Illustrator :: File Size Blowing Up When Merging
Jun 19, 2013
Usually when I'm working with files from other artists, I do select all -> merge and select all -> make live paint group and this usually reduces the paths / file size quite a bit (I have to merge because it combines all the layers into one flat shape rather one on top of another). However, I have some dinosaur illustrations like the following:
When I do a merge on these illustrations, it increases the file size by 5 times! I tried doing paths -> simplify, but even if I slightly decrease the %, the drawing gets skewed.
Why this file might be blowing up when I merge it and what I can do to fix it? These illustration really isn't anymore complicated than other illustrations I've been doing, and while they've been reducing in size when I merged, this one hasn't.

Ok so what happens is I bring up a new clean page. I put the text cursor on it and type something in and usually 10pt is quite small and 50pt is big. I've done something, perhaps a keyboard shortcut or something, where the text is three times as big as it should be.
10pt looks like 20pt and 50pt looks like 80pt. It's as if I've zoomed in but I haven't. On a 600X800 page the 10pt is still about 20-30pt.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, whenever I open up a new page it defaults to greyscale instead of RGB like usual. Might this have to do with the text problem?

merging mesh and group from other file (i do this in every new project) i see file size growing (120MB to 700 Mb for example!!)Now, if i try to "save selected" some object,
- from the scene1 in which i've merged object2
or
- from the scene2 that i have merged in scene1
the file saved have the same big size, and if i delete from scene 1, merged object and resave it, the filesize is just a bit less of 700..

am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

So, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.
Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.
What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?
So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?
I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.

I designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?

I mod this old game and the textures are low res, they are alright on characters but the weapons get all fuzzed and horrible, it looks like nothing has changed from when they were low res.
i am doubling the size here. possibly tripling if the game will allow it. but they don't seem to really make a difference even when i try to smooth them out or sharpen them up. I use High pass and maximum, and then put them both on soft light over the original texture, before merging them and using unsharp mask.
How to make them look better when i'm doubling the size. using JUST photoshop, i can't afford all the fancy plugins at the moment.
here's a visual example for you:
Low Res:
ScreenShot8.bmp
High Res:
ScreenShot1.bmp
there's virtually no change. fix this little problem Vbulletin has with.bmp files?

Working with Inventor 2012: I have a rather large assembly (over 3000 parts) that was worked on by an outside engineering firm and includes several different Levels of Detail & Views under Representations. When they originally Pack 'n Go-ed the whole assembly and related .idw's over to us, all the .idw's seemed to show every view correctly without errors.
However, I've now went into the assembly and made several modifications to the overall master assembly and a few sub-assemblies within it (adding/deleting a few parts, nothing major). Now when I try to open a few of the master assembly .idw files, all the section & detail views have become full model views, losing their "cutaway" views. See the attached before & after pictures.
I've went back in to each .iam and made sure that the level's of detail & Views match the way the file was originally given to us but I can't seem to get the cutaway views back again.

I am using trial of Adobe Illustrator CS5. When ever I export file (RGB) to PNG or JPG format, there is size difference of 1px in width or hight or both. But when I save that file with Save for Web & Devices option, then there is no such issue.
I have tested with so many files.I didn't faced such problem with Illustrator 4.

I was just provided a pdf for a large. The customer however forgot to build in a bleed. I can see from the imbeded info the file was made in Illustrator cs5. Knowing this I opened the pdf Ill cs5. When i attempt to do this I get an error that there is a linked image missing. So I figured I would place the whole pdf in a new illustrator file. When I fo this I can see all the illustrator layers from the original file. Including the image that supposedly wasn't linked.
Once I have the place pdf in illustrator I can edit the original illustrator elements just fine. The only problem is that now when I try to save this file as a pdf again it's file size grows about ten times, going from just short of 5 mbs to 45 or more mbs. This larger size keeps me from emailing it and unfortunitly the banner printer I was sending it off too doesn't use dropbox.
How I can add a bleed to this pdf without making the file unresonibly large? I have already tried turning off the all optional inclusions on the pdf such as allow Illustrator editablity.

I have an ai file. It is exported from PRo-E, so there are lot of nodes in that ai file which makes the file size larger. Is there any way to simplify the ai file without disturbing the profile of the entities in ai file. I tried Simplify options. It worked a little bit. But i want any other option to simplify the ai file in order to reduce the file size in a larger extent.

Many of our AI-files have a tendency to 'bloat' to sizes above 60 or 100 MB, even though they relatively simple, all things considered.
The obvious answer would be to save with PDF-compability, but since we need to link the AI-files in InDesign-documents, that's not an option. We have cleaned the brushes, the symbols etc. and all pictures are linked, not embedded.
Are there any other ways to reduce the file-size?

