View 18 RepliesI played with the feature a bit and understand how to create the patterns. Problem is when I go to fill in my 12x12 space there are seams. I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Am I doing something wrong or is the largest size you can create with this tool seamlessly only 9x9?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI love the new Pattern Maker in CS6, but I keep running into a problem:
When I create a pattern that is NOT tiled in Grid (i.e. Brick), it usually works without any problem. But once I save and re-open the file, opening the pattern in PM again will show this message:
A clipping mask was created around the pattern tile bounds to preserve legacy pattern appearance. For best results, release the clipping mask when changing the tile size or editing art that overlaps the tile edge. I would then find that, instead of a single motif layed out in a Brick tile, I would have one complete motif in the center and four quartered motifs on the corners of one clipping box. This is tiled in a Grid pattern to emulate a Brick appearance.
So long story short, what's supposed to be a Brick tile turns into a Grid tile that's faking a Brick tile.
Is there a way to keep the simple Brick tiles?
I work at a small company with multiple designers (5 of us) where 3 of us work remotely. We use dropbox to manage our files so that everyone has access--we keep client files in specific folders and stock media in a shared folder.
Currently whenever we open a file that's been edited by someone else, we have to go in and individually relink the files. Some would prefer to embed the files, however this can increase filesize by 60-400mb. Our current files total in at around 500gb, so I don't think that's a viable option.
4 of us are on Macs, 1 on Windows. 1 has CS5, 3 have CS6 and one has CC.
My question is this: If we all have the same path to dropbox (or the same path to the file, either way) will Illustrator be able to automatically find the files?
Eg. X:/Dropbox/...
If so, will it work cross platform?
The picture in question is a mosaic made up of thousands of tiny shapes in Illustrator. It is about 28 in x 48 in but there is white space around the image. I am less than a quarter way through, and I am noticing that Ai is starting to be slow when refreshing the screen e.g. when changing zoom. The file is 13MB. I am concerned that the image will be too large for Ai to handle efficiently. Need to break the image down into quarters and put them together right at the end, or do you think Ai will cope with the size and complexity efficiently? If I have to make separate sections, is there a useful technique to use?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi'm using illustrator cs5. making a pattern containing a pattern. i have some illustrations that i've put a simple polka dot pattern behind. in order for illustrator to accept it as pattern, i've been expanding the polka dot part before dragging it over to the swatches panel. however, when i do this it slows everything down tremendously and usually makes the system crash.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a pattern swatch for this shape, but it doesn't seem to be possible to find the edge of this pattern. Take a look at the image I inserted, the colored boxes are the shape that will be repeated.
The next picture is an example of how the shape is repeated (in a clipping mask):
Here is an example ai file from my dropbox: [URL] ....
I want to be able to apply this pattern to many different shapes very quickly, so a pattern swatch would be super useful. Either way, I would really like to know the answer to this puzzle.
Having trouble saving a pattern in 64bit Illustrator? Seems to work fine in 32bit but only saves the original symbol (1 time) in 64. Follow the same procedure in each case, drag symbol (or place own symbol) to library then to document, make pattern (all works fine) but then "save a copy" in 64 only saves the original symbol not the pattern(in my case).... 32bit saves the pattern.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have been hired to map a pattern onto a picture of a bag so it looks like the pattern is on that bag. I have the whole adobe creative cloud so I have all the programs I could possibly use but I don't know how to make the bag look like it has a pattern on it. I know to to creat a geometrical shape, revolve it, and map a symbol onto it and I know to to make a symbol but what I'm trying to figure out is just to have a plain image and map a pattern on that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Illustrator CS6 and Photoshop CS6.I've been creating patterns in Illustrator, saving them to the swatch panel and then applying them to certain size squares.
I'd like to get those patterns into Photoshop but no matter what I try, there are small artefacts on them. I've tried exporting to PSD, JPG, PNG..They look perfect in Illustrator.
Please see image below.
How would I be able to create an image like this where the highlighted section completes in sequence. i.e - the overlapping sequence stays correct?
when I create a pattern using the new pattern maker and I apply it to say a rectangle, how can I make sure that the pattern is centred? For example I have a chevron pattern that I want to fill a rectangle, but I want to make sure that the chevron pattern is dead centre.

Illustrator will not let me duplicate the image when I try apply it through 3D extrude & bevel - map art option. It doesn't seem like this should be a difficult task. Basically, my sand picture is 1000px x 1000px. I saved it as a jpeg, then imported it into my swatch gallery in illustrator (pretty sure that's the correct way). When I try to apply it to my sand using "map art" I have the option to "scale to fit" which distorts the image horribly. I want it to be a 1:1 ratio, if that makes sense, only smaller and duplicated 10x or whatever to cover the whole object. It's not a seamless picture that I'm mapping, so if there's a filter that I can apply that would make it less noticable. I'll attach a screenshot of the sand to show you what I'm talking about. The top layer of sand looks almost perfect, but the bottom one looks terrible because I had to stretch symbol to cover the whole object. If you can tell from the image, each grain of sand is stretched horizontally by like 10 so it doesn't even look like sand.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to save a pattern swatch and not the whole swatch library so I deleted all the swatches until it was just the one pattern swatch. I saved it as an .ase and then opened it in another document. I noticed however that when I open the pattern in the other document it shows the default swatch library and no pattern swatch. When I save the swatch as an ai. it opens the default library as well as the pattern swatch. Is there a way to save just the pattern swatch?

I am having trouble makeing this look right when the perspective is skewed a lot (see right brick wall), the left brick wall isn't too bad. I used an envelope mesh 1 2 rows and 1 column. Is this the only way to preserve pattern when skeweing an object?

When I do this on a scatter brush, I'm presented with the expected dialog and a preview of the updated art thumbnail, but no change takes place with I click OK. It's happens on three different computers I've tried. Is this feature broken?

Whenever I make a pattern in CS6 and repeat it there is always a line showing up on the initial boundary box. The objects are over the boundary line and should not be a problem. Below you can see the line break in the pattern.

I am not so familiar with illustrator so how to make more effectively and fast. I have got designed pattern with pen tool. And now I would like to add two different "relief" pattern to it- you can see it on my picture- the red one. How to do that?
1. adapt shapes to background grey shape of flower?
2. keep same direction of each pattern- line?
3. keep same distance from each other?
How to do that? is it there some way?

However, when I fill an object with the pattern, on the monitor there appear to be vertical seams. If I zoom in very large, the seams go away, and they do not print. Is this just an artifact of the monitor or should I be concerned that the seams will appear if the illustration is posted to a web page?
