Photoshop :: Where Are The Temporary Scratch Files...
Dec 1, 2008
I was in the middle of croping a document and I realized I had inches instead of pixels. It looks like it was writing a file 600 in by 600 in 300 dpi. I had to hard boot my pc. After that I lost 20 gigs from my hard drive. What type of file photoshop writes?
I was working in Photoshop CS5.1 (OS X 10.7.5) and the original image I started with was saved in TemporaryItems, long story short I spent 4 hours working on an illustration and saving the .psd files versions in the same TemporaryItems folder, planning to move all the files tonight. Just came back to it and the files are gone! I may cry pixel tears, desperately running out of swear words.
Many of the users on my school network cannot save their Photoshop files to a specified folder. Instead the files are automatically saved to User/Library/Caches/Temporary Items folder.
I've changed the File Handling Preferences with no results in changing this issue. Since a couple users did not experience this problem, I'm wondering if it might be a permissions problem.
I have VideoStudio 11 running under an XP Virtual PC.
I'm sure that there is a command to delete temporary files but I can't for the life of me remember how to access it.
Alternatively, would it be easier to go straight to the VideoStudio working folder. I've just had a look there and was staggered to find no less than 24GB of various files in the CvtedTitle folder.
I've been trying to clean up some things on my PC concerning Lightroom. I just came across 3 files in my Lightroom folder, the folder where my Catalog file and the Preview folders are located.  Those 3 files are:  Temporary Import Data.db, 40 kb, modified 09/03/12
I'm using Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer and Adobe Bridge CS6 concurrently. If I have Bridge open to the same folder as PSE Organizer and I do an "Add captions ..." operation to a group of files selected in the Organizer, then there is a very good chance that PSE Organizer will rename one or more files to OriginalFileName_edTMP-1.extension and leave the renamed file in the directory rather than completing the update and returning the file(s) to their original name. In most cases my original files are Nikon .nef files with .xmp sidecar files, but I've also seen this happen with .psd files. The .nef files are generally large, averaging 35 Mb per .nef image and the .psd files are usually over 100 Mb. If PSE Organizer and Bridge are open to different folders then Organizer does not leave the renamed file. logical threading error in PSE Organizer where it does not consider that another application may be monitoring the folder and also opening the files, which is what Bridge does when it discovers that a file has changed (the addition of a caption changes the file contents.) This was also a defect in PSE Organizer 10.
On my system I have small(330Mb) virtual RAM-disk R: . My system configured so that all temp-files, cookies, cache... all placed on this disk R: . Now - I try to work with Photoshop CS. I know, that 330Mb isn't enough for work files for Photoshop, so I try to tell it: "Use real hard-drive C: for you scratch file(s)". For that I went to "Preferences->Plug Ins & Scratch Disks" and set _ALL FOUR_ scratch disks to "C:". All the same - when I start my work Photoshop CS create it's temp file(name like "Photoshop Temp4122672") exactly on R:, not on C:! Of course after 10min. of work I have stable error: And so - how to force PS to use C: as storehouse for temp-files?
I've been working on a large file (1.02Gb, yes it is large (A1) with lots of necessary layers) that has initially been saved as the new large image .psb format. However the issue is that in CS3 and CS4, when trying to open the file up it creates absolutely massive scratch disc files that fill up my (80Gb) scratch disc. As a result the file will not open. However when I open it in CS2, the scratch disc files are nowhere near as big and the file opens up OK. Is this just a CS3/CS4 issue or am I missing something?
No one of the used files are bigger than 20MB in file size. When opening the file, my empty hard drive space (40GB of free space) decreases to ZERO. Which temporary file on earth can be 40GB big? My system is an i Mac with 24GB RAM. How can this happen? Â EDIT: I just found out this might be the so called scratch-disc. But anyway, how can a file take up this much space? Photoshop has a allocated RAM space of 16GB on my system.
If I have 4 Scratch disks does photoshop use all scratch simultaneously or does it wait for the first scratch to fill up before it starts to use the next one ?
when using keyboard short cuts to swap between tools ps cs6 now defaults to only a "temporary switch" i.e. it reverts back to the previously selected tool imediatly after I release the key. I can not get the tool to stick on the new selection unless I use the mouse to manually select the new tool.  How do I stop this from happening? I want to use short cuts to switch between tools and have it stick.  I have looked else where in the forums and have not found a solution that has worked. Checked that my keyboard is in the proper language, reinstalled photoshop, and double checked every setting I can think of, all to no avail.  This is a new problem, I have not made any recent hardware changes, everything had worked fine until today.
