View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around with this shape, mostly based on ideas from the skull medallion tutorial over at Gimp users, and was wondering what is causing the white jagged line that appears along the bottom of the wing and also to the outer edges. It only appears after I have run the Lighting Effects filter.It's not too obvious on the full size image of the batman type symbol, but becomes quite noticeable when a section is enlarged.

it is putting all punctuation at the start of the sentence.
Example i want to type
What i get is: (exclamation mark at the start of the sentance)
So far I have:
Reinstalled photoshop
Changed the language prefs from East Asian and Middle Eastern (both give the same result)
Trashed all my prefs
Checked other apps (all fine)
Used different typefaces (all act the same)
I've croppsed and resized an image
I try to put text over it and then move that text
I just can't move the text
Instead the image layer moves
Suddenly, gimp won't start unless I call it from the command line using sudo.
So far, I've done this:
Synaptic>completely remove gimp and gimp-data
deleted gimp2.6 folder from /home/user/
reinstall
Sudo apt-get remove --purge gimp gimp-data
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get install gimp gimp-data
After the second install, looked for gimp folder in user directory to double check file and folder permissions...it wasn't there.
I have Gimp portable 2.6 and have used it a lot on Windows XP. Now I have a box with Windows 7 on it and, well, it failes to start.
It come up with "gimp2-6.exe has stopped working" and gives me the option to debug. I go the the "Visual Studio Just-In-time debugger' and the message is "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in gimp-2-6.exe [448]" but am stuck there.
What can I do to make gimp portable work on Windows 7
I was moving my Layer box lower, and suddenly it went under the bar where it shows your windows! I don't know how to move it again!
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs stated in the thread, my Gimp program had just started to stop loading today, after it was working fine earlier this afternoon. I either select the program itself or an xcf file, and it starts to load with the green bar and everything. At about 3/4 into loading, right when it gets to "Tool Presets", windows informs me the program has stopped working and says it will notify me if it finds a solution.
I run the program on Windows 8.
I can't find out how to set the start folder for 2.8.In 2.6, I could edit the shortcut properties to change the directory that Gimp starts in.
When I want to load or save images, I'm in the directory I want to be in. I then have the option of pressing 'recently used' if I want.
In 2.8 I can still edit the shortcut properties, but when I go to open a file, I'm already in the 'recently used' directory. Unfortunately, that's not where I usually want to be, and I can't find a way to get the old behaviour back.
I did a complete uninstall of GIMP 2.6. Then a complete install of GIMP 2.8. No errors during installation. When I run GIMP, Windows draws a window frame with the title "GIMP Startup" but the inside of the window remains unpainted (whatever was behind it remains visible). This window frame exists for maybe one second and then closes. I have waited a long time but nothing continues. Task Manager confirms that no application is running. I uninstalled, downloaded again, reinstalled (even just a "compact" installation), but same thing.
System Info:
Windows XP Home SP3, up to date
2 GB RAM
Paging file initial 3058 MB, max 6116 MB
Goes straight to a black box that says not responding then gets to looking for data files and then windows takes over and searches for a solution before shutting the whole works down. Takes about 30 secs.
I just installed this because 2.6 was doing the same thing.
I am using Gimp version 2.6..At the start-up it has the "Paintbrush Tool." I want it to have the "Move Tool" immediately after or when the program starts.
Having the Paintbrush Tool at start-up is inconvenient because if I click on the image it paints where I click. Then I have then got to undo the paint.How can I set GIMP so that the Move Tool is the default mode when it starts?
Is there a way I can set this with a switch appended to the "...gimp.exe" shortcut? Or any way that I can set it at all?

I tried view snap to grid, but this only affects the end selection of blend tool and not the start.
I am running into trouble with the mosaic filter under distortion.
I am unable to change the offset of where the tiles start, and right now they get drawn in the middle of the image. That way, they get cut off mid way through when they reach the edge of the image.
I can't easily remedy this by cutting out the center, and moving the halved pieces together because they're different tiles and have different colors.
I think I can just move it over, and do another seperate mosaic on the missing region but I'd really like to be able to change that.
Is Kaspersky Anti-Virus interfering with Gimp start up??? ever since I installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013, Gimp takes more than 20 minutes too start up, it searches for data files for more than 20 minutes straight before my image is opened in Gimp ever since Kaspersky was installed!

1. reinstall all redist(x64 & x86).
2. reinstall .Net 4.0
3. Use CCleaner for Registry error.
4. chckdsk for error and fix.still error so I've gone through this.
5. I uninstall Autocad 2014 completely, uninstall it manually one by one,deleted left over folder of autodesk or similar software to it, deleted its registry keys.just like the instruction on how to remove autocad completely in autodesk, I just followed it all. [after Reboot]
6 I Re-install it and still the problem persist.

Ive recently upgraded to the new GIMP 2.8 and I cant seem to save files as anything other than gimp project files. I open the extension box to select the file type and there just isnt the option anymore. Do i have to reinstall GIMP or should I revert back to 2.6? I wouldnt think they would get rid of the ability to save in different formats so there must be a problem somewhere.
