Mar 25, 2011I was doing it before, but now it keeps losing saturation when I use the dodge/burn tool. I must have changed a setting or something.

How do I combine a fuzzy selection area with a dodge or burn operation?
The fuzzy select tool is handy for roughly outlining areas of over or under exposure. There must be a way to combine an oddly-shaped fuzzy selection area with a jittery dodging operation. Do I have to turn the fuzzy selection area into a "brush" somehow, in order to "dodge or burn" that area?
use of 'quality' and 'weight' under 'smooth stroke' in say dodge/burn tool. This option is available under some other tools too but I am not able to find the effect of these options even after scouring the net and could not find any difference after changing the default values.
Version GIMP 2.8.X from software centre of Ubuntu 13.04; no modifications, no extras.
Does anyone know of any good tutorials on the web for the dodge and burn tools? I have just about mastered all of the tools except these two. I don't know what my problem is here. If you know of any books or articles that are available, please let me know of those also.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy not add a tool to Paint.NET? I'm pretty sure this program's development is also based around creating a image editing and creation program to where everything is simplified greatly.
I do understand that you can easily do this type of stuff with the line tool and opacity settings but really it would be towards the convenience of users.
I have seen three brush technques to lighten and darken parts of an image, dodge & burn, to enhance dimension (look more 3D):
1. Create a Curves Adjustment Layer set to lighten or darken image, fill it's mask w. black and paint w. white to dodge or burn respectively. Two layers are required, one to dodge, one to burn.
2. Creat a new layer w. Overlay mode and "Fill w. Overlay-neutral color (50% gray) set in the "New Layer" dialogue box. Then paint with white or black to dodge or burn respectively.
3. Duplicate the layer to be modified and use the Dodge & Burn Tool.
Is one method better than the other for non-destructive overall control and ease of use?
I have forgotten how to dodge or burn an image using layers. the link i had saved is no longer good.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI create an adjustment layer and then want to erase part of that layer, nothing is happening. I've tried painting to lighten or darken and tried the burn and dodge tool, but nothing happens.
What have I missed? I'm working just the same as in CS3, but with no results.
Photoshop 7. Clone tool (etal) won't work. I've verified I am in RGB mode, and the 'Aligned' box is unchecked. Since the background layer is locked, I duplicated the background and tried working in the unlocked layer. Still no luck. These tools were working fine before, and sometimes when I open PS they do. Other times, like now, they are inaccessible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 x pictures - pictures A & B.
I have figured out how to use the HUE SATURATION to change the colour of PIC B.
I want pic B to be the SAME colour as PIC A.
Is there a tutorial on how to use the color picker & clic on PIC A, and then tell picture B to be the SAME colour as Pic A ?
PS - I also want PIC B (words) to have a transparent background.
I'm trying to plot routes on a road map. A monochrome map is on the background layer and the routes are to go on a transparent routes layer.
I draw the routes with the pencil tool, holding down shift to go from node to node. The pencil opacity is set to 60% so that the road names on the background layer remain visible through the route colour.
All works except that the nodes are higher in saturation than the links between. What seems to be happening is that the adjacent segments overlap at the nodes and the saturations add together.
How to colour in the routes with a consistent saturation?
Is there an easy way to flatten without losing transparency?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a .png image that is 38 pixels wide and 30 pixels high. I would like to enlarge this image to 64 x 64 pixels and also 100 x 100 pixels size, but when I try to do this, the image becomes blurred. The file image is attached. It's a hamburger.[/color]
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the following code to upload and resize graphic files.
PHP Code:
Ive figured out how to scale images and remove their backgrounds, but when I go to paste them in a new location I lose their scaling.
What I'm trying to do is put multiple pictures (the items are scaled to actual size, which is important) onto a single 8.5 x 11 page.
So, I've taken some of my pictures, opened their files scaled them to where they need to be, and then removed the backgrounds. I saved that as a new file.
How would I then take those files and place them, with the scale I made them, into something that is this 8.5 x 11 page size.
When I try to do it now, it doesn't keep the scale.
What does the dodge tool do?
What does dodging mean?
Is there some link that explains what each tool does in somewhat simple language?
Is there anyway to reverse the effects of using dodge, without undoing?
That is, is there some kind of brush like dodge that will..."undodge"?
I upgraded to PS 5.5 on my Mac I've had this problem with the dodge tool.I can change hrd/softness fine, but now way will the little 'tails' at either end of the stroke disappear, whether shape dynamics is switched on or off, All I want is to be able to have a fading stroke, not a fade and taper.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PS 5.5 to work on a .tif file scanned from a photo negative of a building. The dodge tool & burn tool do not work, even when I set the exposure to 100%. The history palette shows "dodge tool" each time I click in the image, but nothing happens. I tried these tools in a another similar file & both dodge & burn work fine. What could cause these tools not to work?
