GIMP :: Plot Routes On Road Map - Line Node Saturation
Dec 9, 2012
I'm trying to plot routes on a road map. A monochrome map is on the background layer and the routes are to go on a transparent routes layer.
I draw the routes with the pencil tool, holding down shift to go from node to node. The pencil opacity is set to 60% so that the road names on the background layer remain visible through the route colour.
All works except that the nodes are higher in saturation than the links between. What seems to be happening is that the adjacent segments overlap at the nodes and the saturations add together.
How to colour in the routes with a consistent saturation?

I have this intersection and I want to make a roundabout there. The first step is to make two center lines of the roads. How can I make these centre lines perfectly aligned? The lines that you see in the attachment are freehand made.

I need to project a crossing pipe onto a road centerline. I have water running down one side of the road 7' off the centerline of the road and sewer running down the other 8' off the centerline. There is storm drain running perpendicular across the road.
The sewer and the water are projected onto the centerline of road profile. When I draw the crossing pipes in that profile view and change the override, because it does not cross the centerline, it disappears from the profile view. How can I accurately show the crossing at the proper invert of the respective crossing without drawing the ellipses manually?

in earlier versions of draw you could move one end of line with the pick tool by moving the cursor over the end node grabbing it and moving it where ever you wanted. With x5 it seems that you must go to the node editing tool to select the node. Is there a setting I'm missing that will allow the pick tool to select node?

I have 2 x pictures - pictures A & B.
I have figured out how to use the HUE SATURATION to change the colour of PIC B.
I want pic B to be the SAME colour as PIC A.
Is there a tutorial on how to use the color picker & clic on PIC A, and then tell picture B to be the SAME colour as Pic A ?
PS - I also want PIC B (words) to have a transparent background.

I think this issue started with SP2. I don't remember having these issues in SP1 and earlier.
Create some COGO points at varying elevations.Start a new feature line.Use "node" object snap and pick your first cogo pointIt does not pick up the elevation of the point (it used to)Now draw feature line segments to a few more cogo points entering the elevation each time.It does not pick up the elevation of the point (it used to)Now switch to Arc mode and snap to a few more cogo points.It does correctly picks up the elevation of the cogo points (like it used to)R.K. I've created a self-draining tube and pipe style for the first time. I find that in some routes only the self-draining style is available and in other routes it isn't available (i.e. in the drop down list or to activate in the styles dialog). What the rules are that allow non- or self-draining style selection?

How do you fully ground & constrain Tube & Pipe Routes?
The problem I have is after I complete My runs & routes & I have to make a dimension change in my Route, my route does not stay vertical & horizontal, then I have to start all over, which is very time consuming
I'm sure there is a way to do this , just like in a regular sketch, you want all of your lines to turn purple so it is fully constrained , well with the routes they are not, only the very first line then the rest of the lines in the route are blue. I have tried to use regular constraints but I get the error message saying constraint already applied.
I have also tried to ground a work point from where the route starts from, & that didn't work.

We've been using Tube and pipe for a few months now, and still working through the quirks and tricks for producing a stable route. One problem however as more users are starting to use T&P is when in the top level T&P assembly they are dragging on a route and not always aware they have done so - this can result in the route being rotated fractions of a degree or moved fraction of mm and causing no end of confusion and frustration later on trying to diagnose and fix. Is there a way to 'lock' a route in place so it cannot be dragged in the top level?
Have tried switching off adaptivity in the i Properties of 'Tube & Pipe Runs' assembly, but this usually switches back on automatically. One user had a problem where the included geometry (taken from the x,y,z axes) had also moved and had to be deleted and redone - Wouldn't have thought anything based on the x,y,z axes should move?

I'm seeing a very strange behaviour with the routing though. In the first picture you can see both connection points are lined up in the y plane (measuring 0mm). However in the second picture you can see the route inventor choose for me which is strange. It shows the path moving in the "y" direction before returning in the same direction at the next connection point. I've plenty of room for all bends and piping (I'm using ANSI Schd40 1.5NB - Welded ends). I've tried doing the route manually then connecting the top horizontal section but it again wants to throw an offset or two in there when there is no need.

