GIMP :: Rotating While Opacity Turned On?
Aug 29, 2011is it possible to rotate a layer in gimp with the opacity turned on?
everytime i rotate something the object becomes a full solid even though i had set it with an opacity.
Photoshop :: Redish Tint That Happens Only In PS CS2/3
Sep 17, 2007I have recently installed CS3 and it seems every picture i throw in there will get a reddish tint to the skin of the person in the photo. Makes everyone look like they have a sunburn. I'm not sure if its some filter that is being applied or what. In the windows preview for this images I do not have this problem. Paint and Adobe Bridge CS3 also do not have this issue.

Jul 6, 2012I just upgraded to version 2.8 from 2.6, but now when i try to use my brushes i had installed they look all jagged.
Apparently anti-aliasing is off for brushes now and i cant figure out where to turn it on again.

Photoshop :: Gray Scales Appear Redish And Print
Mar 2, 2008For some reason my CS3 does not show perfect greys. Even when I convert to grey scale the picture looks a little redish. It also prints like that. Whats going on? Because this has not happened until recently.

Oct 13, 2012I'm trying to restore a photo of my mother's sister that was taken on the day of her high school graduation. It's a group photo but here's the piece showing my aunt's face:

This whole photo had a lot of water (and probably mold) damage but the big problem with this section was that it was stuck to the glass. I managed to soak it off but it tore there, and of course that's exactly the part where my aunt's face was. Fortunately I also have a newspaper clipping showing the same photo:

so I do have a reference to go by. Here's what I'm mainly having trouble with:
1) the figure's left eye (on the right side of the face) - I tried the Clone and Heal tools but it just didn't look good so next I tried copying and pasting the other eye, flipping it horizontally, and rotating it a bit to try to get the angle right (I had to hold a ruler to the screen for that; does GIMP have a way to draw a slanted guide line that could be deleted later?). It's not bad, but it's not great either. That was when I remembered the newspaper clipping. I was going to copy from that, and amazingly they are almost exactly the same size (I measured the height of the face in each one) but being a printed piece it of course has dots and it looks awful when copied and pasted.
2) the skin tones - actually this is a problem with the whole photo; the skin tones range from almost white to very gray (actually all the grays range that way ; it's something I've been working on). But my aunt's face is the worst because it's not consistent, probably because of the tear. I've tried doing a free selection around the face and neck and experimenting with some of the color corrections - Auto Normalize and Equalize, Levels, Curves, Brightness/Contrast - but so far it hasn't worked much.
I can include more pieces, or even the entire photo. I just didn't want to take up any more space; I knew this would be a long post. Just let me know.
I am using 2.6.11 in Windows XP Pro SP3.
GIMP :: How To Restore Old Pictures
Sep 7, 2011I am trying to restore old pictures. Some have scratches on them that I did not noticed until scanned into the computer. There is a cloudy appearance over the subjects in the pictures that I have not been able to get rid of. Is there anything that can be done to the photo before scanning? Is there any feature in Gimp that I can use to make some correction? Clone tool is not useful as there is not a good source.

Oct 14, 2012I can't figure out how to restore the default dock (may not be the correct terminology). This has the tools up top, and then, depending on what tool is selected, some settings on the bottom.
I've been in the windows tab trying to locate the dock and can't. Hitting "tab" on the keyboard opens another singular dock. I would like the original multifunction one that comes on install.
I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it remembered my dock settings.

Oct 8, 2012I have a new computer and want to move the databse catalog over. I backed up in PSE 9 to an external hard drive. I connected to HD to the new computer and tried a resotre catalog. I chose "New Location" since I was going from XP to Windows 7 and was unsure if there would be a conflict with file locations. I also chose "Restore Original Floder Strucure". Very quickly I recieve an error message "Could not restor file .xml". I have run Restore Catalog several times and each time a DIFFERENT FILE receives the error message. I then disabled Norton Anti Virus Auto-Protect. I then disabled several programs running in the background. Same problem. I then copied the Backup Catalog to the new computer and tried to Restore it from there. Same Problem. I have now run a Repair Catalog on the original file. PSE states there is no error. I want to purchas PSE 11, but wanted to install/restore the database with the same version 9 first.

May 13, 2009I have a Plustek OpticFilm 7300 slide scanner. Here's what I want to do: - Create a 4:3 (fixed ratio) frame that I can use to crop the slides. To my knowledge, all of my pictures will benefit from some selective cropping.- Remove dirt specs and lint squiggles from the JPG through software. - Scan slides to JPG, 640x480 pixels, high quality [HQ] (200 - 300 KB/picture).I believe this can all be done entirely within Photoshop, but I haven't been successful in figuring out how. Can anyone briefly tell me the steps needed? Note that I do have other tools (SilverFast, PageManager, VueScan, Irfanview, etc.) which will do all the above, but I've been using these tools and the results have been poor. I've been reading for years now that Photoshop excels in all forms of digital photo processing, so I'd like to learn how do do the task using only CS4! Assuming I get good results, I'll buy the program before my 30-day trial ends (28 days from now) This is an example of the type of slide I'm processing. This picture was taken 42 years ago in Vietnam and was not touched up with software.

GIMP :: How To Restore Layers Or Previously Saved Version Of Saved XCF Image
May 2, 2012I have a capstone lab project due tomorrow for my graphic arts class and I made a HUGE mistake!!! I created an image using 20 something layers and did SAVE AS as a .xcf image (with all layers open). Part of the project was to save in different formats: .xcf (with open layers), a .png, and a .jpeg (optimized). So, I did the first save and then flattened the image to SAVE AS a .png with a different file name.
Long story short, I was tired and had way too many images open at once. When I was closing all of the images I accidentally saved the changes (flatten image) to my original .xcf (with open layers)!!!! Now, my .xcf that is supposed to have open layers only has one layer...the finished project!! I tried going to the file properties to restore a previous version, but it says that no previous versions were found! I also downloaded a norton "unerase" utility, but maybe I am not scanning properly to locate the file!?!

Feb 1, 2006I am batch scanning 35mm slides 15 at a time using an Epson 1680. I have been playing with the various dpi's and scale to find the best settings so I can cut the slides and paste them into Powerpoint for a lecture. What I have been finding is that when I cut the slide from the scanned image (of 15 in the holder) and place it in my powerpoint slide and then enlarge it, it is too blurry.
I have tried enlarging the dpi to 2400 but the computer won't scan it. I seem to get OK images in powerpoint at 90dpi and 800% scale but I really want them sharper.
How can I do this? Is it best to scan the slides individually and not use the holder?
More importantly, although the slides look OK on my laptop how will they look when they are projected onto the big screen. I do't want them to be too blurry.

Aug 18, 2009I am trying to animate a couple slides in to show their motion. I setup each different position in a positional rep in my iam. They work correctly. Next I went to Studio and created an animation that went from one PR to the next. I am using the sequence like PR "A" to "B", then PR "B" to "C", then PR "C" to "D".
The trouble is in studio it does not work like it does in the assembly. Watch both videos to see what I mean. It is difficult to explain without being lengthy.
