Jul 14, 2013I am having some trouble with a file in Illustrator CS6. Within a layer, when I add a fill to an object, the fill doesn't block out the object paths beneath. For instance, say I have a square object overlapping a circle object in Layer 1. The square object is above the circle in the layer. When I add a fill to the square, the circle stroke still shows through the square even though the overlapped part should be blocked out by the fill. The square is set to normal visibility, and I have made sure that there are no duplicate paths that would account for what I am seeing. (I.e., it's not a case where there's a second identical circle path that is on top of the square, so that it remains visible in spite of the fill.)
Other details:
- I'm mainly working with a white fill, but the problem is the same with fills of any color
- When there's a fill color in the circle path as well, the circle's fill color *is* blocked out—just not its stroke.
- I have restarted Illustrator and restarted my computer and these have not changed anything.
- There are other layers within the same document where the normal layering rules work.
- I tried copy/pasting some of the problem objects into a new document, and in the new document, the fill works properly.
- If I move the problem objects to another layer, then the fill works as it should. But as I'm dealing with a number of paths, it doesn't make sense to create a layer for each to solve the problem.
I can't tell if it's a matter of working in too large or complex a file.

Oct 2, 2012Is there a way by which i can create an elliptical shaped radial fill into any object in coreldraw x6? Currently coreldraw has similar fill tools like in adobe illustrator. Both support linear and radial fills, but adobe illustrator has a way by which the circular radial fill can be squeezed, and be given more of an elliptical radial fill shape.Cann we have some way by which we can squeeze the radial gradient fill into more of an elliptical shape in coreldraw? That fucntion greatly supports more natural looking radial fills into objects. Can it be possibly done without using mesh tools? i am attaching an adobe illustrator screenshot to point out what i am asking for.

May 23, 2012I have come across a rather disturbing bug in Illustrator when copying an object with a color fill from one document to another.
Both documents have the same color space. Lets look at this example to see the condition. Make two documents with the same color space.
Make an object and assign a color to it. Lets say Pantone 201C and set it to a CMYK build - not a true spot color. Now make another document with the exact same Pantone 201C color - but specify it as a true spot color. Now copy and paste from one document to the next. As you shall see, you will get a dialog box warning you to add or discard the color to the recieving document as expected. This is a good behavior that tells the user that you have the same color builds but assigned different values.
Now what happens if we assign one document a book color value of PMS 201C and the other document a "spot" color build of PMS 201C. So we now have two PMS colors in two documents with different values assigned to them. Drag and drop or copy and paste an object from one document to the next. You shall now see that the recieving document now has two objects with the same PMS name, but two different color builds (and visual color differences).
What should happen in this situation is the user be prompted with a dialog box to either merge the two similar PMS spot color builds or add - like what you see when copying an object with the same color buld name, but has a different value assigned between the two.
Some of our designers are just going ape over this condition and I hope this bug could be addressed in a .01 release.

Jan 20, 2013I'm having problems getting what I want on Illustrator CS6. This is the shape that I'm working on: [URL]
I got two paths, one for the inner outline, one for the outer. I want this to be one object, looking just like that, where red is the fill, and black is the outline. Simple as that. [URL] - this is what i want.
So, the inner "circle" is not filled with anything, beacause my object is this "frame" outside. But since I have two seperate paths, I'm filling the outer path with colour, and I get:
[URL] the outer filling is red, the outside is transparent, which is good, but the inside is red because the inner path has no filling.
Right, so next I fill the inner path with white and it looks almost good: [URL]
But the inside is not transparent, it's an "illusion" and everything will be great on a white background, but that's not the case.
I want to convert these to paths into one object to behave exactly like I showed in the first image. Red is the fill, black is the outline. And I plan to use gradient mesh heavily on that shape, so that has to work to.
Bad quality, just doing some quick previews on Photoshop.

Illustrator :: Create Randomized Fill From Set Of Images
Jul 24, 2013I have a set of images that are all different, but tile nicely together. I would like to create a pattern (or similar) that I can use to fill an area using those images randomly selected. That is, they should all be aligned in a grid, but each tile of the grid should be chosen at random from one of the images. The purpose of this is to have a tiling that doesn't repeat, a la [URL] and, more generally, [URL]
Here are a few images from a set as an example of what I would like to randomly tile:
Of course I could place them manually, but I may need to fill an area with thousands of these, and even if I did place them by hand, it wouldn't be very flexible as far as reshaping/resizing the tiled area, etc.

Illustrator :: Quick Way To Create Gradient From Selected Fill Color?
Dec 14, 2012I create gradients all the time and i'm wondering if there's a quick way to create a gradient based on the current selected object's fill color. For example: I have selected a box with a fill color of BLUE. I go to the gradient panel and see that what the gradient will be if I click on it (that is usally based on a default gradient WHITE to BLACK, or it comes from the most recent gradiented object I touched). So I click on it and the gradient is activated with the stops being not BLUE. What i want is... if i select a box with a BLUE fill and click on gradient - it will create a gradient with both stops being the same BLUE as the fill color. This would be very convenient because instead of clicking on each stop, shift-eyedropping the the blue color from a duplicated box, it would instantly start with the blue-blue gradient for me to tweak (in the case below for a button i would make the higher stop lighter and lower stop darker).
It's somewhat useful to select an object with a gradient to "copy" that gradient, select a new object, click on the gradient panel and have this new object take on that exact gradient. But most of the time i'm not copying gradients but i'm creating new ones, and it makes more sense for me to create a gradient derived from the fill color.

Nov 11, 2012I need to automatically create all the possible pattern combinations with 6 shapes and 6 colors.
I have an Excell file with assigned color combinations (values from 1 to 6) in the rows, and the shape name (A to F) in the columns. Column 7 is a string containin the color combination names (i.d. 123456, 123345 etc...) so that I can output each combination with the color/numbers in the name.
I'd like Illustrator to pick every row and assign the contained colors to each shape of the column and to export a .png with the name from column 7 content.
Just simple as that! But to me it sounds pretty hard!
Is there a script that makes it already posted somewhere? - i couldn't find any - or something simliar to start coding from?

Nov 26, 2012I often have complex vector objects which contain paths and I want to create a path around the object.
I have tried Offset Path, but this command also offset the interior of the object. I have also tried Effect>Path>Offset Path, but the original path that I selected disappears and is replaced by the new offset path. I want to keep the original path and have an offset around it. I am a long time AI CS3 user.
My problem is that I create engravings of images and I want my machine to cut an outline around the engraving, the outline being X pts bigger than the engraving.

It is called "Kids of the King" and I have an eps of a crown and I want to hang the crown off the K in the word King. Feb 17, 2013I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.

Illustrator :: Auto Switch Between Stroke Fill And Fill
Nov 20, 2012I spend 12 hours a day in illustrator and some functionality seems to simplistic and ultimately annoying.I'm using Windows 7 64bit. Adobe Illustrator CS6
1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.
Illustrator :: Outer Glow On Text?
Feb 5, 2014I am using Illustrator CS5. I am trying to put an outer glow on text that I have done the 'create outlines' to. My settings are Normal color is white opacity is 90% and blur is 10mm. I hit OK and nothing shows up. If I change the color I use then I get the glow. The thing is I need the white glow. Can I not use white or am I missing something else?