When I plot a drawing on a particular file there is a line on my dimension layer that doesn't appear at any other time. It only plots when the dimension layer is on but does not appear on the screen so I cannot select it and delete it. The layer itself seems to be normal like the other layers. Are there any remedies besides creating a new layer and putting the dimensions on the new layer?

Is there a way to export to pdf so that the lines match closer to the original drawing? I've tried using different pdf drivers, using trueview, exporting to a larger paper size (which improved output, but still not good enough). I know there has got to be a setting to increase the rasterization quality but the obvious ones don't work.
The firest image is an example section of the exported pdf and the second image is what it looks like opened in autocad.

I've just recently caught up to 2.8 (From 2.4 something or other believe it or not ) and amongst a couple of things I have to say I don't like is the fact that previously when setting a path, if I wanted it to be either perfectly horizontal or vertical I could see by the steps in the path preview line whether it was or not.
With the new version, initially at least, that's no longer the case. As I tend to work with straight lines a lot of the time it's proving to be a bit of a pain. Is there any way to set the path preview line to show the steps again to indicate a straight line.

I have one drawing per file at model tab. When I need to plot a multiple page file, I use:
Print > Batch Plot.
The problem is that I have to set plot configurations ( plot style table, plot area, paper size, etc) in each file before use Batch Plot.
Now I received 722 files with a wrong Plot Style Table. For this time I change the associated *.ctb file at Plot Style folder, but I will need to associate the right *.ctb to each drawing. It's also common to have to change other properties.

I have an issue with plotting line thickness, when I use the company setup using a d-size B&W.pc3 and mono chrome.ctb files, i can't seem to get the plotter to show line thickness. But using the same setup with a customer border, I can get the line thickness.
Also I not sure if this makes a difference, but the company plots from model space and where most of our customers use paper space.

I am having an issue trying to create a template using my correct line widths. Some of my plots are fine while others are too light. I know it is related to my plt file settings, but I can't seem to assess how to locate them in the plt file and then determine which is which (ie: the good ones vs. the incorrect ones)

Is it possible to copy a line in Plot Style Table, in my case red nr 1, and have two with different linetype?
I have a drawing where this specific line and the text belonging to it should be in red, (line 1) and the lines dashed. If I in my Plot Style Table make line 1 dashed, the text get dashed too.
At the moment I have put another color to the dashed lines, but if there is a way to have two red nr1 lines with different linetype .

I'm trying to plot a line weight defined by a CTB Plot Style, but the weight will not show in AutoCAD or print.
Here's what I've done;
-Set the line weight in the Plot Style Table Editor, Color 9 @ 0.40mm. Grayscale has been turned on.(All other settings have been left as default)
-Tried various combos like;
-selecting "Display plot styles" & "Plot with Plot Styles" in pg setup
-selecting the "Plot object lineweights". (It also turns off "plot with plot styles" and prints in color (though grayscale is on)
-LWDISPLAY has bee turned on
-Neither model or paper space reflects the change.
-Line types work fine
-Changing the same line thru the Properties Manager does the trick, but I would like to set it up properly thru the Plot Style
Back Ground Info;
-Both the dwg file and Plot Style are new and created from scratch.
If it was a printer issue, it would still show in AutoCAD correctly, right? I've searched various help tools, but seem to be going in circles.

Ok, so i have a plot table set up asigning different line weights to different colours. I have layers set up pointing to the specific colours.
Eg Layer Exterior Walls - Colour White Colour White -> lineweight .25mm
There are some lines on this layer (and on others) which appear different to the rest when plotted, as though they aren't following the line weight rule.
Link to PDF [URL]....(Only the exterior walls layer is selected but this error is on multiple layers)

I'm using GIMP 2.6.11. When I use the line tool and left click + shift to snap a line from point to point, there's no preview line that shows exactly where the line is going to be drawn. In former version(s) of GIMP, I could clearly see where the line was going to be placed because of this feature. I miss it because when doing technical drawings precision and exact angles are needed. Is this feature not included with GIMP 2.6.11? How I can get this tool to work like it used to?
