I have created this watercolor blob shape with a tutorial and I was wondering if it would be possible to use that watercolor blob to fill a shape (let's say a circle). How can I go about doing that? I've attempted using the make pattern function in order to create a fill pattern that way, but it's just not working out for me.
View 3 RepliesI am having some trouble with a file in Illustrator CS6. Within a layer, when I add a fill to an object, the fill doesn't block out the object paths beneath. For instance, say I have a square object overlapping a circle object in Layer 1. The square object is above the circle in the layer. When I add a fill to the square, the circle stroke still shows through the square even though the overlapped part should be blocked out by the fill. The square is set to normal visibility, and I have made sure that there are no duplicate paths that would account for what I am seeing. (I.e., it's not a case where there's a second identical circle path that is on top of the square, so that it remains visible in spite of the fill.)
Other details:
- I'm mainly working with a white fill, but the problem is the same with fills of any color
- When there's a fill color in the circle path as well, the circle's fill color *is* blocked out—just not its stroke.
- I have restarted Illustrator and restarted my computer and these have not changed anything.
- There are other layers within the same document where the normal layering rules work.
- I tried copy/pasting some of the problem objects into a new document, and in the new document, the fill works properly.
- If I move the problem objects to another layer, then the fill works as it should. But as I'm dealing with a number of paths, it doesn't make sense to create a layer for each to solve the problem.
I can't tell if it's a matter of working in too large or complex a file.
So, I have ensured that Object Selection by Path Only is unchecked in the selection and anchor display prefs. However, I still can't select an object by fill (clicking within the object). I have to go to the object edge and select the path.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have come across a rather disturbing bug in Illustrator when copying an object with a color fill from one document to another.
Both documents have the same color space. Lets look at this example to see the condition. Make two documents with the same color space.
Make an object and assign a color to it. Lets say Pantone 201C and set it to a CMYK build - not a true spot color. Now make another document with the exact same Pantone 201C color - but specify it as a true spot color. Now copy and paste from one document to the next. As you shall see, you will get a dialog box warning you to add or discard the color to the recieving document as expected. This is a good behavior that tells the user that you have the same color builds but assigned different values.
Now what happens if we assign one document a book color value of PMS 201C and the other document a "spot" color build of PMS 201C. So we now have two PMS colors in two documents with different values assigned to them. Drag and drop or copy and paste an object from one document to the next. You shall now see that the recieving document now has two objects with the same PMS name, but two different color builds (and visual color differences).
What should happen in this situation is the user be prompted with a dialog box to either merge the two similar PMS spot color builds or add - like what you see when copying an object with the same color buld name, but has a different value assigned between the two.
Some of our designers are just going ape over this condition and I hope this bug could be addressed in a .01 release.
I have a vector map of the United States that I am currently trying to shade in for the election. I would like to achieve an effect similar to that shown here with the lines going through the red and blue states - [URL] How would I go about doing that? I'm a novice at Illustrator and only know the basics of filling with solid colors. I have CS6 if that makes a difference.

I got two paths, one for the inner outline, one for the outer. I want this to be one object, looking just like that, where red is the fill, and black is the outline. Simple as that. [URL] - this is what i want.
So, the inner "circle" is not filled with anything, beacause my object is this "frame" outside. But since I have two seperate paths, I'm filling the outer path with colour, and I get:
[URL] the outer filling is red, the outside is transparent, which is good, but the inside is red because the inner path has no filling.
Right, so next I fill the inner path with white and it looks almost good: [URL]
But the inside is not transparent, it's an "illusion" and everything will be great on a white background, but that's not the case.
I want to convert these to paths into one object to behave exactly like I showed in the first image. Red is the fill, black is the outline. And I plan to use gradient mesh heavily on that shape, so that has to work to.
Bad quality, just doing some quick previews on Photoshop.
Is it possible on illustrator or any other programs you know of?
I've tried using the live paint bucket but it won't color in the sections the way I want.
It is a very complex sketch and it's going to take forever if I try to trace it all with vectors.
I just need to be able to have the glow or shadow around the object, but no fill or stroke at all.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have simple a 3D bottle shape created from about 16 points and I am trying to map a gif image on to it usning CS5. No matter what I have done (work from a new document, etc.) I always get the error message. I also receive this error when I attempt to map a jpg image on to the same shape. I have attempted this on three different Windows 7 machines running CS5 with the same result. When I try it with CS6 the program closes with a catastrophic error and no message. I do not receive this error using the default symbols. The gif and jpg images are imported and imbedded into the document and then moved to the symbols library.

In the end the letters will all be the light blue color that "Kuhns" is right now, I'm just using the different colors to explain my problem. I want the pink part of the "C" to be in front of the "K", but I want the black part of the "C" to be behind the "K", giving the illusion that the "C" is passing through the "K" (this will only be visible cause of the drop shadows on both letters, since they wil both be the same color) Is there a way to do this?
I got this effect in Photoshop, but I need to do it with vectors because the size of the image that has to be uploaded to my website is so small that you lose all detail if its a bitmap (52 pixels x 103 pixels) In addition to the effect explained above I am trying to get a bevel effect. In Photoshop it works and is easy to do but in illustrator the settings are all different and anything I enter looks totally different.
The settings that I'm using in Photoshop are: Style: inner bevel, technique: smooth,depth: 1%, direction: up, size 10 px, soften 0 px, angle:,120 degrees, altitude: 30 degrees, highlight mode: screen, Opacity: 75%, shadow mode: multiply, Opacity:75%. How do I get this same effect in illustrator?
I'm using CS5. When I click on an object within a group containing only that object, appearance tap shows the group's appearance. I can't select the object when the group only has one object. So if I want to modify the object, I have to ungroup or add additional object into the group.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.

And if i try to fill the object, it fills everything. And yes, i double check to make sure i am closing the object. After i get done drawing the shape, i can right-click with the pen tool and open the "Fill Path..." option, and tell it to fill it, and it will. But i want it to fill in when i am done drawing each shape. Is there anything that i can do to make this happen.

The line goes transparent with the object's fill when a linear transparency is applied, but remains opaque with a graduated one. I understand that I could turn the outline into an object and then apply the transparency but if I have to edit the object later, I would have to repeat the process.

I just upgraded to X5 the other day and started working with it. All seemed pretty normal until I drew a rectangle with a hairline and no fill. I typed in some text and went to click off of it to start a separate line of text only to find out when clicking inside this shape, and any other shape I made, it would select the shape.

As you see the shape is a text/font and it's filled with diamonds (it's not simply following a path). If it's not handmade I assume the automatism works like that: there is only 1 diamond = the object, and the object gets duplicated through the entire shape and resized so it fits.
It appears Adobe Illustrator cannot do this automatically, see: [URL] ... (there's another example in the first post), can Corel Draw? I don't have Corel Draw. I am just looking for a program capable of doing it automatically.
My corel x5 opens with object properties are set with x no fill and on opening a new document and creating a shape, it has no fill.
My boss opens corel x5 and his object properties are set with x no fill but on opening a new document his properties change and a blue color shows in his fill, and of course when he creates a shape it is filled with this blue color.
Yes, he can just change the properties to x no fill each time he opens a new document but i wondered if we can change it and have it set at x no fill as the default ? I have tried everything I can think of but it seems to want to keep this blue color as the default.
