AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating A Single Line Or Stick Font For Machining

Dec 11, 2013

Is there any way to create a single line stick type font in inventor. Everything comes in as a box type which is not ideal for selecting geomety once imported into cam software for machining/engraving. The model text will be extruded/embossed, but it it possible to get single line text in a dwg or idw that will import into cam software. It would be nice to be able to import the text from a inventor dwg,idw to a different level in mastercam to save time from having to redraw all the text in the cam software.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Cannot Get Font To Stick In Command Box

May 11, 2012

AutoCAD 2008 & 2012 – Right-click on the box that says “Command:”, go to options.  User changes the Font type but it does not stick after re-opening another blank autocad drawing.  I tried Updated the font, Set as Current profile, exported the profile, attempted acad to open the profile automatically with the /p command in the Shortcut Target with the same results.

I can verify that the profile from the “/p” is being opened properly but the custom settings/font do not stick.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Machining On Parts Within Weldments?

Oct 9, 2013

I have a weldment file containg a 12" i beam with a small plate welded to the top of the beam. I have to machine that plate down to its finished thickness and punch a hole thru others. I use the machining button and remove my material with no issues. The problem comes when I launch the part the machining is not reflected at the part level. Do I need do have 2 versions (2 files)  of the part machined/unmachined? I am sure this is a common practice within Inventor. See attached .jpg for clarity.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adaptivity In Weldment Machining

Jun 28, 2013

I started my project, the design is basically a bulkhead chassis design with multiple access panels on all 3 sides. I wanted all of the hole patterns on this assembly to be based on one sketch. So I created a base part inside the assembly, this part compiled of sketches and the sketches compiled of construct lines and points (for panel and chassis fastener hole patterns). This was going great, after learning a couple tricks.

Manufactuing had determined that I need to machine the holes on the chassis after welding. Which means I need to move the adaptive features, from the part files, to the assembly file.

So here is my problem, assembly sketchs are not adaptable? Either projecting to (from that base part file), or projecting from (from the assembly sketch to the part file). I tried both. How I should model this? How do I make weldment machining adaptive?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Single Line Cuts Using Laser

Jan 8, 2014

I am working on a project where several holes in a sheet metal part will need to be cut as "knockouts". In previous years, either an engineer or the laser cutter programmer would set up the machine to partially cut a circle, but leave a gap to hold the knockout in place (basically a 340 degree arc).

Now that we are using Inventor, is there a way that we can create these features so that they show up in a dwg as a single line? It must be a single line; some of the holes are very small and if the laser makes more than one pass it could affect the integrity of the feature.

The closest I have gotten to accomplishing this is a surface extrusion on the folded part. When I send it to an .idw file, the line appears in the folded model, but I need it to appear in the flat pattern.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part Drawing At Different Stage Of Machining?

Aug 19, 2009

What would be best work flow for showing a part and having drawing for the different stages of machining, I would like to have a print with different sheets at say a lathe stage, than a broached part stage, then a milled stage. Should I do a part for each stage, just save to a different name or Start with a part from the first op, than derive it to another part, and make that part complete on second op, than derive it and make a third part, and so on.

Would like to do this, because we make special shaped part from round stock, so need print's to tell floor people rough blank form. Than mills machine it into final form from that lathe blank.

Similar to casted and machined drawing

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Add Welds After Adding Machining Features

Sep 30, 2011

If certain modelling / sketch features should be avoided under the machining feature group.

I have an assembly file containing three part files, plus a weldment feature and machining features.  In the real world this sub-assembly represents two metal components welded together, of which the third (plastic) component is then inserted, and this is followed by the final machining process - adding the staggered slot (see jpeg 1).

My problem is I get an error message as soon as I try to activate editing the weldment feature group (see jpeg 2).  Clicking ‘Accept’ I can then edit the current weld, but I can not add any new welds.  Inventor will let me choose to place a new fillet or groove weld, and even show a preview (see jpeg 3).  But on clicking ‘Ok’ or ‘Apply’ I get another error message from which it won’t let me proceed (see jpeg 4 (in my second post)).

The error messages relate to the constraints placed on the work planes used to achieve the model features (extrusions, revolutions, chamfers, etc) under the machining features group.

