GIMP :: Rounding Corners On A Small Logo?
Oct 21, 2012
I have a small logo (92x80 image) that I want to round the corners on. There seems to be two ways to do this. One is the filter/decor method, but this is greyed out in my menu. The other is select/rounded rectangle; I can do this one but I can't get it to complete the procedure. After selecting "rounded rectangle", I can see the dashed lines going around the rounded corners. But I can't get the rounded image to save - it saves as the original rectangle not rounded.
What am I missing? The on-line GIMP manual does not explain what needs done. I tried carriage return after selecting rounded rectangle, but that does nothing. I also tried every crop method I could find. I've spent about three hours trying to get the rounded corners.
I am probably missing something simple. Do I need to create layers - a transparent layer? I am not sure exactly how to do that.

My computer crashed and I lost many plugins. I've searched for the plugin to round corners but can't find the one where you can select the amount rounded by different percentages Seems it was listed in the Effects main drop down menu and was named something like "fix" ? Is there a way to save all your plugins in the even of crash ?

Notice on the left side, the edge is faded to give a 3-D look and on the right side of the artwork itself (ignore the red HD DVD case), it is rounded.
For example I already have the following, and I want to make it look similar to above. I just don't know how to round the corners on one side and give the left edge that faded look.

I often need to create icons at small sizes 6-12 (pts) so that it's easy to copy and paste into InDesign. On small corner areas, the widget disappears. When I scale the vector drawing up, they appear. I can work on them larger and just scale them back down in but was wondering if there was a setting or something to get them to show at the smaller sizes.

Is there a stock filter or one that can be added to GIMP that sort of rounds the edges of sharp parts of an image?
I'm looking for a filter or effect that can round the sharp edges of a bitmap image of a font, to give it that 'Xerox Machine' effect where a sharp font looses it's sharp corners and gets a rounded effect from being copied over and over.
I already tried the 'Gaussian Blur' filter, but that just creates soft edges and not the rounded corners that I'm looking for. The effect that I'm looking for is not fuzzy or blurred, but is more of a 'rounded corners' effect... it can be seen in the attached image that is below.

I'm trying to add a small registered trademark to an existing logo. I have the front and the matte of the logo which I take in to paint. While in paint, I add the registered trademark using the text brush within the graphics option. However, I can't seem to get the matte of the trademark and the existing matte of the logo to show up when I view the matte it's either one or the other - not together. So when I render, I'm not getting both the original logo and the trademark rendered with both mattes. For now, I've just composited the two in Action so I can move forward with my work but I would like to know how to do this in paint.

I just learnt to use Adobe Illustrator , the basics anyway. I am able to manipulate the size of the logo to almost scale in Illustrator. However, when I save the logo in JPEG/PNG for the web its always coming out smaller than i would like it to and i cant seem to get it to the size i want.

For example, if I save a gif, and I set the frame delay to 33ms each (about 30fps), then load that gif into Gimp, it says the layers are set to 30ms each.
Is this a quirk with Gimp or a limitation of the gif format itself?

Someone would like a small 1 inch by 1 inch logo for invoices at 600 DPI. However I understand that illustrator doesnt work in DPI or PPI since it's vector. Would I have to transfer the small image over to photoshop. I did try and save a 1 inch by 1 inch logo at 600 PPI, however when I saved the image it was no longer 1 inch by 1 inch. It had increased significantly in size regardless of what file format I saved the image as.

I'm looking to use script-fu to automate a process I do at work.
What I do is find images, paste them into GIMP, scale them down, and round the corners.
I've been playing around with script fu to make it automatically scale the image and round the corners, but I've run into problems with the image variable needing to be changed each time something is pasted.
Is there a way I can automate this, perhaps some code that will set the image variable to whatever the current window is, or am I stuck doing "manual labor"?

I am trying to stroke a path in a vector image I am making, but how you are supposed to make sharp corners while stroking with the paintbrush.
I know that if I just choose the "stroke line" option, any corners in the path will be sharp instead of rounded, but I need to stroke with the brush so that I can apply brush dynamics. Can you even do this?
^^this is what happens with the brush
^^This is what I need to happen, but with brush dynamics
why is stroking paths so dang hard.

I need to round the top corners of a simple gradient image to use as a header background for a custom web page using a border-radius: 1em.
For some reason I just cannot get rid of the white corners on the image. I used the same
steps given here to create the image with the rounded top corners:
[URL]........
1. Select -> Rounded Rectangle...
2. with Rounded Rectangle selected I used the regular Rectangle select tool to add "square" selection to the bottom of the Rounded Rectangle select.
This is the header background image:Â Â Â
Here is what it looks like on the page so far, as you can see, the radius on the image corners looks consistent with the border:Â Â Â
But if you look at this it appears the image corners themselves are still squared, the white voids are covering the border.

I need to know how to create a border with just the top 2 corners rounded? I saw a video tutorial, but the instructions were not clear at all, and it also paid no attention to details like how to make the the corners the exact same size. I want to use it for my company's marketing emails, so the top 2 corners would be rounded while the bottom will align with my email page
(see att'd sample).

I am having lots of difficulty with this. I'm trying to create a rectangle that is transparent with rounded corners but I need the rounded rectangle outlined. Now I know how to create a rounded rectangle what I am doing for that is the following;
creating an image, selecting add alpha chanel, then selecting rounded rectangle, invert then cut.
The problem is I need the rounded rectangle outlined. When I try to use the paintbrush with stroke it outlines the image but when I go to save it it saves the whole image including the cut corners.
In essence. I just want to make a rounded transparent rectangle. Then have it outlined. This would be for a web page.

With Gimp you can round the corners of a square or rectangle using two functions: the problem is that doing so all four corners will be rounded, while I am interested in only the two upper corners. Here's an example of what I would do.

I'm a furniture maker in Japan, and usually take photos of my work on the road next to my shop. I like the texture of the blacktop. Using Gimp, I'm working up the learning curve, and don't know how to remove the white lines and dirt at the upper corners, and extend the pavement to cover it. I'm hopeful that with Gimp, it can be accomplished.

I am trying to export very small (490 x 121) 1-bit graphics out of GIMP as .pcx files. With my working .xcf pulled up, I go to Mode> Indexed and select "Use black and white (1-bit) palette" from the Indexed Color Conversion box. Then I export my graphic as a .pcx, but the graphic is not 1-bit, it is 8-bit, the file size is around 10k, instead of being around 3-4k like it should be.
I am using GIMP 2.8.0 on a Windows XP box. I've attached my .xcf for reference.

We would like to use Gimp for a small set of image conversion experiments. Unfortunately, the system where we want to install and run Gimp belongs to a US Govt agency, the environment is secure and their data is extremely sensitive. So we need to get their approval before we can install Gimp. To get it, we need to provide information on whether Gimp is "US-based" or "foreign-origin". We don't have a strict definition of what either of these terms means, but I am wondering if you have encountered these questions before. Can you tell me what the geographic origin of the tool is? Do you know of any specific instances of your tool being installed at any US Govt locations with sensitive environments?
