I can't get started - I have downloaded GIMP 2.8 but can't get it running as I get this error message:
"USER Installation Failed.
The GIMP user installation failed; see the log for details. It appears that you are using GIMP for the first time. GIMP will now create a folder named '/Users /andrzejnowosielski/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8' and copy some files to it.
Creating folder '/Users/myname/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8'..Cannot create folder '/Users/myname/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8': Permission denied" myname is my full name not myname......
I am using a Max with OSX version 10.7.5..I have checked all the relevant folders and made them all Read Write..I have tried making the relevant folders manually and re-starting GIMP but same message.
Start up Gimp and get an error message as follows:
Unable to open swap file. GIMP has run out of memory and cannot use the swap file. Some parts of your images may be corrupted. Try to save your work using different filenames, restart GIMP and check the location of the swap directory in your Preferences.
When I check preferences, the path to the swap file is not correct. My path is user to Application to Application Support to Library to Gimp.
I'm using Lion, and to install the Leopard version of GIMP. I'm getting an error message, and don't know what action to take:
Unable to open a test swap file.
To avoid data loss, please check the location and permissions of the swap directory defined in your Preferences (currently "/Users/myname/Library/Application Support/Gimp").
Open an .AI file saved on a netapp or windows shared directory with full permissions (prior to saving I noted that all security groups are intact in file properties as we have 2 for read and write access)Make any changesTry to save and get the prompt: Can’t save preview, but all other information was saved successfully. The file couldn’t be found. ID = -43 (file is now corrupted and looking in security group file properties the 2 security groups designated for read and write access for the directory is now gone and shows an unknown security group????)
Save as works without a problem. Try to press save again and get This file has been modified outside Illustrator. Do you want to continue?Continue and prompted This file cannot be foundObviously the file preview icon goes from a thumbnail of the file to a generic iconWhen I try to open the file I get: Can’t open the illustration. The file is locked or in use.It led me to believe the issue was either OS X or CS5.5. I was able to open the file fine on Windows Illustrator CS5.5 make a slight change and resaved (which fixed the file and opens again in OS X and read/write security groups show up again?)Optionally, I was also able to fix the file to where I could open it in OS X by simply giving myself Read/Write access to the file from Get Info
Notes:No issues with the same file in 10.7.x.
I've tested on all available Mac Pro / MacBook Pro machines and issue doesn't seem to happen on MacBook Pro retina?Photoshop and InDesign not affected
We are trying to secure our drawings using regular NTFS folder/files permissions on a Windows 2003 server. The goal is to let users save changes to dwg files but NOT delete files or move them. We are trying to prevent accidental deletion of files.
We have created a group which is assigned all rights on files except "Delete". Unfortunately, this does not work because upon saving a file, ACAD deletes the original file of a network drive and recreates it with new/updated one. AutoCAD requires the "Delete" trigger.
Is there a method or a work around we could use to aid us on the task? All other programs like Creative suite, Office applications, various graphic programs work wonderfully with the permissions in place but not AutoCAD Architecture 2008. From what i've read this issue dates back to the dates of AutoCAD 14.
Our files are very valuable and there are LOTs of them. We can't be the only firm that values their files and not have dealt with this issue.
I didn't know what to expect but when performance went from bad to worse and each click on LR resulted in (not responding), I became very concerned. I did research and couldn't find anything so I looked at my swap file and tweaked it. I added swap files to all of my drives, physical and virtual. For now that seems to be working.
I'm working on a rather large subdivision (not uncommon, certainly used to a longer-than-normal load time) but have found one of our XREF files to be bringing drawing loads to a screeching halt. We have XLOADCTL set to 2, which explains the creation of the temporary file.
I have previously gone into the file and reset the scale list, which speed things up by about 50%, but today it appears to be doing the same thing.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from becoming a more serious problem? Can I add some sort of SCALELISTEDIT reset command to the acaddoc.lsp file?

I'm trying to create a bmp file from my xcf file (Gimp OSX 2.8.4). I do this by exporting it and choosing bmp as the file extension. When I look a the new image in Mac Preview, it looks OK. The image displays properly and the file type shows "Windows bitmap image" as its kind. All seems well...
