View 3 Repliescould somebosdy please explain the diff. between linear dodge/color dodge and the linear burn/color burn settings of the brush tool?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy not add a tool to Paint.NET? I'm pretty sure this program's development is also based around creating a image editing and creation program to where everything is simplified greatly.
I do understand that you can easily do this type of stuff with the line tool and opacity settings but really it would be towards the convenience of users.
I create an adjustment layer and then want to erase part of that layer, nothing is happening. I've tried painting to lighten or darken and tried the burn and dodge tool, but nothing happens.
What have I missed? I'm working just the same as in CS3, but with no results.
I have seen three brush technques to lighten and darken parts of an image, dodge & burn, to enhance dimension (look more 3D):
1. Create a Curves Adjustment Layer set to lighten or darken image, fill it's mask w. black and paint w. white to dodge or burn respectively. Two layers are required, one to dodge, one to burn.
2. Creat a new layer w. Overlay mode and "Fill w. Overlay-neutral color (50% gray) set in the "New Layer" dialogue box. Then paint with white or black to dodge or burn respectively.
3. Duplicate the layer to be modified and use the Dodge & Burn Tool.
Is one method better than the other for non-destructive overall control and ease of use?
How do you get to dodge and burn in photos shop elements 11
Also when I used the spot healer I am left with a smudge after I try to erase unwanted parts of an image.
Does anyone know of any good tutorials on the web for the dodge and burn tools? I have just about mastered all of the tools except these two. I don't know what my problem is here. If you know of any books or articles that are available, please let me know of those also.

Is there a button to get it to darken instead?
Photoshop 7. Clone tool (etal) won't work. I've verified I am in RGB mode, and the 'Aligned' box is unchecked. Since the background layer is locked, I duplicated the background and tried working in the unlocked layer. Still no luck. These tools were working fine before, and sometimes when I open PS they do. Other times, like now, they are inaccessible.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHow do I combine a fuzzy selection area with a dodge or burn operation?
The fuzzy select tool is handy for roughly outlining areas of over or under exposure. There must be a way to combine an oddly-shaped fuzzy selection area with a jittery dodging operation. Do I have to turn the fuzzy selection area into a "brush" somehow, in order to "dodge or burn" that area?
use of 'quality' and 'weight' under 'smooth stroke' in say dodge/burn tool. This option is available under some other tools too but I am not able to find the effect of these options even after scouring the net and could not find any difference after changing the default values.
Version GIMP 2.8.X from software centre of Ubuntu 13.04; no modifications, no extras.
Just recently upgraded from Photoshop CS5.5 64bit to Photoshop CS6 64 bit. Crashes when using burn tool, crop tool, or dodge tool?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this is basic I slect one layer for the image . When I use the rectangular selection tool on the layer and go to resize or move the selection with the move resize pixel tool instead of moving or resizing the selected area I get blank rectangle that moves or resizes. The selected area just stays the same.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using layers, lots of them and I'm loving using them. My problem is bottom layer translucency. I'm creating soccer posters. The bottom layer is a picture of the grass with a soccer net. I want it to be translucent. I've selected the layer and made the opacity 75. It looks great in the Paint.Net document, but when I save it as .TIF or .PNG file the translucency is gone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI download an image of the net of a dog with a .png transparent background. open in paint it's showing the transparency which is great, now say i make another image (not a layer) of 400px, by 400px, and fill it white, I'm so used to in photoshop just dragging transparency masks/layers from one image directly into a new image,
I've tried everything in paint.net even tried making a new layer, filling that white, bringing the transparency image to the front. so the white layer is behind the transparency one, then copy/cut to the new image with a filled in "white" background.
but all that copies across is the transparency layer, unlike Photoshop there's no copy merged, move merged option. so how do you get to cut/move a bunch of layers as 1 into a new image either by drag and drop, or cut and paste?
is it possible to edit the individual layers of an image after the layers have been compressed and the image saved? If so, where do I find the instructions for that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a very long time user of Paint Shop (back to the early JASC days) and using the program primarily for producing bmp and jpg files with lots of graphics, an irritation in later versions has been the need to 'flatten' the layers periodically while working on an image. In past versions (don't remember how far past) one could set defaults such that you automatically worked in a single layer. I don't specifically remember how this was done (only that it could be done) and have not 'rediscovered' how to do it in my current X3 version and assume it will be the same in my (on order) X4. Is there a way to default into single layer work?
BTW: I strongly second the dislike of the graphite color scheme so certainly hope X4 gets 'fixed' to allow one to get rid of it.
I also note that after using the pop-up that appeared in X3 startup to order X4, my X3 became inoperable and had to reload it!
I have created disc images of some projects. The 'share' option allows for making disc images but I can't see how to burn a disc from the image using VS X4.....the 'create disc' section does not seem to accept an image for burning.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to have inadvertently done something that has increased the time it takes to burn a DVD or ISO Image file from less than an hour to over 7 hours. I'm working on my first project, and have burned several discs along the way, and most burn in well under an hour. Then ... I must have changed something without understanding what it meant, and the time to burn has increased by around 10 X. Hardware acceleration for everything is On, and disabling it slows the process down even more.
The project is a video slide show with 994 photos, a music track ripped within VS5 from a CD to wav files. The project ends up just over 5 GB to burn to DVD. I tell it to let DVD Fit adjust the size down and it does reduce it to 4.38 GB.
Another thing I noticed, is that after letting it run to completion, instead of it taking up most of the DVD, the DVD is only half full even though I'd expect it to be almost full with 4.38 GB and it has been up until this problem started. And if I make an ISO Image instead, it is less than 2 GB in size instead of close to 4.38 GB. I'm wondering if some how I told it to do a massive job of compression?
FYI - I'm using the trial version of VS5, so it may not have SP 1 installed, and it appears that SP 1 cannot be installed on a trial version.
I want to apply Burn to a flattened image, but without flattening. My image consists of several layers, and if I apply Burn to the image layer it doesn't work as well as when applied to the flattened image. But I don't want to flatten the image.
I have uploaded a test image here. It is a crop from a scanned Kodachrome using a Nikon Coolscan V ED which causes flare whenever highlights abut shadows. I can remove the flare fairly effectively on a flattened image with several Burn passes by using a brush size:75, Range: midtones, Exposure: 20%. But if I try it on the unflattened image layer, the results are not as good.
Is there a way to burn a disk of multiple images with your logo on each image?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat does the dodge tool do?
What does dodging mean?
Is there some link that explains what each tool does in somewhat simple language?
Is there anyway to reverse the effects of using dodge, without undoing?
That is, is there some kind of brush like dodge that will..."undodge"?
I upgraded to PS 5.5 on my Mac I've had this problem with the dodge tool.I can change hrd/softness fine, but now way will the little 'tails' at either end of the stroke disappear, whether shape dynamics is switched on or off, All I want is to be able to have a fading stroke, not a fade and taper.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PS 5.5 to work on a .tif file scanned from a photo negative of a building. The dodge tool & burn tool do not work, even when I set the exposure to 100%. The history palette shows "dodge tool" each time I click in the image, but nothing happens. I tried these tools in a another similar file & both dodge & burn work fine. What could cause these tools not to work?
