View 14 RepliesI have some negative space I created(black area, see first image) that I want to fill with type, not just a simple fill.
Basically I want to create the negative space from a bunch of small minus signs(-) that need to line up as they go across. If I type on each path one at a time as the text doesn't line up that way. This needs to be one continuous path. (see second image)
Unfortunately if I add them together, it creates a compound path, which you cannot type on, unless I am mistaken? So I need them to be a path, not a compound object.
i'd like to 'write' texts on paper with plotter's pen. i cannot use "Type>Create Outline" because i just want a single-line writing look. is there any way to achive that without me having to vector draw the whole text manually?

Is there a quick way to reduce the paths to a single path
Or is it necessary to delete each leaf's secondary path manually
Is there something I should be doing differently when auto tracing.
I have lot of various fonts and various size of font used in a particular illustration. Can i able to know all the fonts and its size used in a single shot. Instead of going and checking one by one.

To create this symbol you type the Letter M, change the font to our companys symbol text and the following characters then follow. However when editing the text it is recognized as a single character. I have changed the text to outlines, however it still changes every letter when I change the color. I have went into isolation mode and it still changes every color.
Let's say you just have a simple black line in Gimp. You then use the color select tool to select it, and you plan on then converting that Selection into a single line Path.
From:
Into:
You select the line, but the Selection tool actually travels a loop around the line. So, when you turn that Selection into a Path, you do not have a single line, but you instead have a loop.
So my question is this: is there any mechanism for making your Selection in GIMP just a single line so that it can then be converted into a Path?
Originally, I was trying to achieve this in Inkscape (and started a thread about it in the Inkscape forum). However, it appears that, although other Vector Art programs can achieve this, Inkscape cannot. So I was thinking that I could instead use Paths in GIMP instead, but this is not possible because of the nature of Selections, as far as I can tell.
Here's an attempt to illustrate this request:
Is there any way to create a single line stick type font in inventor. Everything comes in as a box type which is not ideal for selecting geomety once imported into cam software for machining/engraving. The model text will be extruded/embossed, but it it possible to get single line text in a dwg or idw that will import into cam software. It would be nice to be able to import the text from a inventor dwg,idw to a different level in mastercam to save time from having to redraw all the text in the cam software.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter opening a file from another designer, this Chinese font has taken over my "omens – regular" font file. Anytime I use it, it converts to this font and each time I need to change a font weight, I must do it manually. As you can imagine, I use our company font all day so this slows me down quite a bit. Have you heard of this? It seems like some sort of font virus. I've researched removing it, yet can't seem to find the original font file to get rid of, which is even weirder."
We tried moving the font family to the trash, emptying the trash, rebooting the machine, and re-adding the font family and it still is happening.
I am facing some really small, but really bugging problems...
1) I have Photoshop CS and the new fonts that i installed on my win xp fonts folder in control panel, simply wont show up in my photoshop. can someone figure out the reason why and how do i fix it?
2) While defining paths, when you right click to "stroke path", the option (Stroke path) simply remains inactive no matter what! Heres how i actually go about it.. i had made the dotted brush already. So what i did was.. Code:
In illustrator, is there a way to reduce anchors points in a segment path without altering the path?
Is there a better and more efficient way to reduce anchors points than using the pen-minus tool?
Is there a way to specify a given system font that should be substituted for a given missing font? For example, the document I'm working with contains CourierStd and CourierStd-Bold which are not installed on my system. I would like to set Illustrator so that any time a document that contains these fonts is opened, Courier New and Courier New Bold are substituted automatically.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI accidentally converted a path to a text path. I searched the forum for how to convert it back to a regular path. The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got two paths. They don't intersect, exactly, a straight path ends at a curved path, but I need the end of the straight path to be curved, to make it look like the two meet perfectly. The two gray paths (a single path, then path->offset for the second) are the outside of a shield shape. The two black lines (paths) just surround text, but currently they overlap the gray paths.

Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.
I created text on a curved path using the pen tool and the the type on a path tool. However, there are portions of the text that I want to taper. For example, my text begins horizontally, continues to the right, and gradually curves downward. As the text curves downward I would like it to taper smoothly into a narrower and narrower text.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an effect of small text following the outline of very large bold block text (see picture). The idea I had was to first create the 'ME' in very large font as text. Then convert that text to an object / path using "Object -> Flatten Transparency... -> "Convert all text to outline"". Then, select that path and use the "Type along path" tool.
However, when I use that process, the resulting path is a compound path that therefore the Type Along Path tool doesn't work. Any pointers on how to achieve this? The image below I just used the pencil to trace the letters (quick and dirty) but the result is choppy, etc.