However, when I try to use this file in OpenGL, it renders in green (its an image of natural wood). So what's up? I go to the command line and type "file wood.bmp" and the response is "wood.bmp: data". It should say "wood.bmp: PC bitmap, Windows 3.x format, 128 x 128 x 12" (or something similar).
Somehow this file has not been created quite correctly.
I am trying to create a PDF/X-1a that is exactly the size (dimensions) of the .xcf file (15x12in.). There are two ways to do this that I have found at this point. Export does save the correct size, but I can't find a way to change to the x-1a format, or print to PDF which does save the correct format but doesn't save the correct size. When printing to PDF I go into Preferences>Adobe PDF Settings and change the Default Settings to PDF/X-1a and change the Adobe PDF Page Size to 15x12 (custom created page size). When it prints the PDF ends up as an 8 1/2 X 11 file.
Two notes:
1. When I go to Page Setup in Gimp I cannot set a custom page size . 2. The only reason I need the X-1a format is because when I export to a standard PDF the ink density for the black goes above the 240% limit that I need for the printers. If I could find a way to get the ink density results I need without saving in the X-1a format it would be just as good.
When I try and create, move or copy an image file, I receive an error message indicating that ?...I don?t have sufficient permissions...? Does anybody know how to overcome this issue?
My problem is with Vista Ultimate and the printing picture package. When I go to save new picture package templates, Vista gives me a message that I do not have permission to save to that file. If I right click on the Photoshop Icon when I open it and open it as an administrator (which I am listed as an administrator in the users section anyway) it will then allow me to save my picture package templates, but then I lose the ability to drag files into the template or into Photoshop. I am restricted to opening everything from the menu, which is a real time eater. Otherwise everything seems to be smooth with Vista.
I am using OSX 10.8.3, Adobe Bridge CS5 and Photoshop CS5.I ran repair permissions from disk utility, and now the results are inconsistent in that if I use bridge to drag & drop a file from the desktop to a folder on the desktop it work ok. but is I dark and image file from the HD to a folder on the hard disk I get an error message that I dont have permissions to do that. (image 1)
and if I dark an image file that is on the desk top to the hard disk, but not to a folder on the hard disk, I get a circle with a strike through (not allowed) (image 2. dam the screen capture as that cursor and that circle with astrike through did not capture, but I am trying to drag the image to the hard disk not a folder)
problems is, Photoshop is running so smooth now, I dont want to have to re install it all, as I have to spend time getting the filters right (as there is some incompatibilities between and extensis extensions and NIK filters and Onone filters.
Had a problem with my RAID1 HD's and windows 7 went to check and repair my HD. There were some things with indexes, related to lightroom fixed. Kind of logical as I was working in Lightroom when the problem occured.
After restarting Lightroom 4 refuses to open my catalog. It states the catalog is not writable and cannot be opened, could be because of incorrect permissions. Strangely enough, although I run a backup weekly there is no backup folder on my HD, or better said only a backup folder with a file that's a couple of years old. No use. (should have checked this earlier... obviously)
How to get my catalog back up and running again? I can open Lightroom with a new catalog, but then I've lost a lot of work...
the basics: Windows7 home premium, Lightroom 4, catalog on internal HD which is in RAID1 (mirror), lightroom programme on SSD
I have all the permissions (administrator), catalog file is not 'read-only', run as administrator did not make any difference.
I am trying to install a script (.mxp) (Windows). When I double click the .mxp file the Adobe Extensions Manager CS4 opens but I get a permissions error. "You do not have appropriate permissions.." I am the administrator and I have made sure the file has full permissions. I have tried to move the file to different locations also.
I am in the process of deploying CorelDraw X5 to about 20 users in my company. The options I have available are to use Group Policy, SCCM 2007, or a couple of 3rd party programs. The specific users which this deployment will be advertised to will basically be using it as a CDR / EPS viewer only. In fact, we do not want them to be able to edit anything and save or export it.
Given the above, her are my two questions:
1. What are my options for deploying CorelDraw over the network? I saw the trial uses an installer, but have the image of the disc which I may use too. Neither have MSI files, though.
2. Are there any methods for controlling security of certain users / workstations on what the can or cannot do in CorelDraw? An administrative template for Group Policy would be ideal. We really just don't want them to be able to save - however - the file must be viewed, then sent by them so the idea of a Share set as Read Only wouldn't work.
