Illustrator :: How To Make Pattern Followed Pen Tool
Jan 21, 2013I am not so familiar with illustrator so how to make more effectively and fast. I have got designed pattern with pen tool. And now I would like to add two different "relief" pattern to it- you can see it on my picture- the red one. How to do that?
1. adapt shapes to background grey shape of flower?
2. keep same direction of each pattern- line?
3. keep same distance from each other?
How to do that? is it there some way?

Nov 2, 2012I followed this tutorial to create 3D Christmas lights, and all was going well until I reached one of the final steps- release clipping mask in order to proceed with making a pattern brush. The "Release" option is simply not available, I'm only allowed to "Make."
My questions:
- What might have I missed/what should I look for to enable making a pattern brush with 3d objects?
Paint.NET :: Make Vase Pattern Flat Turn 3D Image To 2D
Dec 26, 2012I have a picture of a vase which of course has the shadow of a 3 dimensional object as well as the warp in the image caused by the image wrapping around the round vase. Is there a way that I can "unwrap" the image from the vase and to have the picture appear flat? I tried manually doing it with warp grid but it was a lot of work and did not look very smooth.

May 6, 2013I really want to make a small honeycomb swatch pattern (the polygons should be small - 2 px x 2px) , but I just cannot get it to work. What I did is make one small polygon, and went to: Object>pattern>make and applied the following settings:
You will see that on the shoulder of the t-shirt, the pattern is kinda trasparent - the bottom layer is visible-I don't want it to be.The bottom pattern(on the side of the t-shirt) you will see came out fine, except that the polygons are too big and I cannot get it any smaller.
Illustrator :: CS6 - How To Make Simple Hatch Pattern (for Fill)
Sep 30, 2013I am trying to make a hatch pattern in Illustrator CS6 with the pattern tool so I can apply a clean, single lined hatch to various shapes (some small some big - but the hatch needs to remain at the same seamless scale). I understand that there is a Basic Graphics_Lines Pattern under the Swatches Palette, but I don't understand how to edit it with the Pattern Options dialogue box.
I must be missing something, because I wouldn't think making a single line at 45° repeat at the same spacing for a shape fill would be that difficult. I shouldn't have to make a line with the pan tool at a stroke of 1000 with a 0.1-3 dash and make a clipping mask should I?
Basically I don't know how to make a pattern's lines match up when I do the 5x5 or 3x3. I tried doing 1x1 and the result is that of the image with the red stroke...still not aligning. Do I need to get mathematical with the size of the line I'm drawing and its stroke to allow H and V Spacing to work?

Jan 6, 2014Im making a logo for a client and am having a nightmare of a time trying to properly use the clipping masks in illustrator CS5. I copied and pasted the logo I made behind itself with a different color just for a drop shadow-like effect. And now I'm trying to apply this diagonal line pattern I created over top the "shadow" I made to give it some texture.
Here's an example of what I'm going for, only imagine the line pattern on the text instead of banner.
Illustrator :: Pattern Brush Won't Make Closed Path After Expansion
Mar 9, 2014I've made a pattern brush that I'm using to simulate a woods line for a boardgame map:
Shown above is the unstroked bounding box as well. To use this brush, I draw an outline of a woods mass with the pencil tool, then apply the brush and Expand Appearance. At that point I'm hoping the brush sections will join into one closed path so that I can fill it with a woodsy green, but instead the fill gets applied to each section of brush independently:
The join points seem fine - it's not like the two ends of the brush don't line up at all: EDIT - Actually, that's not just one point in the middle there - that's the ends of both paths lying almost on top of each other. It's possible to separate the two and then ctrl-J join them. Problem is, I want that single path automatically.
So how to get Illustrator to treat the resulting path as one closed path instead of a compound path?

Nov 30, 2012I'm trying to make a repeat pattern tile (using CS5 on Windows 7), but when I crop the pattern, the expanded paths underneath become visible as on the flowers.This is what I did after creating the artwork:
Used the rectangle tool to make a box with fill/stroke directly on top of the artboard.. Select all > Expand (selecting stroke only, not fill) Deselect the cropping box and grouped the remaining objects. Reselected the cropping box and grouped all objects Pathfinder > Crop I'm guessing it may have something to do with the fact I used a gradient on the flowers but how to resolve it.
Illustrator :: Pattern Brush With Image Without Gaps?
Aug 20, 2013I try to create a patternbrush using an image. Image is created in PS and lines up nice horizontaly. Droping it into Illustrator. From there I drag and drop it onto the brush panel and create a patterbrush. I also include an empty rectangle to control the spacing ( suggested elsewhere ? ). If I apply that brush to a curved path there are always little gaps between the segments. How can I construct the brush without the gaps? There is a denimseam brush within Illustrator that does exactly what I try to achieve except I can not.

I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Jun 23, 2012I love the new Pattern Maker in CS6, but I keep running into a problem:
When I create a pattern that is NOT tiled in Grid (i.e. Brick), it usually works without any problem. But once I save and re-open the file, opening the pattern in PM again will show this message:
A clipping mask was created around the pattern tile bounds to preserve legacy pattern appearance. For best results, release the clipping mask when changing the tile size or editing art that overlaps the tile edge. I would then find that, instead of a single motif layed out in a Brick tile, I would have one complete motif in the center and four quartered motifs on the corners of one clipping box. This is tiled in a Grid pattern to emulate a Brick appearance.
So long story short, what's supposed to be a Brick tile turns into a Grid tile that's faking a Brick tile.
Is there a way to keep the simple Brick tiles?

Jun 5, 2012i'm using illustrator cs5. making a pattern containing a pattern. i have some illustrations that i've put a simple polka dot pattern behind. in order for illustrator to accept it as pattern, i've been expanding the polka dot part before dragging it over to the swatches panel. however, when i do this it slows everything down tremendously and usually makes the system crash.

Although I am very comfortable with PS, Illustrator. One of the key things is making "Cut lines" in Illustrator to send to the cutting program. Now here is my dillema, all of my images I have made are in Photoshop. To make these cut lines I have to stroke the image. When I bring a picture into Illustrator I can not get it to stroke that picture. It just strokes the box around it, or unless I draw a circle or shape around it and stroke that shape. Please refer to the picture I have attached. The first one is a decal that we initially made. The second is the image that I want to stroke for cut lines do I can just have that as a decal without the white circle.

the image itself is a high resolution because it needs to be, so not surprisingly it keeps making illustrator crash. the print needs to happen, and it needs to become a swatch so I can apply it to tee shirts, hats etc. so far this has been completely impossible.

The thing is, most of the images that are in tds we want to be background images so that we can put stuff on top of it. So we need the exported html to generate the image size correctly. For example, I don't want

but

The problem is that illustrator for whatever reason is generating the images slightly too small (I guess to make the image size smaller?), then is stretching them using width and height attributes. As I'm sure you guys are aware of, the background attribute has no way of specifying a width and height.