I am working on a logo which has the word "E-Commerce" in it. I am using a font that works quite well for it but the dash is way too long, it's in fact longer than an m dash and the font doesn't have anything else.
Short of modifying the font file or turning it into outlines, is there a way I can just make that one character shorter? I seem to remember that in earlier versions of Illustrator you could set the font width but all I can see in the character pane in CS6 is kerning and tracking. I don't want to use the transform tool because it would stretch all the text inside the box.
I would like to know how to change the colour of a single layered, single coloured gradient (foreground to transparent) image. There is nothing more to it than that other than I don't want to use the hue/saturation adjustment as it's hard to get a specific colour.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI created a clothing price tag design (consisting of some vector artwork, text, and a raster image as a background), and now i'm attempting to create a grid layout of the tags for print (20 tags on a letter-size page i can print using a desktop printer and cut apart manually).
Sounds simple enough, right? Just duplicate the artwork 20 times. Easy.
But here's the catch: 20 copies of the artwork (i.e. 20 copies of every point, line, object, and image) makes for a freaking huge file, too big for the printer to handle. It gets acceptably smaller if i save it as a PDF without preserving Illustrator editing capabilities, but then that defeats the purpose; i need to be able to change the prices at will.
Now, it would seem to make the most sense to save the individual tag design as its own AI file (let's call it 'tag-design.ai'), then simply Place tag-design.ai into a new file as a link, and duplicate it 20 times to create the print layout. Theoretically, i would only need to edit the artwork itself once (to change the price, change a color, etc.), and the changes would be automatically applied to my layout file. However, this is apparently too much to ask: each time the linked artwork is copied, it creates a new, separate link. To further frustrate things, when i edit the artwork file, i then have to update all 20 links manually, meaning that 20 different times, i get an Open File dialog, and have to select tag-design.ai 20 separate times. In the end, it's an exercise in extreme redundancy, and the file size of the layout isn't made any smaller.
Is there something i'm overlooking, or is there really no better, more efficient solution than just making 20 copies of everything and ending up with a file size of 80-90mb?
In illustrator i design some artwork and now the total layers are about several hundreads. so now i'm about to combine all those artowrk layers in one layer, so that it will be a nice clean file with text layers that are to edit and one single artwork background layer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just been updated to CC at work and I am having all sorts of issues. But the two main pressing ones are:
1. When I save, it keeps "not responding". Sometimes it crashes, sometimes it doesn't. When it does, I lose everything. It takes anywhere from 1 - 5 minutes to save. I thought it was an issue with a large file, but it does it to me in a one page file with only one photo in it as well.
2. Layers. This is the killer right here. Again, I thought this was a capatability issue when using old files, but it has proved me wrong. As I create layers and new artwork, it works fine. However, once I save and re-open the file, all the artwork has been combined to a single layer and then I have to dig it all out to do anything to it, only to have it do the same thing the next time I repoen the file.
Is it me? Is it default settings somewhere in CC? I have major deadlines that I think I am going to miss if things keep continueing the way they are.
System Specs:
Illustrator CC 16.0.3 (Tried to update to 17 and it said everything was up to date, twice)
Windows 7
Dell Optiplex 7010 with Core i7 and brand new AMD video card.
I have one file, that contains 100 different artboards. I need to add 50 more. Is this possible. When I tried to add new artboard, the "New Artboard" button becomes inactive and the "New Artboard" option from the popup menu is disabled.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to work out how to rotate a pattern swatch without that rotation affecting all the other pattern swatches on my palette. I don't want the rotation to apply to just one instance of fill, I want to edit the actual swatch so that whenever it is used in the future, that rotation is applied.
I have tried the obvious - eg going to object, transform, pattern only... and it works, but it also rotates all my other swatches; and I can't work out if it's rotating it for just that object or if it's actually updating the pattern swatch orientation.
Additionally some comprehensive tutorials on making patterns using the updated CS6 software - everything I've found so far just raises further questions for me. I'm talking about, for example, being able to change the width or rotation of a stripe within a pattern and have it still tile seamlessly.
I'm using CS6 on a PC.
