Illustrator :: 17.1 - Live Corners Disappear After Scaling Shape
Feb 15, 2014
The Live Corners feature is welcome in Illustrator 17.1, but I find that it works inconsistently. One issue that I've isolated is that scaling a path makes the live corners disappear.
To reproduce:
Create a rounded rectangle
Select the path
Click the direct selection tool to verify that Live Corners are present
Click the selection tool
Scale the rounded rectangle (say drag up from the scale point in the middle of the bottom side)
Click the direct selection tool - where are the live corners?
I'm excited to use the new Illustrator Live Corner Feature but for some reason using the Direct Select tool does not bring up the live corners on any shape I make. I am using Illustrator CC 64 bit on a PC runnign Windows 7.
I am using Illustrator CC and recently I have noticed that I can no longer snap and aligh objects to each other (with the automatic highlighted green color, which shows you the center, intersect e.t.c). As well as the Live corners aren't present, after pressing Direct selection tool nothing changes. None of the settings were changed, at least I was ticking snap to function back, but it didn't change anything again.
why I just can't see the Live corners? I was also able to see the green lines between shapes before, but now it isn't working at all. I am running it on Windows 7.
I often need to create icons at small sizes 6-12 (pts) so that it's easy to copy and paste into InDesign. On small corner areas, the widget disappears. When I scale the vector drawing up, they appear. I can work on them larger and just scale them back down in but was wondering if there was a setting or something to get them to show at the smaller sizes.
I have the following image above where I'm trying to add color to different aspects of the drawing. For instance, I'd like to be able to add color to the hair (ie the eyebrows and hair on top of his head) and I'm using live paint to do this. The problem is, some of the live paint areas spill into each other, ie the hair spills into the outline of the head, etc. So I'm wondering, what is the best way to go about dividing these areas so live paint recognizes them as two different entities? What I've been doing currently is drawing a line segment, and then using divide below, however this gives me unpredictable results sometimes and I have a hunch there is a better way.
I have created a pie chart and ungrouped the slices. When I use the white arrow to select the slices, two of the shapes are missing a live corner widget in one corner. So, when I move the corners, some of the corners remain unchanged. Also, the large blue shape on the right will not change at all.
i'm making a map showing arid areas, dry areas, plain, mountains. i'm using the live paint bucket function with great difficulty. i'm using this for first tim, i have almost zero experience in illustrator . i'm stuck now. the greean area on the left can't be isolated out, or lets say cut paste as a new individual shape. I'm using illustrator cs5
I want the stroke above the elipse to be an eyelid for a cartoon. I want the part of the elipse to disappear that meets the stroke "eyelid" (see the left image).
I want the eyeball elipse to disappear as it goes into the eyelid stroke.
I have a pretty simple design. Some text and shapes all expanded and turned into outlines. I have one shape that was created by using a clipping mask. I am putting a vector distress pattern over the whole design (like I usually do and it works fine) well I merge them together and everything is completely fine except the shape created with the clipping mask it disappears..
more info: i actually released the clipping mask and I am still having the same problem with this object, it disappears when merged with the vector distress pattern.
Since the release of Photoshop CC the "Live Shape Properties" has basically chosen when it does and does not want to show up.... sometimes I even create a new shape to replace the old one and it STILL does not show the live shape properties... how hard is it to make sure the options are available at all times? I opt for a discount since this is a half working application and the features you highlighted barely function...
I have a building plan that needs to be in 1:100. When put my drawing into the new layout its there. Then when I change the scale, my drawing disappears.
What i have is a low polymodel that's quite small in scale, i'm modelling around a higher poly model, when i zoom in, the viewport clipping kicks in and parts of the model disappear, so i cant work on the small details. What i need to do is scale up both my low poly and high poly, work on the small details and scale it back down.
In maya there are multiple solutions to this; The first and most obvious would be to increase the near clip in the camera attributes.
The second would be to freeze transformations on the low and high poly, scale up the model, work on it and then scale it back to the value of 1.
