GIMP :: Alter Default Export Location In 2.8 On Windows?
Jul 26, 2012I haven't been able to find a way to alter the default export location in 2.8 on Windows. How to change the workingdirectory on the shortcut, but that didn't work. how to change this? If not can I submit a request? Ideally I thinkthat Gimp should remember the last used location, and/or have a config settings.

Nov 4, 2013Which folder contains the printers that CorelDraw X6 recognizes? I'm trying to install Epilog Laser drivers on a new Win8 laptop, and somehow I have duplicate copies of the same "printer/laser engraver." I'm starting the driver instalation over, and want to remove the duplicate printers in CorelDraw. I've cleaned out all printers in control panel/devices and printers, as well as print drivers. But the duplicate printers remain in Corel X6. I've looked in each Corel folder on my computer it seems, and can't locate it. Would it by chance be a registy file I need to edit

Mar 21, 2013I am trying to create a windows form within iLogic. Everything works except the lines defining the location on the controls. I keep getting the following error: 'New' cannot be used on an interface. The error refers to lines in the code that try to set the control location on the form. (i.e. "button1.Location = New Point(10,10)") Ihave pasted the code below and have it attached as well. I am in Inventor 2013.

VideoStudio :: Can't Create Profile X5 And Windows 8
Nov 30, 2012I upgraded my computer to Windows 8 from Windows XP with a clean install. I've installed VS X5 & SP1 on it. I now find I can't create a custom profile either by copying an existing one or building a new one from scratch. I think Windows 8 is protecting something but not sure.
Make Movie Template Manager
New
select Windows Media Video for file type and enter a name
Select Profile tab
Click Customize button on bottom
Now in Manage Profiles
select a profile then click copy
error message "The profile could not be saved. Restart the encoder and try again"
Try to create new profile upon saving error "Access is denied 0x80070005" then click ok then "An error has occured. If the error continues, consider reloading the session file, starting a new session, or restarting the encoder."Maybe this also happens on Windows 7 but I don't have that. This works fine on Windows XP.

Jul 20, 2013I moved the folder where all the brushes and stuff into the overall gimp folder. Originally the folder with the brushes and stuff was in Documents Settings, however now after I moved it. My brushes don't work. How do I make it so that gimp targets the new location of the folder?

Jul 22, 2012I've been trying the new 2.8 version of Gimp and find I don't like it. Is there a way to disable some of the new features. For example I don't like the use of group layers. I've gotten used to just seeing all of my layers in a single list and being able to move each one independantly if necessary. Is there a way to disable this feature? Second, I really don't like the need to "export" just because I need to change the file type. I'd rather just save in the file name I need it to be in as it has been done in past versions, this ads extra steps for simply saving a file. Can this also be a disabled feature so that I only have to click save and tell gimp what file to save it as? Third I don't like that the text box shows the font, size etc when on the workspace. It gets in the way when I'm trying to adjust the location of the text. I rather it just have the box and control the font size,color etc from the tool box. Is this a feature that can be disabled as well? In otherwords is it at all possible to revert those features to what it was in 2.6 as far as UI. If not I think I'll have to reinstall 2.6 until I have no choice but to update it and just live with these features despite the fact that they actually make what I do problematic.

Nov 6, 2012I completely reinstalled GIMP 2.8 and put Andrew's Script (found here: URL....) into "C/USER/ADMIN/GIMP 2.8/SCRIPTS" (I'm stuck with Windows Vista Home Premium) running on an Acer laptop. Now the "Opacity" and "Brush Size" sliders have shown up where they're supposed to have been on the first install.
My middle mouse wheel used to control brush size - I recently reinstalled my updated Logitech mouse drivers and I'll bet if I go to "Setpoint" in my system tray, I'll be able to configure the mouse wheel from there. That's where I had to go in order to fix the tilt control in Google Earth after I updated the mouse drivers.
I just installed GIMP 2.8, with Andrew's GIMP Script FU and now I can't find the brush opacity slider anywhere (EDIT: Or the brush/eraser/pencil etc SIZE slider - there also appears to be no way to set my middle mouse wheel as the controller for the brush size). I've used GIMP for awhile and I know how to move around but I'm not very good with it.

Part of the change is that we're changing from a pixel reference to a floating point %. However, my ruler options don't include a %. Aside from doing the math manually, is there a way to show a location on an image as a %?

Jul 4, 2013I adjust lots and lots of pix for our ebay auctions. Many items have at least 5 pix so they have the same file name but with a 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. at the end of the file name to distinguish them from each other. Example: eapgcompote1.jpg , eapgcompote2.jpg etc..
The problem that I have with Gimp is every time I save/ export a pic Gimp does not save the last export location and last modified date nor does Gimp offer the ability to select from previously saved items like in PhotoShop. I have to go thru about 5 steps in order to save each pic.

Jun 28, 2013My printer company is insisting that I convert my image to a CMYK profile.
After a bit of googeling it seems that a good generic CMYK profile might be ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc
And I found a utility to to do the conversion (URL]. However this utility wants to know what the source colour profile is. So, what does the GIMP use? I.e. if I create a new .XCF and paste in some images and do a bit of painting etc, and then save it as a .JPG, what profile will it be in?
Is the answer none? But I still need something for this utility. Or is it sRGB? There seems to be several variations.