Recently I upgraded fo Illustrator CS6 and found something that is going to screw up my working with clients. The problem is that the .ai and .eps files are having really huge size (67MB on an average). I have used about 6 images (jpeg at 1024x768, less than 1MB each) made them as pattern in the swatches panel and applied on various shapes. The .ai file size is 109MB :O :O :O . Another ridiculous thing is that an art that contains only 3 lines of text plus some circles and squares (3 circles, 2 squares) filled with solid color is around 68MB.
how to reduce the file size without compromising on the pattern quality.

If I'm merging objects together into one Max file, how do I retain the material assignments/designations for the objects that I am bringing into the scene?
I thought they would automatically get imported as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case. This is somewhat big deal for me because I'm working with one model which is dozens and dozens of planes that are overlapping to produce the effect of a large bush. I'm using three different but fundamentally similar material patterns so I can't just drop the material onto the set as I'd have to manually assign each of the three materials to their respective planes...however that's pretty much impossible because like I said, I have dozens, possibly close to 100 planes that are overlapping and interwoven to create the illusion of a bush.
Without the materials, the model just looks like a pile of planes, with the materials and the alpha channel settings, it looks like a bush...
Again, basically, I'm trying to figure out how to merge a set of objects into a Max file, and retain the material assignments as they were in the objects original file.
When I go to render, I can force Max to locate the texture files by manually designating a new path, however, I would like to be able to see the textures in the view port as it's hard to get a sense of what I'm looking at as I start to add more and more objects (and half of them are plane based, alpha channel foliage- so without the textures, all I see in the viewport is a bunch of planes and that is really not useful when I'm trying to compose a scene).

Using Illustrator CS5.5, I'm trying to open and use floor plan PDFs originally created from AutoCAD, Revit, etc. The files contain detailed vector artwork, but the file sizes and RAM/CPU usage I'm seeing don't seem to correspond to the information in the file. I open a 2MB floor plan PDF and when I save as Illustrator, it becomes 20MB. It takes 2GB of RAM to open that file.
I've checked for masks and transparencies, but can't figure out what's making these so difficult to work with. Are there attributes I'm not checking that could be slowing things down?

Is my illustrator running slow? I have an i7 3770K, 16gb ram, gtx 660i 2g, h100i, ax1200i and maximus formula v. I'm running dual 24" 1920x1080 monitors. File size is 800x600 pixals with 5 layers and 100+ paths in each layer. Is the program running slow because the file is too big or is there a problem with illustrator?

I have two designs for labels that have to be approved by the government for type size regulations. The current size of the illustrator files are 133.3 MB and 24.7 MB I need to provide these at no larger than 450 kb AND the type must be readable and measurable for approval.
I have tried everything I can think of to provide the artwork small enough yet still retaining enough resolution to not make the type fuzzy and not able to be measured for size. I've tried making the files from within illustrator, I've tried taking everything into Photoshop to make the JPEGS with no luck. They want either a gif, jpeg or tiff no larger than 450 kb that is viewable at the print size of the label with no loss of resolution...

I have a svg file that doesn't look right when it's opened in Illustrator:
The letter 'k' is a lot smaller for some reason, when in fact all the elements have the same font size.
This is what it looks like in Inkscape, and also what I expect it to look like:
Here is the svg code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" version="1.1" width="3000" height="3000" viewBox="0 0 3000 3000" xml:space="preserve">
<g transform="translate(1289.38 698.88) scale(10.75 10.75)">
<text font-family="'Arial'" font-size="100" font-weight="normal" transform="translate(-117.5 99)">
[Code] ......
The svg looks right to me, and not sure why this happens in Illustrator...but I'm not an expert on svgs and may be wrong.

I saved without pfd compatible function already, but the file size is sill very large. I did not face the same problem working with CS5 before, is that a bug for CS6?

I have a illustration in .iso(isodraw) format. I'm exporting it to ai and opening in adobe illustrator for removing unwanted lines(becasuse the .iso is exported from Pro-E). Then Im reopening it in Isodraw to apply some line thickness. Because i want the file to be completed in isodrwa and export it to .cgm.
My target is to reduce the file size to very minimal. The entities in the drawing has lot of nodes. Im using simplify option in AI to reduce the nodes in turn the file size reduces.
What are all the other ways to reduce the file size without distrubing the profile of the illustration. Otherwise redrawing of the entire illustration will reduce the file size??
In a nutshell Input is .iso.......Output is .cgm. By using isodraw and adobe illustrator software which will be the best possible way to reduce the file size.

I've created an image file in Illustrator and exported it as a .png file. The dimensions are 1000x200 but when I export it the file size changes and becomes bigger. I therefore have to change the file size in Fireworks making sure that the quality is kept as Photoshop does not do it for me. Previously when I exported the files the backgrounds appeared transparent after saving but maybe I've changed a setting by accident that has changed this. I'm selecting the 'Save as' and Flattened png option at 32bit in FW.
