View 13 RepliesI'm designing a map in Illustrator CS5. Any way to merge 2 paths (roads) which have text attached, so they seamlessly blend together. I've tried using a compound path but this doesn't work with text added. I need to be able to easily change the roads direction/shape without having to use different layers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of CD designs, and often I have my text centered on the front covers. When I put the text centered, however, PSP is added an extra space to the end of text, so when I center it on the canvas the text is actually off-center to the left. When I go into edit the text, there is no space on the right of the words to delete.
With the text selected this is how it looks: The right edge of the frame should be flush with the right edge of the last 'T'.
I have no MS Paint or digital photography skills at all. I have tried, but it never turns out the way I want it to, so I come to the digital photography pros for a favor.
All I need is text added to the picture.
I would like "GA VA 2006-2007" and underneath have "22-14-8". The bottom left would be the best place,
I just added text to a graphic. How do I bold it?

I'd like to see a 3D font that could be placed on objects and extruded as a solid, so that text could be added or removed from objects as a 3D image. So that a minimum width could be assigned to the font, to allow text to be added as a raised or inlaid surface to 3D designs...
Before I describe this problem I do want to assure you I did poke around the forum and FAQ beforehand.
My problem is that I open a new creation(RGB or Bitmap) and create a text layer. When I do this I find that the cursor is EXTREMELY tiny. The text isnt even readable on size 72. I first noticed the problem yesterday when I was trying to create a new sig with an edited image I previously created. I've never had this problem before but I am still pretty new to this. Code:
I' have an image that I've created using layers. I want to add text to the picture. But the text comes up grey and there seems to be no box for selecting the text color as there is say in word or other windows programs. I can only see a choice for font and size. I can't make a color window appear to give me a choice of colors. The only thing on the left of my window is the tools panel with the 22 tools in it. I don't seem to be able to use the color picker tool because I want white text and there is no white in my photo to pick on.

I want to Merge the Montrail text layers. Why I have this Montrail thing is I'm making a logo for our school's Red Rocks trip and Montrail is giving us climbing shoes so my teacher is having me combine the two logos.
I m trying to create an intersection between two roads. See the attached jpeg. When i open the corridor properties i receive an error message which i don't understand. It seems like civil 3d has problem with the order of the regions. Also the corridor sections intersects in the area that i have place a remark "problem". I m trying to correct it manual but when i rebuilt intersection then it overlaps my manual correction

