run into this one. When enter a stroke weight on a line with a decimal point like .25 or 4.5 is keeps rounding the number up. For example I enter 0.75 and it makes it 1 point or I enter 5.5 and it makes it 6 point. Whether I enter the number manually or pick from the drop down (0.25, 0.5 or 0.75) it keeps rounding my strokes to even numbers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis should be simple but I cannot figure it out. I am trying to process large batches of photos with varying pixel counts, but they will all be printed at the same size in inches. I want a constant height text watermark on all of them, but since Photoshop only allows you to specify text height in "pixels," my watermarks end up at different relative sizes on each picture.
For simplicity, just consider 2 different pictures. One is 1700x2200 and the other is 2125x2750. I want to print each one at 8.5x11 with a 1/2" high watermark, via the same batch operation. Whatever pixel height I specify for the text in my watermark, it will be a different size in inches on each photo.
Is there any way to do this WITHOUT re-sampling the files as part of my batch operation? I don't like re-sampling when it's not necessary.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am programming an Illustrator plug-in for flexible modifying the width of stroked lines created by the Paintbrush Tool or Pencil Tool. The way of width modification should be similar to the "Width Tool".
Now I would like to have access to the painted area of the stroke lines, which I want to modify. With the Width Tool it is possible to modify the borders of the painted area very flexible. That is the same I want to do in the first step, but I do not know how to access these borders of the painted areas of stroke lines. I would like to know which Suites/functions are responsible for dealing with the painted area of stroke lines.
How can I draw a continuous stroked line with a fill, so that it overlaps and covers the previously drawn part of the line? I'm trying to draw some text so that it has an effect like in fig. 2 of the attached picture, not fig. 1. Is it possible to make somehow? For a simple image like this I could of course manually remove the few lines, but for a more complex text it's not possible, and I can't seem to find a solution myself.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am studying for an MSc in Geology and am doing seismic mapping. To tidy up my maps I exported them to ArcGIS so I could join various ones together and also contour the maps. Then I exported the GIS maps into illustrator so I could attempt to smooth some of the contours as they are extremely jaggedy due to the nature of the data.Is there a way to quickly smooth lines or mass delete points that make up the lines?I am asking because I have 30+ maps and each map has maybe 50lines with each line being made up of currently about 1000 points each...
If I can't find a solution I will probably end up drawing over the contours with the pen tool and just smoothing it that way, as it should be a lot faster then deleting so many points.
I am currently using Illustrator CS5 and have access to CS4.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a subdivision plat that I'm working on with a curved lot line. When I label this particular lot line, Civil 3D labels it like it's two different segments. In other words, instead of labeling the line as a 100 foot long arc with a radius of 100 feet, it labels it as a 60 foot arc and a 40 foot arc. I can't figure out how to combine the two segments.
All of the lots lines were created from polyline objects, and there was no break in the original line work (nor is there any indication of a break in this location when I select it).
