Illustrator :: How To Combine Intersecting Lines

Sep 5, 2013

It also includes some editted type that intersects with more editted type.  I really to need to combine them to a single line without the intersection of the half "x" and the top serif of the "g".  I included a project file.

PS: I had attempted to use the Pathfinder Unite command, with no success. URL....

AutoCAD .NET :: Getting Intersecting Point Coordinate Of Two Polylines (lines)

Jul 12, 2012

I wonder if there is a way to get an intersecting point coordinate of two polylines(lines) programmatically.

For example, like in the below sample picture, I need to get coordinates of the points in the red cycles.

Is there any method that I can easily use?

Could I get a sample code snippet that computes the coordinates? (in C# & ObjectARX 2010 if possible?)

I've looked up "Through the Interface" and this disscussion group. couldn't find any useful yet.

Photoshop :: Enlarge Image Of Multiple Intersecting Low Resolution Contour Lines While Avoiding Pixelation

Feb 28, 2012

Problem: How to enlarge (100 times) image of multiple intersecting low resolution contour lines wile avoiding pixelation?

Simple answer: It can't be done.

Second thoughts: Well, under some circumstances it can be done... sort of. For example if lines are orthogonal to begin with then simple re-sample to nearest neighbor algorithm will do fine. If lines are simple enough, then tracing them with pen tool and recreating the original lines at higher resolution by stroking the paths with a brush will do also. Also if original lines are smooth and thick enough then some re-sampling, blurring and leveling can work (anisotropic diffusion filter may work) but will produce smoothing artifacts at corners.

From what I can see the problem boils down to creatively converting the original lines to vectors (paths / shapes) and avoiding the whole messiness of raster anti-aliasing. But here we face additional problems: Adobe trace engine is not smart enough to recognize geometric shapes, intersecting lines, straight edges, orthogonal lines and mathematical curves - just try to trace a font and you will end up with a baggy monster. Additionally, it appears that in Photoshop center-line trace is not possible and you are limited to outlines.

Xara :: Combine 2 Lines Together?

Aug 1, 2013

I've not used Xara in ages and can't remember how (or even if it's possible) to join two lines together. I was using the freehand tool with trace mode enabled to roughlty trace around an object in a jpeg image so I zoomed in on the object in the image I wanted to trace to get better precision. This meant the image was larger than my monitor and I had to trace a bit, press space bar, pan a bit, press space bar to get back to freehand tool, move over end of line to get little '+' sign to continue drawing existing line etc. But on one of the times I must have not got the '+' so was actually drawing a new line and not a continuation of the existing - hence need to get these 2 to join together.

Illustrator :: How To Keep Intersecting Area Of Path

May 11, 2012

I've been looking high and low for this and I can't seem to find an answer.  I have two paths, some text and a line going through the text.  I want to be able to keep the part of the line that intersects with the text, and leave the text intact.  All of the "Pathfinder" modes seem to either not keep the intersecting part, or delete the rest of the text also.  Is there something I'm missing?

Illustrator :: Adding / Merging Non-intersecting Elements

May 29, 2013

I know this was possible in CS3 but since CS4 I think it has been deleted. I'm Struggling with the following:

- Let's say I have 5 elements that are NOT overlapping. I know that it was in possible in CS3 to "add" these together so that you'd have 1 element that was completely editable. You could for instance put an object on top of the elements > use the pathfinder to delete a part, and all previous 5 elements would be edited (because now it was 1 element).

- If I try this by doing this the same way as I used to in CS5, this doesn't work anymore. No matter how hard I try to join the non overlapping elements it doesn't work in CS5. If I do the exact same thing as described above I'll be left with the same 5 elements and the deletion will only happen in 1 element.

Was this something that was altered in CS4? And if so, how do I do it now?

CorelDRAW X5 :: Combine Shape Into Single Object Created By 3 Hexagons - Reducing Lines

Feb 10, 2012

I have a shape created by three hexagons and they are abutted along edges. I would like to combine them into a single object and in doing so reduce the lines so that the abutted lines become one line. the reason is that currently they are processed twice along each abutted line by my laser.

I can use combine but this still leaves them as discrete editable shapes in node editor, so clearly the double lines are still there.

If I use weld I lose the lines.

Photoshop :: Combine With Illustrator And Bring Art?

Oct 26, 2013

Yes i could open illustrator and bring art in photoshop. But that's very annoying there are things that i like about photoshop and there are that i like about illustrator so my opinion is to make a new version that have both this way it won't offend people who dont like what i like.

Photoshop:
-line tool is bad.
-Lacks much of the basic vector tools, which most are available in illustrator. (line width change, pen pressure dependent, smooth)
-choosing color is much easier than illustrator. More sensible
-You can more easily draw gradients on shapes.