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Illustrator. I'm running CS6 on my macbook pro retina (OS X 10.8.2)
At any random point in a piece of work, new effects I add stop showing up. This can be anything from warping a shape, to re-ordering items in the appearance panel. When this happens I can toggle visibility, or even delete elements, but they still remain visible. The piece of work stays live on the art board, but stuck, despite any changes I have made showing up in the appearance menu. If I save the work, shut down Illustrator and then open it again the changes I have made appear, but my artwork freezes again after only a couple of changes. This is making working impossible.
Here you can see I've actually switched off visibility for the three elements in this graphic, and added a warp to the blue rectangle, but nothing has changed on the work area:
I've created some buttons and I've exported them as .pngs.
I'm getting an unwanted white border of margin, or padding (whatever you want to call it). how I can get rid of this?
If I try to transform and resize the png it shrinks my buton (which is at the exact correct size).
I've just started using X4 for the first time and what I'm trying to do is add text to the last frame of a gif. I got the text in and see where the colour changing tools are but for some reason even if I made everything red, the text colour still comes out completely different. It seems to be matching it to the colour scheme of the GIF itself. I just want to text to be red.
How do I get the text colour to just stay red?
i would like to fade-in a text title.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working with Layers, added text boxes to point out areas in a diagram. But, when I go to move the text to align it, the layer moves more than just that text. Why? There is a box around the entire picture to start with, and when I move the text on layer 2, it works. But when I go to layer 3 to move that text into place, it will move part of 2, or the original picture layer. Do I need to disable something?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a question for the gurus. how do i accomplish modeling two parallel roads with a median in between? in other words, say a northbound (NB) and a parallel southbound (SB) roadway, with a grass median in between them. the both roads have crown, and then eventually slope down towards the median, and at one point they meet.
I am curious to know if say for NB and SB, i have an assembly with the lanes, then shoulder, and then median area past the shoulder at x%, what subassembly should i use to accurately model the point where the NB and SB x%s meet?
*Edit:
I am not sure if i would be able to do it with only one baseline, as the roads may not always be parallel.
I need to add alert message of number of unlock items in the following script.
#target illustrator
var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var myPageItems = myDoc.pageItems;
var count = myPageItems.length;
for ( var i = count-1; i >= 0; i-- ) {if ( ! myPageItems[i].locked){ myPageItems[i].selected = true; }
{myPageItems[i].locked = false;{ myPageItems[i].selected = true;}}};
this script unlock the items, but i need the information of lock items.
Is there any way to prevent Illustrator from adding numbers to the end of exported files? It's really annoying because I end up with a bunch of extra files and only need the single exported version that I overwrite when making changes to the AI file. It's also annoying when I have an exported file linked in a Premiere or Indesign file. I was last using CS3 wich didn't have this 'feature.'
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way for the program to automatically change profile elevations of intersecting roads.
Say for example i have two intersecting roads ROAD A and ROAD B.
On my ROAD A profile at station 0+300 i have a proposed road elevation of 9.5
On my ROAD B profile at station 0+000 (intersecting point) I have the same proposed road elevation of 9.5.
Now i change my ROAD A profile at station 0+300 to 10.3
Is there anyway to allow the program to automatically change my ROAD B profile elevations to 10.3
IF NOT--
and I have to use the Annotate > Add Labels > Profile View > .......................... labels,
Is there a way for those labels to link across the profiles such that , On my ROAD A profile at station 0+300 i put the label at the elevation of 9.5
On my ROAD B profile at station 0+000 (intersecting point) I have the same label at the elevation of 9.5
Now i change my ROAD A profile at station 0+300 to elevation of 10.3 then is there a way for it to automatically raise the ROAD B elevation label
So that I would know, without having to manually check through, that there is a discrepancy between those intersecting roads. So the real list of my query is whether I can link my alignments, profiles or annotation labels.
I am trying to get a white layer with see through writing which reveals the background image underneath. (Almost like I have put a stencil over a photograph). I have discovered this is called a clipping mask.
However, I am having difficulty using a clipping mask over multiple text layers. It seems to only do it to one layer directly beneath. I do not want to merge the text layers as I want to mess about with the design a fair bit.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI know this was possible in CS3 but since CS4 I think it has been deleted. I'm Struggling with the following:
- Let's say I have 5 elements that are NOT overlapping. I know that it was in possible in CS3 to "add" these together so that you'd have 1 element that was completely editable. You could for instance put an object on top of the elements > use the pathfinder to delete a part, and all previous 5 elements would be edited (because now it was 1 element).
- If I try this by doing this the same way as I used to in CS5, this doesn't work anymore. No matter how hard I try to join the non overlapping elements it doesn't work in CS5. If I do the exact same thing as described above I'll be left with the same 5 elements and the deletion will only happen in 1 element.
Was this something that was altered in CS4? And if so, how do I do it now?
Usually when I'm working with files from other artists, I do select all -> merge and select all -> make live paint group and this usually reduces the paths / file size quite a bit (I have to merge because it combines all the layers into one flat shape rather one on top of another). However, I have some dinosaur illustrations like the following:
When I do a merge on these illustrations, it increases the file size by 5 times! I tried doing paths -> simplify, but even if I slightly decrease the %, the drawing gets skewed.
Why this file might be blowing up when I merge it and what I can do to fix it? These illustration really isn't anymore complicated than other illustrations I've been doing, and while they've been reducing in size when I merged, this one hasn't.
I have created a layout in Illustrator (CS6) and seperated the individual images I require into named layers. My intention is to export as a Photoshop file (keeping all the layers), then using 'Script' in Photoshop to 'Export layers to files..', so I can get automatically save all the elements in the layout as individual transparent png.
When I export the files as Photoshop a warning comings up saying that 'some layer have been merged' and then when I open this file in Photoshop, all but a couple of text layers have been merged into 1 layer. I think it's something to do with the transparencies set in Illustrator but don't know how to resove this.
If it can't be resolve in the method I am using at present, my only other option is to switch off all but 1 layer in Illustrator and export this layer as a png, but as I have many elements to the layout (including on and off states) and this is just one layout page of many, this manual way of export the files will take me forever!
I can stop these layers from merger into one layer when exported to Photoshop, then any way I can automatic export the layers I have set up in Illustrator, as transparent pngs in a simular way I can in Photoshop.
i have 2 square shapes on my artborad. each square shape has its own gradient fill. i would like to merge these 2 shapes to form a single shape. not a groupe of shapes, but a single, flattened (compounded?) object.
the gradient of the first square includes a zero-alpha. the second image is the two shapes simply layered, but i want to basically flatten them together to form one shape.
what steps are involved in merging these shapes to form one shape so that their gradients are unaffected by merging with the other?
I'm having trouble merging paths. I'm combining the multiple paths with arrows to make the 3D effect (which is on all of them obviously) flow as one instead of on top of eachother. When I use the compound path command it reverses all my arrows and I have no way of changing them back without releasing the compound path (which puts them back to their original state of being on top of eachother)
