I just downloaded Gimp yesterday and it is way different than the version I had on my last computer. I have things figured out for the most part, the main function I can't seem to find is how to "Simplify" paths. It seems like I used to use CTRL L or something like that and it would smooth out my lines a bit.

and i would like to make it look like image 2
As you can see the second image uses only about 7 or 8 different colors and the outer lines are nice and smooth not stuttering.
Is there a way how i can change the first image to something like the second one, maybe something like replace 10 different colors which are similar to each other with only 1?
I tried and played with the options (bucketfill, posterise, or the cartoon option from artistic menu, increase contrast, brightness etc...
Is there an option to smoth the outer lines etc? i just want the dog, the rest of the background is not so important.
Do you know about a a torturial of how to use paths in Gimp 2.8?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a PSD which has a layer with a path (vector) on it. In Photoshop this can be manipulated as a path/vector. In GIMP it is just treated as a bitmap. I can see how I can draw new paths, but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the imported path. Is there something I need to do to make it recognize the paths?

I download the Gimp 2.8 and have a lot of prolems with it.... Today I can´t find the history of the paths. Where is it? I can´t use path two times if I need. Sweet Gimp 2.6...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to learn how to use the paths tool to edit thing's out and what not - whenever i try to make the last connection though it just turns into a curve automation thing and seems to mess thing's up?

I can't get the path tool to give me handles. I create a path with two points and when I grab the segment and drag it the anchors move with it. This used to work fine where the anchors would stay and the dotted lines and handles would pop out and I could manipulate the handles. I recently reloaded my system so has something changed? I'm using the latest stable Debian and it looks like Gimp 2.6 is loaded.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've worked out how to use paths, so I can make text appear along a curve which is great. My problem is that I have a logo and I want text curving around the top of it, and then some text curving around the bottom (curving upwards). There is more text on the top curve so it fills the entire path, but the text at the bottom is shorter and so it doesn't reach the end, it justifies to the left of the path. How do I position it so that it aligned to the centre of the path (it doesn't necessarily have to take up the entire length of the path, I just want it to be central to the logo above it.

View 16 Replies View RelatedI cannot bring up Layers, Channels, or Paths. Running Gimp 2.6.10 on a Windows 7 machine. Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs...Layers or Channels or Paths does not bring up a new dialog window. Also there is nothing in Windows...Recently Closed Docs
This occurs regardless of image file opened. Not sure how long this has been the situation as I have not been using gimp on the computer where this problem is occurring for a couple months. Am not an advanced user though have used it occasionally for years. All other Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs... actions bring up window boxes normally. Tab does toggle display for the Toolbox etc. Just Layers, Channels, or Paths have an issue and I suspect it may have occurred because they were sharing the same window box. I did reset Preferences.
I am able to readily create layers on top of a base image but without the dialog box, only have access to the last one created. Also can merge down the last new layer or flatten the image. My suspicion is gimp may be displaying the dialog box at XY coordinates beyond my monitor screen displayable coordinates. There is a configuration file that saves the last used settings that I can simply delete?
How do you get the 'Layers, Chanells and Paths' tool bar to appear. I am running Xubuntu 12.04, Gimp 2.6.12 and it does not appear. Can not upgrade to 2.8 because Ubuntu Software Center does not have it. I need this sub-window to wotk with test-along path.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is a most convenient way to export selected paths to SVG file? GIMP provides only 2 options for the export: export only one - "active" - path, or export all paths. It's not very useful in my case. I have an image with several layers and a bunch of paths related to different layers. So I need to export only paths which "belong" to a selected layer, so to speak. Of course, I can edit SVG by hands, but I wonder if some decent tools there exist for this task.

I like GIMP and it's stable nature along with everything else... in addition to allot of standard photo editing and graphics creation, I recently used it for some of the animation filters, which are nice.
The only problem I'm having is that when I create a path, or multiple paths, and have them in the paths palette, after I save and close the file that contains the paths, the next time I open that file my paths are gone... completely disappeared.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PS 8 on a Powerbook G4, with other apps such as InDesign CS and i-photo, sometimes printing from a B/W laser printer and doing color with an Epson Stylus Photo RX 600, also scanning from the Epson and photos from two different brands of digital cameras (Casio pocket camera and Olympus standard size).
Color management is a PAIN in the patoot. Every different project demands figuring out a different workflow for color management.
Is color management improved by (easier with) later versions of PhotoShop and/or InDesign? That would be my only reason to upgrade, but if it works I would do it. The printer does fantastic work WHEN I GET THE WORKFLOW RIGHT for the particular project.
where is the option to modify the quality of a surface tham I'm displaying?
For instance if I zoom out, it looks with less polygons, if I zoom in it looks with more polygons.
I've downloaded today some DEM Surfaces with an area of an entire city, and the civil 3d is simplifing automatically the surface... I gave a friend the same surface and on his civil 3d it works very bad without simplifing the surface at all.

I'm making a picture and I have a problem - I need a maximum of 2000 anchor points, and I have about 11k.
Seems like I have a lot of unnecessary points, but when I try to simplify the picture gets all messed up. Any other way to fix this?

Using CS5. I have a solid shape with a hollowed center (see far left image). I applied a transform effect to make it look "3D" by offsetting it slightly 32 times (see middle image. see far right image to see what it looks like selected). I want to simply have the middle image, but without all the paths and lines - I just I want it outlined. I tried to expand it, group it, pathfinder-add - nothing seems to work.

What is the difference between the Smooth and Simplify tools? Is the Smooth tool the same as Simplify but without the dialog window to set the parameters?
