I need the frame of the image below as a stroke style (or at least I prefer that above having to copy-paste the elements of the sides 100 times along a frame in my design )
The thing is: it contains gradients. How do I get the frame to a stroke style so I can easily use it in Illustrator?
I just dicovered the gradient stroke feature in illustrator CS6, the problem now is I can't get out of it. I am simply trying to apply a gradient within a shape, and it keeps only applying it to the stroke. If I try to add a gradient to a path that doesn't have a stroke, it will automaticallly add a stroke.

As soon as I select the drawn brush stroke and I try playing around with the gradient, the whole stroke goes black…This is driving me nuts. And the weird thing the gradient can be applied only to the basic brush type…not the one that I need unfortunately. I’m not sure why that is…I can only add colour to the brush stroke but no gradient sadly. Is there something I’m doing wrong or a setting which prevents this from happening?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems that all these gradients-in-stroke options are only available for strokes that are aligned to the center of the path. I have tried to set inside and outside strokes, but i cannot for the life of me activate the right two options (even though they look like i can click on them).

Updated Illustrator to CC and now my apply gradient to stroke is acting funny (also does it with apply along stroke). First i can't get it to show up unless I find a number it likes (start out with 1 pt, don't see a stoke so increase size 1 pt at a time up to 11 to see it) now the corners have gotten strange, They seem to be missing small patches. You can see in the image I am not doing anything fancy, it's type and then just to make sure it wasn't a font problem I tried just a rectangle. It seems to be worst with corner set to round joint.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to apply an along stroke gradient to a stroke made with an artistic watercolor brush that comes with the program. Whenever I try to do this the gradient comes out greyscale. In the gradient window it will show as the colors I've chosen (ex. white -> orange), but when I draw the stroke it comes out greyscale regardless. If I draw the stroke with a different brush, like a regular round brush, it works perfectly fine. It seems to be doing this with all "artistic" brushes.
Is there a link there between artistic brushes and greyscale? Am I just doing something very wrong?
I'm running the trail version, does it have something to do with that?
Why is it that when I apply a gradient to a stroke I cannot use the gradient tool to change the direction or position of the gradient? I can make a fill and offset the path and then move that gradient (which is a very similar effect), but gradient tool does not work on a stroke. I am just baffled by the idea that I can put a gradient on a stroke but then only change it by using the gradient palette to change the angle and /or height /width...and that honestly dosen't work well.

I created text, added an offset path to it with a gradient, and a deep gray color fill on top, achieving the gradient stroke. However, I'm not exactly sure what color the shirt itself will be, other than deep gray to black. And I didn't want the deep gray/black fill in my text to appear and look awkward on the shirt. Unless that is something I shouldn't be considered about.
To be safe, how would you create transparent text with a gradient stroke? I'm using Illustrator CS5.
It seems that gradient stroke only works as 'within stroke' for calligraphic brushes... and it's frustrating. I'm using CS6.

I have several brush styles that I routinely distort with custom stroke profiles. Unfortunetly, every time I change the brush style, the profile is lost. Can I prevent this from happening?

I know I can do this by selecting one object and then choosing select all. But I want to include this as part of a batch action, so I need to be able to specify the selection in such a way that it can be completely automated. If I have to select one of the objects for each file, it defeats the purpose of the batch action.

I also want to automatically remove all objects who have a white fill (white background) and no stroke.
Problem is a created pdf-file of an html-file of a table that must be cleaned up. There are a lot of stray points, empty text frames, unpainted objects, white "cells" that are also be painted in the pdf.
I made 3 circles one inside the other. each has a stroke applied. I created 2 triangles and joined them to make an hour glass shape. I placed the hour glass over the circles.
Now i am trying to use the hour glass to cut the 3 circles below. It ends up looking like a spider web. In these photos the antennae is 2 shapes and on top of the layers that hold what i have described.
I'm having trouble with a logo I've created in an svg. file. I seem to have to finalized, but when I save it as a pdf. to take it to the printers I see parts of the logo suddenly have no stroke or stroke has been added in other parts.
I don't seem to have any hidden layers I don't think. I'm not sure if there is a setting to change in the window that gives you all the options to choose from when you're saving something as a pdf. Or is there a setting I should be activating when finalizing this logo as an svg that prevents such problems. I'm pretty new to illustrator, before this I was using inkscape which I got the feel of until i decided to go pro with illustrator.
Everytime I set the fill/stroke color of objects in a file to 75, 68,67, 90 it resets it to 0, 0, 0, 100. It isn't consistent though... some objects accept the color.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn illustrator cs6, I have a complex shaped with a gradient fill. when I go to expand there is an option that says Expand Gradient and you select the amount of objects. so I selected 6 objects, and the expand tool did what I expected, my object got divided into 6 objects with fill colors relative to the gradient.
so I hit undo, and I moved a stop on my gradient slightly to affect the results a bit, and now it wont expand the same way. my gradient stays a gradient. I tried drawing new shapes with gradients and the gradient wont expand.

I've expaned the stroked lines, so they are now a group of objects in a heart shape. I need to fade them from 100% red to 100% transparent. I don't know how to do this with a group of items.

I need to apply a single gradient acros a number of live paint objects but am finding it annoyingly hard to find a way. I know that normally, to apply a gradient across multiple objects, you would need to make them all into one compound path but does this apply to live paint groups in any way?? Can what i need to achieve actually be done?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been a Photoshop hobbyist. Now I own a printing business. This has forced me into the world of Illustrator for our printing and cutting machines. Although I am very comfortable with PS, Illustrator. One of the key things is making "Cut lines" in Illustrator to send to the cutting program. Now here is my dillema, all of my images I have made are in Photoshop. To make these cut lines I have to stroke the image. When I bring a picture into Illustrator I can not get it to stroke that picture. It just strokes the box around it, or unless I draw a circle or shape around it and stroke that shape. Please refer to the picture I have attached. The first one is a decal that we initially made. The second is the image that I want to stroke for cut lines do I can just have that as a decal without the white circle.
