CorelDRAW X6 :: How To Draw Line From In Front To Behind

Oct 14, 2013

How can I (or is it not possible) to have a line start in front but end up behind.  Example, a thick line (that will look like a tube when done, i hope lol)  starts out in the front.... travels off the side of the object then goes behind it.

essentially starts as the topmost(front) object, but ends as the bottom most (back) object.

Paint.NET :: Create Normal Maps?

Oct 25, 2013

I've been using Blender a lot recently, and, not wanting to front the money to buy a Normal Map generation program or (oh dear) use GIMP of all things, I decided to try creating a Normal Map in Paint.NET.

What is a Normal Map, you ask? Normal Maps are images that are used in conjunction with a texture to give the texture false 'depth', allowing, say, light to shine onto the bricks in a texture while not getting into the cracks between, or making light come from a specific side.

The original texture:

The normal map:

The result:

Not the best, as you can clearly see.

How could I make improvements? Is this even practical?

3ds Max :: Hidden Line Style Doesn't Display Texture Maps In Viewport

Apr 9, 2011

It appears various people are posting things that are posted in the Readme. For Nitrous these are:

• To prevent issues with Nitrous, ensure you have the most up‐to‐date system drivers. For specific details, see the sections about 3ds Max 2012 / 3ds Max Design 2012 found at URL....
• Applying Unwrap UVW after painting in 2D with Viewport Canvas and painting on top of the Unwrap UVW can sometimes cause 2D paint to fail.
Workaround: If this occurs, apply an Edit Poly modifier on top of the Unwrap UVW modifier.
• Civil View parameters can cause a program error when modifying surface parameters.
• Object Color display will show the object’s material color when set to object color.
Workaround: Enable Use Environment Background and Display Background in the Viewport Background settings (Alt+B).
• Locking the computer can cause the viewports to stop responding in some cases.
Workaround: If this occurs, restart the program.
• Mirrored or negatively scaled objects might display face edges incorrectly.
• The Soft selection Shade Face Toggle does not always properly display the shaded faces.
• MassFX constraints can cause Dummy objects not to display in Realistic mode.
• Body Objects display tessellated/triangulated edges instead of the proper Body curves.
• Back faces display as transparent.
• Hidden Line style does not display texture maps in the viewport.
• Tone Mapper used with a Skylight set to use the mr Physical Sky environment will display a black background when enabled.
• Enable Gamma/LUT Correction does not work on stylized viewports.
• Very large textures (10K x 10K) can cause a program error. Workaround: You can control texture sizes with MAXScript:
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetTextureSizeLimit 512 true
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetBackgroundTextureSizeLimit 1024 true

Or by modifying the following keys in 3dsmax.ini:

ViewportTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1
ViewportTextureSizeLimit=512
ViewportBackgroundTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1

You need to restart 3ds Max after making these changes.-Eric

Photoshop :: How To Create Clean Bump Maps

Jul 14, 2012

I'm trying to create a bump map for use in 3D rendering (3ds Max). This is the diffuse map i've created:

Problem is, no matter how much i fuss around with exposure, curves, hight pass filter, this is all i'm getting:

As you can see it is very "jagged" and looks terrible when rendered. I tried to clean it, but despeckle doesn't do it. I need something clean looking, like this one:

What is the proper way of creating this kind of bump map?

Photoshop :: How To Create Height Maps To Simulate Water?

Jul 23, 2007

I'm trying to simulate water in a community game I am building. I need to create a good number of frames to test one method, but I don't know how to go about it. Since these would be height (bump) maps, color is really not necessary. Basically, I need to create frame by frame to simulate water. The game engine will actually paste them together to form the animation.

The problem is I just don't know how I can go about creating the ripples frame by frame. I'd probably like to try to make 50 frames or so. I know about the ripple filters, but how would I use them to create a series of frames?

Illustrator :: How To Create A Smooth Line

Mar 21, 2013

having an issue lining up letters to create a smooth line.

Using Myriad Pro text. The letters in question are 'n' and 'h' - both lowercase. Also working in CS6.

Hopefully these pictures will explain the issue:

When viewed actual size (100x)

When viewed zoomed (400x)

So my question is: is there a way to align them perfectly? or a is this known to be impossible in illustrator? Is there a workaround?

VideoStudio :: How To Create Ultra High Resolution Maps For Movie

Mar 24, 2013

I have for a long time struggled with obtaining hi resolution maps to include in my movies of trips I have done.

I have searched the internet for images of such maps for download and even used screen shots when using Google Earth.

I always wanted a higher resolution so that I could ZOOM in without the image becoming too fuzzy due to the fact that I was ending with an image of only (say) 512 x 288.

I am also a fan of FSX (M/S Flight Simulator) and recently taught myself how to create photo-realistic scenery which uses the TILES from Google Earth to create extra large (in pixels) images of parts of the world.