Illustrator:
-make lines that are trully art of work.
-merge, combine seperate shapes just by overlaying them.

Basically, most tools in PS are great but it lacks a lot in vector area. I also like transform tool. I want all capabilities of illustrator on top of photoshop's but with some improvements at illustrator side. So i don't want adobe to bring bad things about illustrator in photoshop and break it.

Illustrator :: How To Combine Paths That Are Not Overlapping

Dec 11, 2013

So I'm working with type, and I want to place a very thick outline around the type it's self.Creating a thick outline unfortuantely doesn't just work, as it aligns it over the text strokes themselves.

Corel has an option to place the outline behind the object (see below)...but alas, illustrator does not... they have the align outside option (far less effective).I want this style without having to duplicate the text, and placing one with an outline behind it:

So when I convert the text to outlines, and apply the outside aligned stroke I get an overlap from the other charactersis there a way to combine objects that aren't overlapping into a single object, so when I align the outline around the text I don't get the above problem, or is there a way to place an outline behind an object without duplicating the object and adding a thick outline?

Illustrator :: Combine 2 Shapes While Preserving Individual Colors?

Jun 13, 2013

I want to be able to apply vector textures [for t-shirts for example] by knocking the texture shape out of the original shape. Now, say I have a logo with several layers, or a bunch of shapes together, and I want to apply ONE texture across the entire thing (as a knockout). What is the best way to go about this.

And as my question asks, how can I combine two objects into one shape without making them one color? Using the pathfinder of course. Aka, while still maintaining individual colors.

Illustrator :: How To Combine Two Paths Into One Object - Fill And Gradient Mesh

Jan 20, 2013

I'm having problems getting what I want on Illustrator CS6. This is the shape that I'm working on: [URL]

I got two paths, one for the inner outline, one for the outer. I want this to be one object, looking just like that, where red is the fill, and black is the outline. Simple as that. [URL] - this is what i want.

So, the inner "circle" is not filled with anything, beacause my object is this "frame" outside. But since I have two seperate paths, I'm filling the outer path with colour, and I get:

[URL] the outer filling is red, the outside is transparent, which is good, but the inside is red because the inner path has no filling.

Right, so next I fill the inner path with white and it looks almost good: [URL]

But the inside is not transparent, it's an "illusion" and everything will be great on a white background, but that's not the case.

I want to convert these to paths into one object to behave exactly like I showed in the first image. Red is the fill, black is the outline. And I plan to use gradient mesh heavily on that shape, so that has to work to.

Bad quality, just doing some quick previews on Photoshop.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Intersecting GIS Parcel Data With An Alignment ROW

Jul 28, 2011

I am a beginner with AutoCad software, and I am currently using Civil 3D/Map 3D 2009.I imported a shp. file containing property information (owner, area, address, etc), and also imported an alignment row as a sdf. file. The row is a closed polygon.

My goal is to intersect these two types of data so that I end up with information on the number of properties affected by the row.

Is civil 3d 2009 capable of doing this? If so, how? I found a youtube video on using the 'Offset Alignment' command with Civil 3D 2010, however, is not the same for 2009.

AutoCAD .NET :: How To Test For Existence Of Self Intersecting 2D Polylines

Apr 8, 2011

Im trying to write a routine in VB.net based on Fenton's examples from 'Zero to 3D in 60 Minutes'. the routine uses a filter set to select all 2D polylines in a document then a test is needed for each polyline to establish whether it is a loop, which can then be extruded into a solid or it is a non loop, where the operation will need to be an extruded surface, or if the polyline is a non-loop.

So far my code will pick up every 2D polyline and try and extrude it, but i need to catch the non-looped entities to handle them with an extrude surface method or if self-intersecting polylines, to either drop them and not cause an exception or process them in another way.

What entity attributes or methods should I use to perform testing to establish this loop and non-loop existance of the polylines to achieve this. I work with both C# and VB.net.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Self-Intersecting Curves For Extrusion

Oct 31, 2013

I have been working on this project for awhile, trying to get it to extrude.  The top drawing of the shape is when I created it, still as lines and arcs.  The bottom pices are what I have broken it into and joined as polylines for extrusion.  The top most piece of these is the one I have been working with, with no solution found.  The 3 smallest of these pieces do extrude, but I need all of them to extrude as they are all different heights.

Once this extrusion problem is solved, the rest is just unioning it together and to the rest of my project.  I have tried exploding them, overkilling them and joining them again, I have tried the boundary method I have found on forums, nothing is working.  I have gone through with a fine tooth comb on the top most section and made sure there wasn't anything extra.  I have tried using pedit on it, and many of the commands say you can't do this on a closed polyline.  If its a closed polyline, why won't it extrude?  I could find anywhere where it was "Self intersecting curves" like the error says when I try to extrude it.