I need to mark an area that will be filled with equipment in the future. I ned this area to come up in an interference check. Â I have created a mass to represent the area but you can't clash a mass. What object I could use to represent the area but can be clashed
I am using Revit 2014. My temporary dimensions do not show. When they do, they only show on one side. I have gone to Manage>Additional Settings>Temporary Dimensions, and tried the different options. It is making it very difficult to place things right now. Is there an all on button I can push? I have also tried closing and re-opening the file, turning off the computer, etc. They were available for use yesterday morning and have not worked since.Â
I have a preview control on a window that I want to display temporary custom entities that the user can build before adding to the current working document. Is there a way to create a temporary document and database that I can show in my preview control? The Preview Control was created with the guidance of the BlockView.net sample.
What I mean by temporary, is a document / database that cannot be displayed or edited in the editor window.
I was wondering if there is any way to temporarily mark measurements that I have made with the Measure function so I can go back and start a line at that point. Each time I use Measure, the information disappears when I go to another function.
On my iMac's finder there are many temporary subfolders in my LR folder that do not show up in LR. They are named "Temporary Folder" followed by a long string of alphanumeric characters. Presumably they were created by LR as part of its operations (importing?). Can I erase these or will that disturb the Catalog? If they will, how can I remove them or should I just leave them alone? They are really piling up.
When I'm working on a project, I sometimes create bits of artwork that I may or may not want to use in the piece. However, when I move the items off the canvas, they pretty much disappear. Is there any way to store items "off canvas" and have them visible for quick selection?
One option, I guess, is to make the whole Edit preview area the canvas and only crop the item to final size when I'm done, but that seems wonky.
I have system with the Intel HD Grahics 2000/3000 chip set. When I select certain tools, I get driver failure followed by instant recovery. Happens ONLY with Autocad 2012.
I'm placing lighting fixtures in an RCP, and after I place the light and select it, I only get temp dims in the vertical direction on screen, not the horizontal. Before I click to locate the object, the temp dims in both directions show up, but as soon as I click to place, only one tmep dim shows up. Â If I place an aligned dimension from a wall face to the center of the light, and then selct the light, the dimension is not activated to adjust the distance. If I want to move the light, I have to drag it - I cannot input the distance into the dimension. Â This makes trying to center a light in a room, or a set distance froma wall, next to impossible and extremely annoying and ecessively time comsuming.
When I place an aligned dimension along a wall in plan view and then select the wall, the temporary dimension does not appear to allow me to resize the wall.
I recently acquired AutoCAD 2007 LT and I'm trying to modify the temporary override keys the way I like them, and I can not get them to modify, or to work in their current settings.
I found the entry for the topic 'To modify a shortcut key.' It has 8 steps. I got through the first five, but the sixth I can not get to work as they describe it.
When I go to enter the new temporary override key, nothing appears in the entry window. For example, I am trying to set Endpoint Snap to CTRL-E. (It is currently SHIFT-E.) This is how I had it in 2002 and it shouldn't be a problem. But when I type it in, nothing appears. In fact, no matter what I type, nothing appears unless I press 'shift' first.
I also can't get them to actually work. If I'm in the Line command, and I turn off the running Osnap, and I press Shift-E, it does not actually create an endpoint snap for me, it just types a capital E in the command line, which does nothing for me.
I am developing a plugin that retrieves data from external system and fills the data in text ranges. The text ranges have a "type" associated with it. I want to display the type in illustrator above the text range (like a title), but should not be saved as part of the file - it should be dynamically displayed "for info only". I have seen a plugin doing exactly same thing. See the image below - has been rendered by the plugin I mentioned. The "Type" heading with border appears dynamically. If I switch to another window and switch back, the border and "Type" heading is redrawn. When exported, heading does not appear in the image. When saved, heading does not get saved. There are no additional layers, and the heading is not selectable. How can I achieve the same? Â Looks like the heading and border is around the layer that consists of textrange.
Before I pull the trigger on deleting the "Removed" photos from my collection and from the file, is there an easy to show all the photos in the collection with the Removed photos (as it is now showing) then without the Removed photos? In other words, I'd like to see what's left after I click Delete Removed Photos.
I'm trying to override the F9 key with an AutoLISP subroutine invocation. Â However, though I have redefined the Temporary Override Key (associated with the F9 key) in the CUI editor, the F9 key nevertheless still triggers the default Toggle Snap Mode behavior. Â So it's not accepting the redefinition even though the new definition persists between AutoCAD sessions.
