I have a PSD which has a layer with a path (vector) on it. In Photoshop this can be manipulated as a path/vector. In GIMP it is just treated as a bitmap. I can see how I can draw new paths, but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the imported path. Is there something I need to do to make it recognize the paths?
I'm using GIMP 2.8.6
What is a most convenient way to export selected paths to SVG file? GIMP provides only 2 options for the export: export only one - "active" - path, or export all paths. It's not very useful in my case. I have an image with several layers and a bunch of paths related to different layers. So I need to export only paths which "belong" to a selected layer, so to speak. Of course, I can edit SVG by hands, but I wonder if some decent tools there exist for this task.

I like GIMP and it's stable nature along with everything else... in addition to allot of standard photo editing and graphics creation, I recently used it for some of the animation filters, which are nice.
The only problem I'm having is that when I create a path, or multiple paths, and have them in the paths palette, after I save and close the file that contains the paths, the next time I open that file my paths are gone... completely disappeared.
Do you know about a a torturial of how to use paths in Gimp 2.8?

I have things figured out for the most part, the main function I can't seem to find is how to "Simplify" paths. It seems like I used to use CTRL L or something like that and it would smooth out my lines a bit.

I can't get the path tool to give me handles. I create a path with two points and when I grab the segment and drag it the anchors move with it. This used to work fine where the anchors would stay and the dotted lines and handles would pop out and I could manipulate the handles. I recently reloaded my system so has something changed? I'm using the latest stable Debian and it looks like Gimp 2.6 is loaded.

My problem is that I have a logo and I want text curving around the top of it, and then some text curving around the bottom (curving upwards). There is more text on the top curve so it fills the entire path, but the text at the bottom is shorter and so it doesn't reach the end, it justifies to the left of the path. How do I position it so that it aligned to the centre of the path (it doesn't necessarily have to take up the entire length of the path, I just want it to be central to the logo above it.

This occurs regardless of image file opened. Not sure how long this has been the situation as I have not been using gimp on the computer where this problem is occurring for a couple months. Am not an advanced user though have used it occasionally for years. All other Selecting Windows...Dockable Dialogs... actions bring up window boxes normally. Tab does toggle display for the Toolbox etc. Just Layers, Channels, or Paths have an issue and I suspect it may have occurred because they were sharing the same window box. I did reset Preferences.
I am able to readily create layers on top of a base image but without the dialog box, only have access to the last one created. Also can merge down the last new layer or flatten the image. My suspicion is gimp may be displaying the dialog box at XY coordinates beyond my monitor screen displayable coordinates. There is a configuration file that saves the last used settings that I can simply delete?
How do you get the 'Layers, Chanells and Paths' tool bar to appear. I am running Xubuntu 12.04, Gimp 2.6.12 and it does not appear. Can not upgrade to 2.8 because Ubuntu Software Center does not have it. I need this sub-window to wotk with test-along path.

For example what was once located at W:FilesAutoCAD is now located at W:CorporateAutoCADDrawings. The problem is every time we open an old drawing for the first time we must redirect all of the xrefs to the new location. My question is, is there any way to do this automatically for all drawings when they are opened? Is there a way to tell the software to replace "FilesAutoCAD " with "CorporateAutoCADDrawings"? Is there anyway to tell PS to go to that specified folder when I want to save, and not try to save into the folder where I found the last source picture?
I'm rebuilding the primary project template folder for my company. This folder contains a variety of drawings linked together using Xrefs and such. I'm setting up sheet sets in the plotting of these sheets.
I'm working with 15 different drawings and setting up 130 sheet sets that will each plot 1 layout from each of these 15 drawings. All of the drawings have the same layout names (A1, B1, C1,...,Z5). So, for example, the A1 layout from all 15 drawings is 1 sheet set.
When a new project is started, the template folder is copied and renamed. A known issue is that this new project still links all of the Xrefs back to the original template folder's DWGs. We use a script plus the 'Redir" command to update the Xref paths.
Now I'm noticing that the Sheet sets I've setup are having the same behavior, and I can't seem to find a way to quickly fix the file path of 130 sheet sets with 15 sheets per set.
Also, any faster way to setup the sheet sets I've described above other then individually adding layouts to their respective sheet set. I was hoping there would be a batch type method given that all the layouts have standard names.
Is there a file I can manually edit to add my support file paths? Just had another crash that lost all of them and don't want to have to manually add them one at a time.

I'v seen for exporting a path to illustrator, they mention the File>Export>Export Paths to Illustrator option. When I look under "Export", the only options I get are:
Data sets as files...
Render Video...
Zoomify
I can still drag/cut/paste the path into Illustrator, so I haven't been stopped, but why the export option isn't showing up?
I have files that contain only XREFs, some have up to 20. When I try to use etransmit to share these files, the paths are still looking for the network and not the contents of the zip file.They are all Overlays Full path