Today I realised that I could use the same to create images for maps to use in movies (I recently created an image around 5200 x 3000 pixels - the only limit to image size is how much memory you have and so using a 64bit processor and system works a lot.

It is named sBuilderX and it is available from [URL]....There is documentation within the zip file HOWEVER to create the image files for hires maps you will need to search for and download file make_photo-real_ground_textures_in_fs_x.zip which is available as a free download at [URL]...

You may need to join the web site (FREE) to enable the download.

Within sBuilderX you can choose to use Google Earth or or Microsoft Live Virtual Earth, terrain or streets. Also note that the image files are BGL files only however you can change those to JPG if required.

Hope this may have useful for few people who like to include hires maps (which they can use zoom without loosing sharpness) in their movies.

Illustrator :: How To Create Diagonal Variable Line Pattern In CS6

Sep 18, 2013

I'm on the brink of insanity with creating my diagonal line pattern. I've tried everything I can think of but the pattern is an absolute mess! I want to create a diagonal line pattern but I want the lines not to be uniform. Basically I've made a group of 3 lines and then one separate line on its own, then to repeat this as the picture below. I've used the distribute function so the distances between the lines is identical everywhere. I've then rotated the whole thing exactly 45 degrees and aligned the lines to fit the bounding box in the "make pattern" mode as shown. Yet the resulting pattern is just a mess of overlap ugliness. All I want is for the pattern to literally look as it does in the image on the left, how to sucessfully do this in CS6?

InDesign :: How To Create Artwork For Stickers To Cover Front And Side Of A Freezer

Feb 13, 2014

I am trying to create the artwork for stickers to cover the front and side of a freezer.  I have created the front panel which consists of a block of colour along the top and bottom (with logo in top panel) and then an illlustration in the middle. Now, I want the blocks of colour and illustration to carry on seamlessly to either side to cover the 2 side panels (which are the same height but different width from the central one).  Should I create in 3 separate documents and how do I make sure that I follow the illustration at exactly the point where it finishes at either side of the central panel? I haven't been using InDesign very long and I cant work it out.

Illustrator :: Create Wavy Line With Consistent Wave Regardless Of Anchor Point Spacing?

Jan 10, 2013

The above image shows my problem. All have the same zig zag effect setting, but due to inconsistent anchor point spacing there is inconsistent waviness. Is there a way to make a wavy line that is not a distortion based on anchor point distances? I'd like all my wavy lines to look nice and consistent like this:

The only reason they're so consistent is the absolute setting has been used but these lines are all straight and have only 2 anchor points, start and finish, hence the wave is consistent. It's harder when the lines are curvy and have a different number and spacing of anchor points.

Illustrator :: Minus Front Won't Work Over Pie Chart

Oct 16, 2012

I use minus front all the time... well, I'm trying to make a pie chart with just the outside (see example). The logical way to do this to me is the make the pie chart, put an ellipse over everything and "minus front" it using the pathfinder tool. Well, I did this, and even though "minus front" is an available option--I can even click it--nothing happens when I click it. Even when I isolate each wedge of the pie chart, I cannot get any part of it to clip using "minus front."

Illustrator :: Using Minus Front For Stamp Format?

Jan 20, 2013

Our project this time around is create a stamp.

I've been attempting to create a cut- out border using the Minus Front tool, within the Pathinder window, in order to cut small circles out of the edge of a rectangle, giving it that perforated, stamp-edge look to its sides. Unfortunately, everytime I try to use the Minus Front option to cut them away from the rectangle, I end up making all of the circles disappear, except for the one that was originally selected, and I simply cannot make the Minus Front happen the way I'm looking for.

What I have, with my circles drawn out and properly spaced, looks like this:

So, I take the regular selection tool, hold down Shift, and select them all, being extra careful not to click on the rectangle itself:

And select the Minus Front option, only to be left with:

Illustrator :: Object Distorts When Using Minus Front?

Mar 28, 2013

I am creating some icons with numbers on. I need them to be on a transparent background. I have created the main shape and I simple what to cut out the number that I have put in the middle so it will appear the same colour as the background. I have successfully done this with some of the icons by using the following process:

Create the Number with the text tool > Create Outline > Select Object and main Shape > Use Minus Front Path Finder Tool.

This was all going really well until I got to 4. When I minus the number object the shape distorts so the upright column of the 4 becomes wide then the original text version. The change is too much to ignore. The same problem happens with 10, 11 and 12. The problem appears to be with the upright columns but strangely is not a problem with the 1.

It looks like the path anchors are snaping to the grid I have no the Artboards. The scale of the distortion depends on the distance from the nearest gridline. I have tried turn off snap to grid and the grid itself but I still get the same result.