The third would be to put both the low and high poly models into a group, scale up the group, work on the model, return the group back to its default size and ungrouping. Personally i would use this method to preserve the original scale values on the low and high poly models.
Is there a way of doing any of the above in 3ds max?
After creating a group of rounded rectangles.. randomly they will change from having editable Live Shape Properties to just the Masks Properties --- the Live Shape little icon/button in the top of the Properties panel is missing and only shows the Masks icon. Eventually all the rounded rectangles will lose the editable Live Shape Properties. No rhyme or reason.
I want to put it in CC forum, since it's a CC problem.I'm having the same issues as these people, where the properties panel doesn't always show you the live shape options and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
I am using map 3d 2011 and i am running into issues with the use of multi-leaders. I have a dwg with a few shape files in it and I have added multileaders to the dwg. When I save, close and then reopen the file the multileaders show up for a brief second during the loading process but then they disappear. All my settings are correct (layers, visibility, scales) as far as the leaders go but I can't figure out what the heck is going on. I tried adding another, select similar and only the one shows up that I just added. Saved the file and reopened. Same thing, the leader I just added shows up with the others for a brief second and then "poof" gone!!!
I created a selection, filled it and put text on top of it in a 72 ppi file and copied the group to an image with much higher resolution. I transformed the shape and text to make it bigger. Does doing this affect quality?
I imported a shape file drawn with a utm signature with the dbf and shx files associated with it.The field map looks exactly like it is supposed to but when i dimension different places the dim are in what i think are utm measurements( ie .0069).When i draw a line at say 200 feet the line is astronomical in comparison. I can't seem to figure out where to change the scale.I have never used the auto map before and am using the trial version.
I'm working on I've drawn a dragon using the pen tool. Now I want to use the live paint tool, however, after I select my dragon it won't let me "make" the live paint. I also can't expand, not sure if that's related.
I tested another simple drawing and was able to both expand and use live paint, so it must be something weird that I've done to my dragon.
I have a trial version of CS6. Also attaching a screen cap.
I put rounded corners [from the decor part] onto my image, and when i saved it, it came up with these extra bits at the corners; which make the image actually rectangle. How i can get rid of them? i just want the plain round corners. =x
i have a layout that i made into a PDF to show my client. the layout has a pattern and when you view the PDF, the pattern moves around as you Zoom in and out of the pdf. i have never experienced this before.
i tried saving with different settings to different versions but they all do it.
i have layers off, and illustrator editibility off.
edit: the pattern only moves when viewed in Preview. still i don't understand shouldn't be doing it.
In Illustrator CC every time I click Merge Paint I need to go back to Live Paint > Gap Options > and reset Gap Detections to "Paint stop at Small Gaps". Despite I set "Paint stop at Small Gaps" as my default many times now, it seems that Illustrator CC does reset it automatically to "Custom Gaps" and therefore Merge Paint doesn't work correctly. A nightmare, I am forced to use Illustrator CS6!
I did a live trace and it did pretty well. The image I traced was fairly simple. But I ended up with a lot of extra pieces in what should be a solid color. I've tried Select > Object > Stray points, but that didn't work. I have large area that I want to be one solid piece. Within this area, there are lots of little "pieces" that are the same color... How do I merge them all into one piece? I tried "Unite" in the pathfinder, and that didn't work, either.
In case I'm not being clear, basically, I want to do what the "smooth" function does in Photoshop... but in Illustrator.
Is it better to use Live Trace with images that have no color and are just black and white and to apply all color in AI with Live Paint bucket or can you get good results with images that have color when using Live Trace?
I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
What does it mean when Illustrator v.15.1.0 ceases to contract a shape using offset paths and will only expand a shape? Seems like only yesterday I could render both ways. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday! Why would it suddenly stop funtioning?
In CS5 there was an option to use the Live Paint Bucket on a newly traced image and there were also gap options to close gaps when doing this. I do not see these options in CS6. Where are they?
