Illustrator :: CS6 Will Not Save Files - Unknown Error Has Occurred
Apr 16, 2013I am not able to save my files and illustrator gives the message 'An Unknown Error has occured'. In a previous discussion transparency is called out as the culprit however I am not using transparency in my document and have checked all the items. I have also tried copying the work into a new ai file however this also will not save. This is has happened to me about 5 times since I updated to CS6.
Update - I just closed Illustrator and lost all my work and then an Adobe update window showed up asking me to update Adobe Air. I recall an Adobe Update window appearing once before when I had problems solving. Could the Adobe update window interfere or prevent me from saving my documents?

Feb 21, 2014Illustrator won't let me save! It says "Unknown error has occured." I only have line work and text I placed from AutoCAD as a DWG file on the artboard and I was going to color the rooms in Illustrator.

May 23, 2013We've been experiencing an issue with saving illustrator files (as .ai). The error message is "unknown error occurred" when attempting to save. Things tried already:
delete preferences file
uninstall/re-install CS6
standardize all fonts to arial
save in another location (desktop, network)
save as .eps
But still same.
This happens when copying components of one ai file to another and trying to save it. Found that removing one tiny piece from a drawing allows the save.There is no text in that piece, just lines and shading.

Nov 8, 2013I have both 32- and 64-bit versions of Adobe Illustrator CS6 The error occurs only with the 64-bit version,The error occurs only when saving files containing text objects.Unchecking "Create PDF Compatible File" doesn't solve the problem. Resetting Illustrator's settings also doesn't work.
It's pretty much time taking switching between the two versions and I also have files pretty big enough that require opening in the 64 bit version.

May 20, 2009I have had numerous application errors which result in the PS CS4 shutting down unexpectedly. 1 such error message: "The exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application 0x78138a8c". It happens repeatedly when I try and create Brushes, when I open normal jpg files, when I create new file. There seems to be no direct correlation between an action and a crash. (I have worked on CS2 with nothing like this ever happening.)

Oct 24, 2013I installed Mavericks yesterday ... Am having issues with Illustrator. First it wouldn't open and had to runt he Java install, that took care of that. I am able to make new files without problem and open EPS files, but cannot open existing AI files UNLESS going to File > Open. If I double click on an AI file I get the error "The appliation can't be found"
I am not running any 3rd party plug ins.

Feb 25, 2013Been using Revit 2011 for a couple of years and never had any problems until recently. I attempted to load a component file and got an Unrecoverable Error and Revit shut down. Now, it appears that any attempt to load or open a file from inside Revit results in this same problem. I have read multiple posts and solutions and wiped/reinstalled the program. Nothing has worked. I'm running it on XP.

I've recently become aware that other people are getting an error message when opening many of my my psd files if they are on earlier versions of PS and also on PSE, (including the latest version). The message is:
This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
Three options follow: Flatten Cancel Keep Layers
When 'keep layers' is selected the file opens as normal. However, people with much earlier version (CS version 8) don't get the option to keep layers, and the layers are flattened when the document is opened.
I still have CS5 on my mac, and I find that if I take my finished file into CS5 and save it there, the customer does not get the message above, and the file behaves as it should. Those on very early version of PS can also open the files without any issues.
I've been using CS6 since it was released and have had to delve through all my files and save them in CS5. Not every file is affected and I've been unable to find a common thread.