A couple of points; the weld(s) have to proceed the machining features so each manufacturing stage can be clearly illustrated on the drawing of the sub-assembly.  And yes in this case I could remodel the assembly, but it is time consuming and regularly our customers will want the design tweaked, so having to remodel every time would be unacceptable.  Thirdly, I believe the work planes are needed to constrain the sketches (see jpeg 5 (in my second post) - the work plane is constrained to the ‘red highlighted dot’ and tangent to the cylindrical face).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Why Does Suppressing Machining Feature In One Representation Change All Representations

Apr 19, 2013

Inventor 2013..I am trying to show a part in a drawing of three different configurations of a casting:

1) Rough as received from the foundry

2) Partially machined or rough machined

3) Final machined

What is the most basic bullet-proof way to show this? Three different models? What is the procedure to change the representation to show changes in the model? Why does suppressing a machining feature in one representation change all representations? The rough part is brought into an assembly and the machining or removal of material happens in the assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Change Font Line Spacing

Jul 10, 2013

How to change the line spacing for fonts in IV2010?

Reason I ask is b/c I had to change fonts from RomanS to RomanD, b/c the former font wouldn't print clearly enough for the shop and customer to read it (both in pdf and dwg/dxf).

The problem is, RomanD has DOUBLE SPACING as default, instead of the usual single spacing. I can't get the "Styles" editor to change the spacing in the VIEW LABELS and WELD SYMBOLS.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Can't Convert Multi Line Attributes To Single Line

Jan 22, 2010

We are creating a new company title block for the use in Inventor 2010 and AutoCAd 2010. It has initially been generated in Inventor and exported to AutoCAD. My problem is that all attributes that came over are now setup as multiline attributes and I can't seem to change them to single line. Therefore you have to open the multiline editor separately for every single item to make changes in lieu of just 'tabbing' through the values in the Enhanced Attribute Editor. This adds time and frustration and seems to be intolerable for some of my colleagues.

Is there a way to change the attributes to a single line in AutoCAD I'm just not aware of? I tried to find different settings for the export from Inventor but the options seem to be very limited.

I could probably go over this and create separate AutoCad only titleblock and border but that would kind of defeat the purpose.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Developing Casting Models Into Machining Models

Oct 6, 2011

We are looking for a workflow example of developing casting models into machining models.

Typically our castings are made from different materials (Fig-1) and then machining (Fig-2) are created from these castings.

Is creating the casting as an iPart (with different materials) and then deriving the machining from the casting the proper method?

Doing it this way seems to force us into making a machining for each casting material instead of just one machining that is an iPart. How should this be set-up for BOM purposes and for use with Vault (Base Version)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Negative Extrusion Refuses To Stick?

Aug 23, 2013

I have a model in which we want to make lighter than the prototype turned out to be. In order to acomplish this i am removing a chunk of the metal in the lid(images attatched. I have completed the sketch seen in red and extruded it to prove that the loop is complete but when I try to reverse the extrusioni to cut from the lid dragging down the arrow as an example, it turns the effected area a darker red than normaly seen when you cut something. When I let go of the left mouse button it pops back up to the original surface having no effect and refuses to go benieth it and when I apply I get the error seen at the bottom of the attatched image. I do this sort of cutting often instead of digging down to the root sketch then dealing with the ripple effect of the changes we want to make.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Remove Feature Line Used As Break Line When Creating Surface

Dec 11, 2012

I needed to remove a feature line that I used as a break line when creating a surface.   When I removed the feature line from the definition of the surface, the grading did not change.  It appears the points created by the feature line remain which is why grading didn't change.  The only work around was to delete these points.

I noticed the same thing happens when I removed the surface boundary and inserted a new boundary.  why these points remain and how to remove when I delete boundary and feature line from surface?

except for the quantity of the line . the case is I was taught to make a title block tempelate. For each single item, like text"STUDENTS NAME " or "PART NMAE" , and inluding the attributes, I was instructed to use single line text instead of mutliple line. I was told that single line won't change. What does it mean it won't change?

I feel that single line is more precisely controlled ,while the multiple line text is more ofen used in puting the notes in a drawing. But in what case use what I am confuesd. Especailly when make the tible block, It seems to use the single line text is the unique way to make each feature in its status.
