Illustrator :: How To Draw Inside View Of A Torus
Sep 18, 2012I have been trying to get this effect with the blend tool and many different circles/elipses. I come close but think there must be an easier way to achieve this effect.

View 2 RepliesI really enjoy this new draw inside feature in Illustrator. But, I find that it does not always work. It seems to be grayed out sometimes. For example, I have drawn a shape with my Wacom tablet using a blush. I then converted it to a shape instead of keeping it a stroke by expanding it. But it will not allow me to now draw inside of it, even though it is a shape.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI made a drawing of a stone floor excavation and I used 'draw inside' to delimit the excavation borders as below:
and this is what it looks like with edit contents selected:
I also wanted to carry on drawing in 'Live paint' mode to 'colour in' sections (the above is just a small section of a much larger drawing), but because 'draw inside' creates a clipping mask, this object is now incompatible with the 'Live paint' paradigm! So I thought I would 'expand appearance' to continue and this is what I get:
My question is, is there a way for me to successfully translate a 'draw inside' object to a 'Live paint group'? The above objects are just simple shapes with a single fill & stroke.
I created a AI tool plugin, when use the tool, I hope press mouse left key and drag in document view, AI will draw a rectangle, when mouse up, the rectangle disappears, just like ordinary select tool. So I wrote a class to implement AIAnnotation, during mouse drag, just let the annotation been invalidated. but I see nothing displayed. In the draw funtion I just use DefineClipStart() and then draw a rectangle using AIAnnotation drawer, at last call DefineClipEnd(). After mouse up call ClearClip().

My problem is that, i can only draw in the top view, but when i change the view, in the viewcube to front, left, and draw a circle or a polygon, only appears a thin line.
Before when i changue the view to another face, i can draw circles or any form. I think is something related to the UCS., and the Z axis

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some strange reason when I got to work this morning I was unable to view items as I draw. I can see lines as I draw once I specify the first point with ortho on or off, but I can't see shapes (dimensions, circles, rectangles, ellipse, or box) while I draw. Once I select the second point the object does appear but a setting has changed and I can't figure out how to get it back to normal.

The only problem that I have is that the automated fill hatch that I'm using between my existing and finish profiles is showing up behind the grid lines. Unfortunately, we use "lines overwrite" as a standard, so I can't just switch to "lines merge". Any way or a setting that would allow me to move the draw order of the fill hatch above the grid lines?

The problem seems to happen ins CS5 and CS6 as well. We have a complex piece of artwork for a foil blister and we use a paragraph of text that has 3 transforms applied to which effectively step and repeat the paragraph of text in a repeat pattern across the artwork. This setup very precisely as it needs to be 100% accurate for print purposes as several units are printed side by side and the repeat runs across the units. Everything is setup correctly in Illustrator and then we re-save as a PDF with 'Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities' on.
We genearally save as a PDF 1.6 but we have tried all the combinations now. The file still looks perfect in Illustrator but when the PDF is opened in Acrobat (any version) the step and repeat (transform) on the paragraph of text is now no longer in alignment on onside of the artwork but still OK on one side. No matter what we do we can't fix this problem andit's recreatable each time. Also it's not file specific as we can build a new file and it will also exhibit the problem. We're only talking about a tiny jump here - <0.2mm but this means the artwork is out of spec.

I'm trying to do some comic-booky style text with some half tone "dots" inside the text. I've got my text, I've got my dots, but I'm having hard time getting them in the text. I've tried using "Paint Inside" and pasting them in, but then I lose the stroke and can't get it to stroke the text the way I want. I've tried a clipping mask, but that doesn't seem to work quite right either.

Im sure I am missing something incredibly simple. I tried to create anchor points along the outline and use the pen tool to connection the anchor points but doing so would delete the anchor points. Each scale will be different colors and shape and they need to all be snug together.
