Feb 24, 2013I've used Illustrator for several years and it did it until..CS6... and now it notifies me that it is an unknown format... in both the Finder and Bridge. In Bridge I've set FH11 filetype preferences to CS6 and in the Findera FH11 file was selected and in teh Information Panel, Illustrator 6 was chosen as well as 'Open with...Change All'
I have plenty of Freehand files that I convert on as needed and I don't want to install CS5 just for that purpose.

Jun 18, 2013You used to be able to open Freehand 8 files in Illustrator CS4 by changing their extension to .eps, but that trick appears to no longer work with CS6. Any trick with CS6 to get them to open?

Sep 9, 2010I've been using CS5 for a few months and have been able to import Freehand 10 files without any problems. About a week ago, I tried importing a Freehand file, and it won't open in Illustrator. I still get the "Freehand Import Options" pop up window, can still click the OK button, but nothing happens. I've tried re-installing Illustrator, but it hasn't changed anything with the issue.

Oct 25, 2013I work at a small company with multiple designers (5 of us) where 3 of us work remotely. We use dropbox to manage our files so that everyone has access--we keep client files in specific folders and stock media in a shared folder.
Currently whenever we open a file that's been edited by someone else, we have to go in and individually relink the files. Some would prefer to embed the files, however this can increase filesize by 60-400mb. Our current files total in at around 500gb, so I don't think that's a viable option.
4 of us are on Macs, 1 on Windows. 1 has CS5, 3 have CS6 and one has CC.
My question is this: If we all have the same path to dropbox (or the same path to the file, either way) will Illustrator be able to automatically find the files?
Eg. X:/Dropbox/...
If so, will it work cross platform?

Dec 28, 2004I save .eps files in photoshop 7.0., open them in freehand MX,
make a .pdf and some pictures don't appear in the .pdf
(but the old ones do). I tried the whole process (from scanning on) but it doesn't work.
I installed the new full versions again...
any idea about the export preferences or preview formats (freehand says it doesn't accept TIFF previews..!?)

Aug 19, 2012on my windows 7 machine my freehand import of Illustrator CS5 and CS4 is broken after installing cs6 creative cloud.
I can still select a freehand file to open and the dialog box appears, but after choosing OK nothing happens. No file opens and no error appears. It doesn´t depend on the freehand file because my other machine with CS3 can still open these files.
What can i do to repair illustrator? - it´s part of a master collection install.

Oct 24, 2008Any workaround for text along path conversion from freehand to illustrator?The problem is text along path in freehand which is slightly moved along path.The result after conversion to illustrator is an invissible (exept a red+ where the text should be)text. Sometimes you can't even correct the problemtext so you had to place hundreds/thousends of text (streetmaps) again after conversion.
Exporting the Freehand file as illustrator 7 gives a much better result for the text part. (the art works is in this case seperated into lines and fills)The message I get opening the illustrator file in CS3 is that legacy text should be updated, clicking the update button and text is looking way better and there is less text to replace.Opening the Feehand file in CS3 doesn't give me this method.
Illustrator :: Retaining Numbers In Freehand Graphs
Jan 9, 2014I have several Freehand bar graphs and line graphs that I need to convert to Illustrator.So far, I have saved the files to Illustrator 7 and then opened them in Illustrator CS2.
But the numbers underlying the graphs don't seem to come through.How can I keep those numbers intact, bringing them in from Illustrator so that I can go back into them and update numbers to generate the bar graphs and line graphs in Illustrator?
Illustrator :: Transparency From Imported FreeHand File
Aug 13, 2012I converted all my FreeHand files. Some have transparencies. Illustrator shows the transparencies, but does not recognize them in the Transparency panel. It says they have 100% opacity even though they appear transparent. I assume this is just how they got converted. Is there any fast way to make them recognize their original opacity % as set in FreeHand?

Jul 25, 2012Is there a text editor window in Illustrator similar to Freehand? I want to be able to edit text without constantly having to zoom in so that I can see the text, then zoom out again to see the whole page.
In Freehand, you could select a Preference that would open a Text Editor window that was consistant in size no matter what the zoom level was. You could opt to show the text in 12pt Helvetica or in the actual font and size. This was enormously useful in organizing and shaping the size of the text.

For each file I would ideally like to track information such as: date/time taken, location, names of people, event, DVD volume lable. Thumbnails would be nice as well. I imagine some form of database which I can search for content and know which DVD/CD volume to load. Most product I have seen so far assume that the whole data library is on local disk, and doesn't handle the data being on removable media. If there is software does tracks media files but not on removeable media I will still be interested.

Mar 17, 2013I have just installed PSP X5.
Problem 1. When I open the program and go to Manage, the files on my hard drive are listed. When I click on one of the folders the program stops responding and I must end it with Task Manager.
Problem 2. None of the files on my external hard drives are listed. When I add thaose folders to the Navigation window the message "No files found" appears in the Organizer.
When I double click on a file in Windows Explorer it opens in PSP as it should. The program is useless as it is. How to proceed?
I have reinstalled 2X
I have deleted all temp files.
I have lots of space on my hard drive
Windows 7 Pro

When I open PSPro X5 in MANAGE mode the new file folders names show on the folder tree but no picture files show in the Organizer photo tray when the folder is selected. Folders on tree before the 2 latest display pictures okay. I have no ability to select photos to edit from the MANAGE mode in those latest folders. Folders and photos appear normally in EXPLORER.

Jan 5, 2014The picture in question is a mosaic made up of thousands of tiny shapes in Illustrator. It is about 28 in x 48 in but there is white space around the image. I am less than a quarter way through, and I am noticing that Ai is starting to be slow when refreshing the screen e.g. when changing zoom. The file is 13MB. I am concerned that the image will be too large for Ai to handle efficiently. Need to break the image down into quarters and put them together right at the end, or do you think Ai will cope with the size and complexity efficiently? If I have to make separate sections, is there a useful technique to use?
