Basically my problem is that when I go to print, my printer doesn't show up on the list of devices to print. I'm using a netbook (which actually handles Gimp surprisingly well!) with a printer plugged into it, so it's a cabled connection and should show up without issue. All my other programs with print options can find it just fine. It's only Gimp that seems to be having the problem. methods for making the printer show up?
View 1 RepliesWhen I try to print to my Epson PRO 3800, asking Photoshop to handle colors, this printer profiles are not available. I have this printer for years and have always used PS CS3 to print (and handle colors).
Now I have PS CS5 but continue to use 3 for printing to the 3800, because the Epson profiles disappeared from CS5. Now they have disappeared from CS3 too.
I cannot seem to see the custom Printer Profiles I have for certain papersin the Print Dialog.I have added the Print Profiles to Library > Application Support > Adobe > Color > Profiles (and also in Recommended)

But in the Print Dialog under Colour Management > Photoshop Handles Colour > Print Profile - they are not showing. I have done things like restarting Photoshop and converting the image to CMYK from RGB.

I can see the profiles in the Proofing menu and am able to select them.without using the profiles my colour management is completely off kilter.Also, can I confirm that I am putting the printer profiles in the correct folder?
Gimp is 2.6.11 (with the print bug fixed!?)
Printer is Kodak ESP5200 All in One, operating in wireless mode.
Op sys is Windows 7.
Symptom: any print request from GIMP results in the printer stuck at 0% spooled.
Going to other (native) Windoze applications for printing really sucks. The built in print function scales to whatever it thinks convenient. Windows Paint also does ambiguous scaling. All I want is an exact scale print ... and GIMP used to do this very well.
Clarification added: GIMP handles dimensions perfectly, and all I want is for it to print. I have no interest / desire to push the image in to some other application just to get it printed.
A friend who is new to gimp asked if gimp can recognize epson printer color profiles? He told me that when he uses photoshop, it allows him to choose papers and color settings? Can gimp do the same thing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used Gimp a bit, and before that PS quite a bit. I have never had to use the size constraints for sizing a file to fit a large format printer. I will be getting one any day so I would like to be prepared as much as possible. When I was at another shop, the owner used one of the cropping functions to set the finish print size and then she could move the box around to locate the best print area and remainder to be cropped. She was using PS. I would assume I could do it also in Gimp, but have not found a way to do it yet. What am I missing. Even if the printer software will do it on the printer, I would like to be able to show my customer on a PC monitor what they might expect.

'Hinting' and 'Anitialiasing' are checked/ticked. If I moved the dotted box that's supposed to contain the text, the text appears over the image I want the text to appear under, the text appears!

I loaded up GIMP today to find that the yellow dashed layer boundaries aren't showing within any of my drawings. The 'Show Layer Boundary' option in the 'View' menu is selected - I have even tried un-selecting, and re-selecting it again, but still does not show.
I really don't want to reinstall GIMP because I will lose my custom window configurations.
Whenever I try to open a file through my pictures folder, the images (no thumbnails, etc) show up. I have to go through my pictures manually, then put the image into a folder on my desktop in order to open them through gimp.

I'm using Gimp 2.6 on Ubuntu. I open the GIMP, and I'm going along just fine, then all of a sudden I can't get the dialog box for a tool I'm using and I can't view the layers tool box. If I close everything and open GIMP again, it will work for a while.

Not sure when this started happening since the last time I used Gimp was about a week or so ago and everything was fine at that point... Now when I open these ".xcf" files I've been working on in Gimp I see this strange Blue Scribble that is showing in the same location for pretty much all the xcf files I opened.
I went through every layer in the "Layers" window and made each one NOT visible in an attempt to see if it was something on one of the layers, but it remained there even after ALL layers were no Longer visible. I also created a new xcf file, saved it, then re-opened it in Gimp and NO scribble was there...
If I export one of the files showing the Blue Scribble into any other format and then re-opened it in Gimp the Blue Scribble is gone too.
1. Is there a "show quick mask" feature for showing masks?
I know Gimp has a "*Show quick mask*" feature which shows what you have(and haven't) selected by displaying a red overlay over your image,allowing you to add to or subtract from a selection by using the paintbrush, but I haven't found a similar feature for showing masks.
Photoshop has this feature (it's called 'reveal mask' I think) and it basically just shows a red overlay of your mask on your image so that,similar to the quick mask feature in Gimp, you can see where you have and haven't masked through.
(I don't own Photoshop so I'm not sure if the red overlay shows the opacity with which you've masked through or whether or not you can edit the mask when it's being shown as a red overlay.)
2. Is there a command for showing the layer underneath the current layer I'm working on?
This is another feature that I've seen Photoshop has that is useful for blending multiple exposures (and lots of things, really).
Basically it's just a keyboard shortcut for showing the layer underneath your current when you hold down a certain keyboard command (it's not something you toggle since it's meant for quickly viewing what's on the layer underneath your current one).
I know I can press space bar to show or hide the layer I'm currently working on, but I can't do that unless I focus into the layers dialogue first. It'd be nice if I could activate that functionality from anywhere,regardless of whether I'm focused on the layers dialogue.
Do either of these features exist in Gimp?
I've just reduced the size of a canvas from 300x300 to 200x200 but when I merge the layers I'm left with a dotted line showing the original size.

