Photoshop :: CS4 Shutdown After Alien Skin Use?
Jan 29, 2012I've been using CS4 on my macbook pro, I have Alien Skin plug ins that I use quite a bit. Recently, after using the Alien Skin actions, CS4 shuts down if I try to use them a second time. So, I open a photo, use the Alien Skin, continue to edit, but if I decide to use Alien Skin again, it shuts down CS4.

Jan 25, 2013got the new Alien Skin plugins to work. When you install Alien Skin, you install to a single directory, both 32 bit and 64 bit plugins. Then in X5, File Locations, I put that directory in the settings but still nothing. maybe X5 doesn't work with them.

Nov 20, 2012I occasionally use GIMP to burn-down parts of portraits that compete with the face. For example, bare shoulder, midriff over-light, hands over-lit.
The skin ends up looking greyish, not like less-lit skin. It works not too badly visually, as the emphasis is on the face, but fails on inspection.
I have tried the burn tool and just plain old Brightness, both on a selected area.

Mar 27, 2012I am using photshop cs5 more and more for illustration since I have found that with tweeking the brush pallet - I can simulate almost any type of art medium for illustration- inclding straight line for architectural drawings, pencil sketch lines, inked lines and various painting looks.... and the rotate canvas feature is fantastic for draftmanship.... but one feature that has eluded me is the ability to create mirror imagery on the fly- I know i can do a copy-paste-(edit-image rotate-flip horizontal) after creating half an image or I could possibly set up an action to do this to a selection in one touch- but I have not seen an on the fly feature to accomplish this in real time as you are placing down marks.. similar to sketch book pro and alchemy--- the ability to mirror an image as you are creating is essential for creativity and is very useful in creating imagery for video game modeling ....

Jun 29, 2007am trying to select between red and pink...on a graded level, which makes it harder. I am using the select tool and select similar in order to do so...I was wondering if their was a way to limit the particle size (object total pixzel area) that photshop considers when selecting similar things.
For example, like I stated above, I am selecting for red objects against pink objects...and the red objects are round, so is there a way to limit selection to objects red and have a objective radius of a few pixels?

Photoshop :: How Content Fill With Smart Objects
May 6, 2013I've done a (hopefully) fairly exhaustive search, and don't see anything on how to use these things together...
Open an image as a smart object. Add a layer for cloning and healing. Maybe add a curves adjustment layer and/or a hue/sat adjustment layer. Adjust things as needed.
Decide you want to extend the background on one side. Increase the canvas on that side. Select the chunk of canvas. What process should be used to employ the content-aware fill for that new piece of canvas? I don't seem to be able to have the smart object layer selected. If I have another layer selected the fill fails saying there aren't enough opaque (?) pixels.

I used a heart fill pattern of the right 75% of the picture and the left 75% of the picture is selected overlapping the first fill in the background... I want to fill the selected background area with a flame fill pattern where it overlaps the selected portion of the heart pattern as well as the transparent area... 'overlay' looks better but Gimp is FAILING to fill the transparent areas, it ONLY fills the overlapped heart pattern portion of the selected content!!! I even tried filling the transparent area with 'white' then filling the selected area, but it STILL ONLY wants to overlay fill the heart pattern, it STILL leaves the rest alone!!! it doesn't matter if the background is white or transparent, it leaves that alone and ONLY fills the heart pattern area of selected portion of the image!!!
Photoshop :: Pen Tool Stroke / Fill Function Not Working
Sep 8, 2012I draw a line with the pen tool, right click and then 'stroke' the pen line with a brush (for example). I imagine I've done this successfully thousands of times but for some reason it just isn't working today (or yesterday actually!). When I right click then go down to 'stroke' nothing happens at all.
However it does work if I go into the 'paths' palette, right click on 'work path' and stroke the pen line with the brush.

I am creating some geometric patters with the transform tool. Basically a shape is rotated about a center point. When the shapes are combined they create some quick interesting shapes. However, is there a way to fill in the gaps in the combined shape automatically, without having to manually use the smart fill tool?
Breaking the shape apart does not work, because the geometric pattern is based on the overlaps. I included a jpg of what I am doing to circumvent the manual smart fill, but is there an easier way, especially where the geometric patterns become very complex.
I can take the object, trim from a background, break apart that trimmed shape, then color it, or group or shape into a single curve, then align and group with the original object. But just looking to see if there is another easier way.

I have read several guides on how to do this and no one mention anything about this issue. As long as I have 16 letters on one line it works, but I have more it will just skip them.

Then I click an choose "path to text", but when I do it will only create a path of 1234567890123456 and skip the rest. If I write text on several rows it will use up to 16 letter on each row.

Apr 1, 2012I would like to obtain a black and white image of a photograph of a book page.
My attempt to do this is by running the threshold function over theentire image. This appears to give the desired result, but onlylocally. It appears that the optimum parameters of the thresholdfunction vary by position (i.e., according to some scalar field), withone extreme in the center of the glare and then radiating outward. Sojust running the threshold function over the entire image withconstant parameters always gives sub-optimum contrast for 75% of theimage. Will I have to find a way to run the threshold function withnon-constant parameters, or is there some other tool to do the job?