I'm unable to point CS6 to the alternate scratch drive despite changes in permissions. I noticed my boot drive (C:) is actually Disk 1, not Disk 0, and my scratch disk (internal) is Disk 0. I can select an external drive (I:) with no issues, but that is a 2TB drive I use for data. So, I'm curious whether the mix-up with the boot disk order has anything to do with CS6 not being able to access the disk I want to designate as the scratch disk?
I have done a photomerge in PS CS6 of two birds in flight as the wings are clipped. The images merge nicely but the problem is that the blurred bird has been placed on top of the sharp bird, i.e. the top layer (bird with blurred eye) is blocking the bottom sharp bird. I have clicked and dragged the bottom layer to the higher position on the layers panel but the images do not swap positions.
i've to list all layers and objects in the drawing. I've got 2 checkedlistbox, one for layers, the second for objects.I've got 2 buttons, one up, one down, for swaping order. I've no problem with objects, but it seems a little more complicated with layers.I use this code to swap:
Using tr As Transaction = db.TransactionManager.StartTransaction Dim id1 As ObjectId = listLayerID(CB_List_Layer.SelectedIndex)Dim id2 As ObjectId = listLayerID(CB_List_Layer.SelectedIndex + 1) Dim first As DBObject = tr.GetObject(id1, OpenMode.ForWrite)Dim sec As DBObject = tr.GetObject(id2, OpenMode.ForWrite) first.UpgradeOpen()first.SwapIdWith(id2, True, True) tr.Commit() end using
id1 is the ID of the first layer, and id2 the id of the second layer. ListLayerId contains IDs of all layers. CB_List_Layer is my CheckedListbox. When is swap 2 layers, it don't swap objects in the layers. (ex : What i've got now :
Obj1, Obj2 in layer0 and Obj3, Obj4 in layer1 SWAP Obj1,obj2 in layer1 and obj3,obj4 in Layer0.It's not what i want. I want : Obj3,Obj4 in layer1 and Obj1,Obj2 in layer0)
I have one pic of my mom and dad. I just want to swap the heads of my mom and dad. I keep trying and I have created a new layer. But when I cut my dads head and move it and then try to cut my moms head I can't go back to my dad's head and move it to where I want it.
Basically at some point or another, maya swaps back to the default hotkey layout. Im not quite sure how or why. Sometimes it takes an hour before the problem arrives, other times minutes. Its not permanent tho, restarting the app will fix it.
I've tried deleting second language, installing keyboard software, searching for alternative pref. files etc., and no, capsLock is not on ^^.
I have 2 files and I'd like to copy a titleblock from a template drawing and use it to replace an existing titleblock on an in progress drawing. The titleblock on the in progress drawing has attributes, and I'd like to keep them when I put in the new titleblock. The attribute tag names between the 2 titleblocks are the same.
I do not know the exact names of the titleblocks, only that they contain the words "title block" somewhere in their name.
I've developed for Inventor for a while now, but I'm completely new to AutoCAD. How might I go about this?
I believe the basic steps would be something like this:
1. Identify which object to copy from template sheet.
2. Save that object to memory
3. Identify object to replace in existing drawing
4. Copy attributes and get position of existing titleblock
5. Delete existing titleblock
6. Insert new titleblock and copy in attributes
I've taken the Autocad tutorials, and I've searched for relevant posts on ThroughTheInterface. Is there someplace else to look which might give a more in-depth example of what I'm trying to accomplish?
I have VideoStudio 11 running under an XP Virtual PC.
I'm sure that there is a command to delete temporary files but I can't for the life of me remember how to access it.
Alternatively, would it be easier to go straight to the VideoStudio working folder. I've just had a look there and was staggered to find no less than 24GB of various files in the CvtedTitle folder.
I was in the middle of croping a document and I realized I had inches instead of pixels. It looks like it was writing a file 600 in by 600 in 300 dpi. I had to hard boot my pc. After that I lost 20 gigs from my hard drive. What type of file photoshop writes?
I am using Revit 2014. My temporary dimensions do not show. When they do, they only show on one side. I have gone to Manage>Additional Settings>Temporary Dimensions, and tried the different options. It is making it very difficult to place things right now. Is there an all on button I can push? I have also tried closing and re-opening the file, turning off the computer, etc. They were available for use yesterday morning and have not worked since.
