I have put an effect on a path: stylise > outer glow. The pass is partly over a bitmap. The part of the path that's not over the bitmap has a normal glow, but the part of the path that is over the bitmap has a glow so weak , it's almost invisible. check the following link for a picture that shows the problem: [URL]

My settings are Normal color is white opacity is 90% and blur is 10mm. I hit OK and nothing shows up. If I change the color I use then I get the glow. The thing is I need the white glow. I've hit some kind of hotkey that turns raster effects off or something, but I dont even know where to start looking. I've used glows in the past and its always a bit wonky but now it just wont do anything.
I've been using spot colors, but have tried it without to no effect, and I run windows 8. I want to apply it to the compound shape hammer time, I thought maybe it was not working because of the compound shape so I tried getting rid of my inside shapes, but its not really changing.
I did just notice that there is a weird haze around the top hammer time on this image, but ONLY if you turn your head and look at the monitor from a strange angle can you really see it. So it might just be that I screwed up my glow settings here.
I'm trying to get the glow to be very strong for about half an inch and the fade out.
Since upgrading the AI CC (17.0.0), when applying an outer glow effect to objects, the effect sometimes expands its appearance involuntarily after saving and closing the file. The outcome is similar to selecting "expand appearance" from the Object menu.
When the saved file is reopened, the outer glow effect has become is its own object, grouped with the original shape. You can no longer adjust the effect in the Appearance panel.
I keep trying to apply the same drop shadow to warped text, but AI automatically makes the text glow instead of having the drop shadow. I have tried retyping the text, copying the text from another file, and expanding the appearance befor using the warp and to no avail-- it always turns my drop shadow into a glow.

Is there a way to achieve the same distress effect with transparency with FILL ? pattern fill maybe? eg can i save in some format this bitmap to use it maybe as a pattern in pattern fill and retain transparency ?

I even deleted everything else from my file except the colored background that takes up 100% of the canvas and is positioned at 0 X & Y... but my 1920px wide file still exports as a 1921px wide bitmap with an empty pixel on the left.

Next I have another screenshot, of exactly the same dimensions, showing the same window - but showing that window in a different state.
Both screenshots are bitmaps in my document, both appear in the Bitmap Gallery.
I'm not sure if something changed in recent versions of Xara, or I have forgotten the drag+key combination, but how can I drag the second bitmap onto a copy of the first bitmap-filled shape so that the SAME part of the bitmap is shown?
Using different combinations of SHIFT and CTRL I seem to be able to replace all instances of the first bitmap with the second: It is scary that a shape with a bitmap fill offscreen or on another page can be changed unwittingly!
I've converted a bitmap which contains a pixelated banner in to a vector image. Whilst the output is almost there, some of the edges of the "pixels" are not at right angles and therefore the "pixel" is not a regular rectangle. I have converted all the anchors to corners, however this made some of the "pixels" in to trapezium shapes instead of right angled rectangles. There are too many pixels to modify to do this manually. Is there a way to "Select All" -> "Make all corners 90 degrees" type functionality in Illustrator CS6?

I used to copy vectors from illustrator to softwares like Axure, with cmd+c and cmd+v. It worked pretty well until CC.
Illustrator CC only copies vectors as SVG objects. So when you're in Axure, it copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object !! I understand the need for such a thing in HTML (even if I doubt that it will be often used), but I didn't find any turnaround to be able to copy this vector inside Axure, which is, in my opinion, the biggest use of the copy feature from illustrator to any other software (like Word for example, which also copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object)....
Is there a way to copy the bitmap object instead of the SVG code ?

I'm created a photo of an alien boy being beamed down to someone's house in a cone of bright white light from a flying saucer, and I tried to use the "layer style" to create the glowing light effect in this cone of bright light - but somehow I'm not getting the "glow" effect that I got before. This version of BPT-Pro has not been released to general public-you cna only get it now if you email and ask. I now have a file FULL of emails back and forth with it's creator, trying to get it to even open in Illustrator 6. I'm working in Windows 7. They keep asking for screen shots to prove that I have the correct version of their plug-in installed. When I run a scan to find a way to open the AIP file-the scan shows that I need Illustrator 5 to open the file. Not 6. But they won't listen and say they don't understand. I think they have a problem with their software but won't admit it. People that I know who are running a Mac say they had problems too and finally got it to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to CS6 (3 months ago) I am having crashes all the time with actions.
I have tried to remake the actions, reinstall Illustrator, disable font embedding, nothing works. I have posted the crash to Adobe many times but no fix, obviously.
Seems to be the saving that crashes Illustrator.
I have an illustration that I'd like to turn into a complex dot-to-dot. It has about 1,500 anchor points.
Option 1. I first investigated to see if there was a way to simply select all anchor points, and convert them into dots... removing the line segments.
Option 2. If I could break up all the line segments at once, I could then apply a pattern brush to them that has one color for the line and a different color for the end point, and then select the color for the line and delete all that is in that color, leaving only the end points. That would work, but I can't seem to find any cutting tool that allows me to select all anchor points at once and cutting them. The scissors only lets you cut one at a time. The slice tool and all the plug ins I've looked at don't seem to do the job.
Option 3. The illustration is one continuous line. I tried to apply a pattern brush to it that has a black dot assigned to the corner segments... but, as we all know, those corner segments get distorted unless the angle is 90 degrees. I don't think this will work.
Option 4. I saw a tutorial that just selects the line and assigns a dotted line to the whole line, then expand it, and delete all the 'in-between' points... that seems very time consuming. It would be quicker I think to just use the brush tool, create a new layer, and manually go to each of the anchor points of the illustration and add the dots manually. I'm trying to avoid that.
I have 96 of these illustrations to do, so it would save me TONS of time.
I'm interested in how to get that "glow" that I see often in portraits. Is this a type of blur? Here are two examples of what I am speaking of. The second photo is a lingere photo in case you would prefer not to view it. The first is a headshot.
