GIMP :: Pictures Coming Out Grainy And Chalky Looking
Jul 28, 2011
All my pictures lately have been coming out grainy and really chalky looking, i used to be able to do a line and it would be smooth, now its, well here's a pic. I want sharp clean images.
The size of the image is 405x288. I stroke a path with a size 1 brush then filled the bottom with bucket.

I had about twenty seconds to take this picture last night but only to notice it is rather dark due to the limited lighting in that area. I have tried various settings in Lightroom to brighten it up enough to see the moon and the building in the foreground but the pictures just come out to grainy and a slight purple look. what i can do for this?

I've been creating charts in Excel 2004 for Mac for years and copying them into Illustrator. They have always previously pasted into Illustrator as vectors illustrations. I've created hundreds of charts in Excel before and copied them to Illustrator to "dress them up" for reports with no problems. I just created a chart in Excel 2004 for Mac and copied it to Illustrator and it came in as a picture. This is the first time I have ever had this happen with an Excel chart.

I see the reverse layers option, I use that when I save and export it as a gif.
The gif becomes all grainy and white when it started out and you can see the layers from before still showing while the other layers are playing.

I have recently upgarded from the 2.6 version to the 2.8, and I have serious issues with the colour picker. Every time I use the dropper to select the colour I want to use from a picture, it ALWAYS comes out as black, never as the colour I want to use (for touching up, etc).

For some reason, GIMP is putting straight lines off of any line I draw (paintbrush, ink or pencil) and while it's pretty cool, I'd like to be able to draw properly.

I am trying to restore old pictures. Some have scratches on them that I did not noticed until scanned into the computer. There is a cloudy appearance over the subjects in the pictures that I have not been able to get rid of. Is there anything that can be done to the photo before scanning? Is there any feature in Gimp that I can use to make some correction? Clone tool is not useful as there is not a good source.

GIMP are going to come up with a tool like the refine edge tool that is availale in Photoshop. I really need some way of removing the background of some of the pictures I use. I have attached an example of an image that I would like to remove the background and replace it. I have spent hours trying to work out how to do it successfully.

I have a Canon Rebel t3 and when I try to import my pictures they all have a pinkish hue to them. I have looked at all the settings and they are all set to their default. So I went to UFRaw site to see if my camera was supported and it looks like it is not. I was told to download a DNG converter which I did, it was update 6.4. Unfortunately, when I try to open this it says "Update not applicable".

Oftentimes I face the need to restore a picture of a text document -mainly forms to fill- to something approaching the original document. This requires to remove all the grey parts and to have a result in black on white i.e. no other colors. It may also require some understanding of how characters are formed -regardless the language- to prevent white dots in the middle of a character
With the document restored, one can then fill the form with an editor so as to have it clearly (printed characters) and easily (because filled with a editor) filled
My question is how do you do that with Gimp.

I need to take a logo and blend it in with another picture. I also want the picture of leaves to drape a little over the letters of the logo. How do I do this? I can't figure out how to crop or how to add a 2nd picture to my screen.

I want to edit a lot of pictures for a catalog. Just make them look a bit old so a somple filter should do just fine. But is it possible to set the changes and then select a folder or a number of pictures to get them changed?
I would like to know what is the fastest way to change about 100 pictures.

Just a question about scaling and pixelation. I've been doing some 3D models in ZBrush at a 960x960 size, and wanting to scale them down to 48x48 size, very small icons for a game engine.
Anyway I started doing this with just normal scale in GIMP, but the picture just turned out like a big blur. With further investigation I found GIMP add-ons, Liquid Scale and Step Scale (I think that was it's name) where you can step down the scale of the picture and sharpen it during step downs etc.
Still not having much luck, I can get it to look better, but not good, still very pixelated and blurry. The required result I want is something along these lines - Picture
Using high res picture, I've tried PNG, GIF, PSD with not really much luck.
PS: Attached is the original model GIF and the resized picture.

Just started using Gimp 2.6.11. I like it for cutting and pasting into new files but I'm having trouble learning the method of adding captions at the bottom of pictures where I'd like to place text of the names of the people above. I get text in black but the background stays the same as previous in the picture so most of the time it can't be seen. I really need to get this going in the next week or so as I'm preparing for an event where the pictures will be on display.

Running 2.6.12 on Linux Mint 13.
I used to be able to do quick and dirty salvaging of pics that are too darkin Photoshop Elements 2 using the levels tool. While Gimp has a levels tool it doesn't seem to work quite the same way.
So what would you do to restore a pic like this?

I am taking daily shots of a fig tree which is just in front of my kitchen window. At the end I would like to produce a video showing the fig tree blossoming and then loosing its leaves. I am realizing that the lighting is changing from one picture to the other. Is there a way to even out the lighting of all my pictures to a given average?

I have an odd behavior with saving, how to deal with. This is using Gimp 2.6.11 under Windows 7 Professional SP1.
When you do a "Save As" for a new picture, the default directory is "\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin". I have been careless and sometimes clicked "Save" without changing the directory. When I go to the directory "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin", the files are not visible. But within Gimp, I can use the "Open" menu item to see them and open them, so they do exist.
how I can delete these files, because they don't belong in the bin directory?