Jun 13, 2013I was quite surprised this image I found was an indexed color profile... when I was new (and dumb) to Gimp and images in general I used to save transparent gifs rather than transparent pngs... because I didn't know PNGs could be transparent but Gimp would warn me about that it would convert to indexed and I'd lose A LOT of color & clarity... none of my indexed images were very clear nor this colorful... how is it possible to obtain such color and clarity in an indexed color profile like in the image attached?

I want to do this so that the pictures on my computer monitor match as closely as possible to the prints from my local (high-end) print shop. My screen is Spyder calibrated.
I'm trying;
Image >>> Mode >>> Convert To Colour Profile >>> (and then from the pop-up box) >>> Convert to ... (and then from the pop-up box) >>> Select Colour Profile From Disk
... and then I select the new .icc (provided to customers on the print shop's website) from a Downloads folder on my local drive.
That all sounds right doesn't it?
It stubbornly remains on sRGB.icc
I've also tried the process in;
Edit >>> Preferences >>> Colour Management
Same result - ignores the selection of a new .icc and remains stuck on sRGB.icc.
I'm desperately trying to colour correct for printing today.

GIMP :: Which Viewer Is Reading Color Profile Correctly
Jun 29, 2013I'm trying to get my head around color profiles. I created a test image with the GIMP...
and then converted it to CMYK (ISO Coated V2 300% ICI) using [URL] (I checked that the color profile data survives the upload, so if you want to try it yourself, click on the image to get it full size and then download it)
Then I compare the two images side by side on the monitor using various viewer apps. Depending on the app that I use, the colors in the converted image either look the same as the original or darker and washed out:
1) SlowView and IrfanView display the colors as identical to the original.
2) Windows photo viewer, windows explorer and the GIMP display the colors as darker.
See screen capture below of the 2 different outputs ...
So maybe some viewer apps are not reading the embedded color profile. But which one is correct? CMYK is for printing and it has a smaller range of colors, but surely if the viewer app is doing things properly, it will read the embedded profile and convert teh pixels so that they will appear very similar to the original.
(In the GIMP settings I have Edit > Preferences > Color management > File settings = 'ask what to do', but it doesnt ask me when I open the image so I am suspicious that it may not be seeing the profile information).
GIMP :: Get Mac Fonts On Windows?
Jul 18, 2013I was wondering (I know it sounds counter intuitive) if its possible to get mac fonts to appear in windows gimp. I'm trying to redo images using gimp on a windows computer that come from .psd files created with a mac. The fonts (though Tahoma in both) don't look remotely similar because mac fonts are different from windows fonts apparently. Is there some sort of workaround I can use in gimp to make them look more similar? The mac font looks so much smoother and "full-er".....I wish i could say the same about the windows one. And yes, I am using the same size, color, and font in both images.

GIMP :: Files Cannot Be Associated To It In Windows 7
Aug 27, 2013As an example I have a PNG file which I right click. The menu appears and I go to properties.
Then click on "opens with" change button. I arrive at the top half of the opens with dialog window.
Here is the bottom half of that same window.
Gimp does not appear in this dialog. So I proceed to browse for the program gimp so that I can include it [ ":\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe"].
I select the gimp binary and return to the first open with dialog. Gimp is still not included in the selection dialog.
Perhaps the installation is not registering the software properly?? Previously I had earlier versions of gimp 32 bit installed and it worked properly.
AutoCad :: Flatshot Location Not At Model Location
May 1, 2013I've been working on a drawing that requires me to take .dwg files of 3D equipment and place them into my one drawing for general arrangement purposes. I used it once before but now I'm having a slight issue when I use the flatshot command. I seem to remember Flatshot making my new 2d block at the same coordinates as the existing model and that it would be at zero in the Zed axis (x,y,0). My block now appears and various locations, even when i specify coordinates or basepoint it can be off by a good amount. Is there an option that I'm forgetting or something, so I dont have to manaully move my block back to the desired coordinates?
This isn't a major problem since I can manually match the block back up with the coordinates my model is at and then move it to x,y,0 but I feel like theres a way to ensure I dont have to worry about doing that at all.
GIMP :: Fixing Windows In Place?
Sep 14, 2011Is there any way to fix the windows in place when opening a file that already exists?Example: I go to my image folder, right-click to open a .png in GIMP, and the window opens up like this with the right corners of the image window off the screen. I have to resize every time, just to see the right-most parts of my image when I zoom in.
This is what I want my default settings to look like - perfectly set within the screen, with each corner of the image window visible.I've messed around with the Preferences menu, but so far all I've been able to do is make it so my toolbox pops up in the same place.

GIMP :: 2.8 Won't Start On Windows XP Home SP3
Jan 7, 2014I did a complete uninstall of GIMP 2.6. Then a complete install of GIMP 2.8. No errors during installation. When I run GIMP, Windows draws a window frame with the title "GIMP Startup" but the inside of the window remains unpainted (whatever was behind it remains visible). This window frame exists for maybe one second and then closes. I have waited a long time but nothing continues. Task Manager confirms that no application is running. I uninstalled, downloaded again, reinstalled (even just a "compact" installation), but same thing.
System Info:
Windows XP Home SP3, up to date
2 GB RAM
Paging file initial 3058 MB, max 6116 MB
