I'm using cs6 and I want to rotate and scale individual letters. Whenever I try to do it I am only altering the text box. Is there any way I can do the same thing with the text itself without rasterizing it?
View 4 RepliesI notice with GIMP 2.8 that I can't type in numeric values if I want to scale/rotate/etc. a selection. I can use the mouse to manipulate my selection freely, but I'm pretty out of luck if I want an exact value (though I know that I can hold Ctrl for certain snapping, which is extremely useful).

It is common practice for us to convert live type to outlines to avoid any unforeseen type re-flow at the rip. This particular file added a character at the end of a line that wasn't there before the conversion. I have attached screen shots. Is there a way to post the native file to this forum?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm intermediate (at best) with Illustrator. I'm using CS6 on a 2009 iMac. How to make Illustrator ignore stroke weight/cap/join settings when I'm applying a live rotate/multiple copy effect on a group of paths? Currently, Illustrator sets the rotation point to the outermost part of my stroke (figuring in the strokes atrributes), but I only want it to calculate the from the path's structure: the coordinates of my designated anchor point.
Here's the top/right group of paths with a rotate/ 3 copies effect of 90 degrees. Looks problem-free at this view.
Here's that top/right group of paths with the addition of a reflect/ 1 copy effect of X-axis. Still no apparent problems.
But here's a close up of the misalignment of corner points. As shown, the Transform effect is based off the strokes attributes (the tip of its corner), not the actual location of the corner point.
It does not apply different cap/corner styles or stroke alignments; that only slightly nudges the pivot point to the center.
Plus, this one point stroke is somewhat arbitrary. I only set it so in order to see my dynamic effects.
Tweaking the vertical/horizontal moves effects of the rotated/copied elements won't support because this art will later undergo lots of alteration, mostly changes in stroke weight (maybe even variable stroke width).
I need the skeleton of my structure to snap together precisely.
Any solution, no matter how roundabout, would save this project!
I'm trying to rotate text inside an text area type.That is, rotate the text (so its e.g. 30 degrees going across the screen), but the area it is within does not rotate.

It seems this shortcut works only with US and UK keyboard.
I'm using a french keyboard where it doesn't work, probably because there is'nt any key especially dedicated to the Tilde sign (~), and you need to combine multiple keys to get this symbol (Alt GR + the key 2 above the key Z) .
I finally found the shortcut on MAC which is the keyboard key with the britisih pound sterling symbol (£). But not on PC !!!how to get this shortcut on PC with a french keyboard ?
Is there a way to change the shortcut for this very useful option, without having to take care of the kind of keyboard ?
I just installed CS6. I have found a resizing problem that seems to exist relating to both objecgts and type.
For example, I was changing the leading in some text. I typed in 11.8 and the next thing I know the leading is set as 2 pts. I have changed other thiings within the text window and had the type rescale its width. It is a bit like "whack-a-mole" in that you fix one thing and it resets something else.
When I have typed in numbers to proportionately resize an object, the next thing I know, the computer makes it much smaller. If I hit command-Z to try to get back to where I started, it resizes it in even increments (like .125" or something).
Is this some kind of maddening helper function (like the spelling correction in mail program) that can be turned off?
I thought there was a way to insert an image (tif) to model space, and adjust it like you would any line or polygon. Apparently this is not the case. When I attach an image, where I place it is permanent and I can't even select it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
I have the below code (from a user here on the forum) which works great for aligning text, mtext and blocks to 2 points. For annotative entities, it respects the rotation angle for mtext and text.
ie I have an mtext object at 1"=20' scale and at 1"=40' scale. I run the command when the current annotative scale is 1"=40'. The object at 40' scale has changed, but the 20' scale is unchanged. This is working as I would like it to.
But for annotative blocks, it gets weirded out. In the above example, the block at 40' will rotate, but so will the attributes at 20' scale. But linework and hatching at 20' scale will be unchanged. it looks really weird. how to get it to play nice with blocks. Ideally, I'd like the block to be at different rotation angles in different annotative scales.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWorking on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I have a problem with line type scale for hidden line it appears different line type scale in another drawing, al though the setting for line type scale & Global scale factor is same for both the drawings. Is there any other setting for the line type.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm working on I've drawn a dragon using the pen tool. Now I want to use the live paint tool, however, after I select my dragon it won't let me "make" the live paint. I also can't expand, not sure if that's related.
I tested another simple drawing and was able to both expand and use live paint, so it must be something weird that I've done to my dragon.
I have a trial version of CS6. Also attaching a screen cap.
I came across the term "live text", which I am not familiar with. My search gave no results.