When I had to switch to an LCD, the printer just couldn't reproduce the intensity of what I was creating on screen. I'd welcome opinions and experiences with brands that work well with the strong LCD screen images (-I'd LOVE a WYSIWYG ) and one that is Vista compatible. I've looked at Epson, Canon and HP and have worries about all of them which have to be resolved SOON. Majority of my work is with photos of all sizes to 13X19"
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have run CS3 for many years on many platforms with two different printers. I upgraded my computer and operating system (basic specs listed below) in January of this year, 2012, and I decided to pare down to one printer: my Epson Stylus Photo R2880, which has been working with it splendidly until this past Friday, 5/4/12. I suddenly started getting the not responding issue when I attempted to open files in not just Photoshop, but my Acrobat as well. I have not updated any drivers in the month of May and I could still use all of my non-adobe software just fine. I looked online and found that it was a known issue. I reset my preferences, I ran a windows de fragment, I swept for spyware, and none of those worked. I set adobe pdf as the default printer for my computer and the "issue was resolved."
The problem remains that when I go into my print dialogue and manually change the target printer to my Epson I cannot print out of any of my Adobe software the not responding issue reasserts itself if any adobe software attempts to communicate with my printer: word, text files, windows viewer and the internet still print just fine off of the Epson. This is a huge problem for me because I run a small home publishing company and I can no longer PRINT out of my work software. Extremely frustrated that this 'fix' is no fix at all for my needs. I am at an utter loss for what to do to have a working office again and would like getting software that has been working perfectly in multiple set ups with multiple printers for since 2009 to work again?

I used to run CS3 on a custom built XP SP3 system with an hp printer, then with and hp and Epson printer. This year I switched to my current system, wiping the old drive as a backup disk and adding a 1T hard drive to hold win 7. It has worked fine for several months of heavy use for my website, greeting cards, and small comic publications. I need this set up to work again or I will go out of business,

All of a sudden, when I try to print from Photoshop CS6, I get a message that says my printer is not online. If I load the photo to another program I have no problem printing.Â
My grandson was using my Photoshop and may have changed some setting, but which settings!

Solution: run Photoshop CS5 in 32-bit mode:
1. Quit Photoshop CS5.
2. Navigate to Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder.
3. Select the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application file.
4. Choose File > Get Info.
5. Select "Open in 32-Bit Mode".
6. Close the Get Info dialog box.
7. Restart Photoshop CS5
Any new Photoshop documents printed to the new printer comes out in characters instead of the image. We are using an Intel based Mac book running 10.5.8 Leopard and have done all the updates to the computer as well as the firmware update to the printer. The printer shows that is a postscript printer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently started using a printer profile (Epson photo 1270). My query is this. I take a picture with my camera (Canon 10D), which when viewed on my monitor in ACDsee looks about right, colors ok, just needs a few touches here and there maybe. I then open it in Photoshop using the printer profile and the pictures looks very different. Now I realise what is happening but I am having great trouble adjusting the picture back to how it looked originally(which I was fairly happy with). I also know that if I can adjust the picture to how it looked it will print out almost identical to how it looks on the screen, so that is ok. It just takes a lot of time to do this using the Photoshop tools, and it is so hit and miss to try and put it right and get back to the original colors etc. Is there a shortcut that can be used, using the color values from the original view before it was opened in Photoshop or something like that? It just seems a lot of work for every individual photograph I may want to print out. I can compare the two views of the same photograph by having Photoshop and ACDsee open together.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running under XP SP3 with Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1 with an Epson R2400. All of the profiles are present in windows/system32/spool/drivers/color, but are not listed in Photoshop's printer profile list. Everything was working fine as recently as 3-4 weeks ago, and everything is still working fine in CS2 which is also installed on this machine (3.7gig processor with 1gig ram) and several large hard drives).
I noticed the problem after installing SP3 today, but the problem remained after I restored a Ghost image created just prior to the SP3 update. Thus, it seems not to be caused by SP3. I have reinstalled SP3 based on that conclusion.
The only items on the printer profile list look like things that ship with Photoshop such as Apple RGB.
I am getting the following dialoge box when trying to print in PSCS4 to my Epson 3800, Vista 64. This is a new problem. "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such a s page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have installed and reinstalled the Epson twice now, I have tried printing to PDF as well as the generic Windows printer driver. PS is updated. I can print from Illustrator and Acrobat, as well as Office, ect. The problem is only PS. I have Vista 64 and PS 64 on a laptop and I can print to the Epson just fine. What is going on with my tower? update: even more curious is that I can create a new document and PS DOES see the printer just fine.