i have a layout that i made into a PDF to show my client. the layout has a pattern and when you view the PDF, the pattern moves around as you Zoom in and out of the pdf. i have never experienced this before.
i tried saving with different settings to different versions but they all do it.
i have layers off, and illustrator editibility off.
edit: the pattern only moves when viewed in Preview. still i don't understand shouldn't be doing it.
In Illustrator CC every time I click Merge Paint I need to go back to Live Paint > Gap Options > and reset Gap Detections to "Paint stop at Small Gaps". Despite I set "Paint stop at Small Gaps" as my default many times now, it seems that Illustrator CC does reset it automatically to "Custom Gaps" and therefore Merge Paint doesn't work correctly. A nightmare, I am forced to use Illustrator CS6!
View 18 Replies View RelatedI did a live trace and it did pretty well. The image I traced was fairly simple. But I ended up with a lot of extra pieces in what should be a solid color. I've tried Select > Object > Stray points, but that didn't work. I have large area that I want to be one solid piece. Within this area, there are lots of little "pieces" that are the same color... How do I merge them all into one piece? I tried "Unite" in the pathfinder, and that didn't work, either.
In case I'm not being clear, basically, I want to do what the "smooth" function does in Photoshop... but in Illustrator.
I'm using CS6 on a Mac.
Is it better to use Live Trace with images that have no color and are just black and white and to apply all color in AI with Live Paint bucket or can you get good results with images that have color when using Live Trace?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several .dwg files which I attach using XREF so that I can ensure I have the latest versions combined.
The problem is that the line types do not show up correctly. After looking up on google I have found that this is a problem due to it being a 3d model rather than it being flat.
I managed to half solve the issue by inserting each drawing into one, then exploding the whole image. Then changing the scale in the bottom right to around 1:200 to make the line types visible.
My problem is this ends up being a lot of work as the separate drawings can be updated daily. Is it possible to have all the drawings Xref'd in and to be able to have the scale changed to be able to read the line types? I tried to save the XREF setup as a template, then just bind all the drawings into one, explode and change the scale. But for some reason this doesnt work for me. I end up with just solid lines, rather than line types. I don't the drawings are made up of several lines, all of different length. (This I have been told is why the scales do not appear correctly)
I have been shown one method to work around this, which is to open the Xref drawings, explode them, then take each section of line and manually change each scale to the biggest that shows up.
I have been using AutoCAD for many many years and only recetnly discovered the "MEASUREMENT" command. This has allowed me to work out why some hatches are larger than others but I still don't understand hatches! I have a few questions,
Lets establish some things I know,.
1) MEASUREMENT 1 is for us metric people.
2) HPSCALE alters the hatch scale for all drawn hatches after
3) Default for HPSCALE is 1 (tiny in metric)
Now the questions:
1) Does the hatch scale relate to any type of distance variable? e.g. the gap between the lines in ANSI31 is say 5 times the hatch scale or is this totally and unterly random?
2) If there is a logic behind it, does this apply to all hatches in ACADISO.PAT? e.g. scale of 10 produces 10mm gaps in all hatches? (I know it doesn't but there must be some logic to it? Surely?)
2) If the hatch scale is not logical (see Q1) what is the point in the meaurement command and ACAD.PAT and ACADISO.PAT files?
When opening properties tab, I always trying to make my line scale value into decimal but i didn't know how to do with it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Illustrator CC and recently I have noticed that I can no longer snap and aligh objects to each other (with the automatic highlighted green color, which shows you the center, intersect e.t.c). As well as the Live corners aren't present, after pressing Direct selection tool nothing changes. None of the settings were changed, at least I was ticking snap to function back, but it didn't change anything again.
why I just can't see the Live corners? I was also able to see the green lines between shapes before, but now it isn't working at all. I am running it on Windows 7.
In CS5 there was an option to use the Live Paint Bucket on a newly traced image and there were also gap options to close gaps when doing this. I do not see these options in CS6. Where are they?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have done a live trace of a somewhat complex GIF that I want to simplify into black silhouette. What I have is a black object filled with dozens of irregularly shaped closed paths within it. I want to get rid of these, and was thinking I could just choose "ungroup," then select all closed paths except the large one enveloping them and delete them. I'm obviously misunderstanding something, though, since Illustrator sees what I have as one object already. The only way I'm able to remove all those little white shapes is to delete their anchor points one by one. There has to be a better way . . .
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have recently updated our office Adobe Creative Suite, and are now using Illustrator CS6 to clean-up hand drawn sketches. When we run any sort of trace on a simple, black and white line drawing, the trace results in a negative image: the white background turns black, and the outline of the sketch is white. We have tried checking the "ignore white" box and several other settings changes. Initially, for our first few times using the new suite this didn't happen:
