On a white background, I create a triangle using the path tool.
I then go to bucket-fill this newly-created triangle but when I click on the bucket-fill icon, the triangle disappears. This happens if I create a new layer or not.
Take me through the creation of shapes on a background?
I'm new to illustrator and having trouble with changing the background color of the working board. I'd like to see how my very simple shapes look under dark conditions (black background).
So, while I was able to change the color of the background, my shapes, along with their fill colors, just disappeared. They're there, "behind" the background and I can't / don't know how to bring them to the front.
How can I accomplish such a simple task ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems creating pattern swatches in cs6, because I can't seem to solve the problem of the background overlapping and hiding foreground shapes. I can make patterns without a background and I think I've worked out how to prevent the problem with a simple grid, but when I make a brick tile pattern, whichever overlap options I choose, at least one of the foreground shapes gets partly obscured by the overlapping background. I'm used to making seamless patterns in previous versions of Illustrator, by using guides and grids, then defining the pattern using a background rectangle but this option doesn't seem to be available in CS6, so if I can't solve the problem, it's back to CS5.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI rebuild old wood working tools and frequently have a need to reproduce the original decals found on these machines. My normal procedure is to take a photo of the decal in high res, import it into gimp then use the tools available to "copy" the image onto another layer(s) in very high res. This produces a nice decal that I can then use on my machines.
The problem I am having however is that most of the lettering on these decals isn't quite a normal font. I can normally find something close, but then I need some way to stretch or otherwise modify individual letter so the fit exactly the text being copied.
I have a base image. I want to take "another" image,and place it into various different shapes...are there different shapes that one can use in the system? And if so, where are they....and when one places them into an image, how do you get rid of the background, to place your image in the shape?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe bought a JaguarIV plotter for cutting clear bra, but I was thinking that we could also use it to cut vinyl graphics. I have been watching some tutorials about paths and I'm getting quite good at manipulating curves and such. But I don't know if I can output to the plotter from GIMP. I tried just sending it as a print job, which I've heard you can do from Corel and Illustrator, but it didn't work.

Kind of like what you would see on a drafting drawing for a construction project: leaders coming off the edges, arrows extending between the leaders, and a dimension indicating the length of a side.
I don't plan to make a sophisticated drawing, so don't need something like AutoCAD, but I would like to indicate, say, the height and width of a rectangle, or the angular measure between sides in a triangle. My images are very simple geometric shapes.
Is this possible in GIMP?
I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?
I have installed the fonts but the amount of color editing and customization I can do is very, very small. For example I want to take a letter have it colored purple (so far so good) and then give a border to the letter like thin line of yellow (no option that allows me to do this).
we are talking about pretty big letters here but I cant seem to be able to do this. I am trying to edit this pre existing image and trying to enter dialogue bubbles with thin colored borders.
As for the dialogue/though bubbles themselves I can seem to find any "insert shape" inside gimp, you sometimes characters are yelling or crying or just speaking normally has to be shown by the dialogue bubble but I cant seem to be able to do it.
I have used photoshop before but it is very complex and I feel like I can work with GIMP much more easier and faster but none of these basic options seem to be available. Are there addons to install so I can work easier with than making every single dialogue bubble from scratch? *shudder*
Edit: I am using both the new version and the 2.6 version... I find the new version absolutely terrible, especially when it comes to saving your work as an image file but if necessary I will work with both versions.
way to make parallel shapes using the Path Tool similar to Photoshop?
I haven't used Photoshop in a while, but I remember that you could hold CTRL (on PC) and click with the Pen Tool and it would straighten up your shape for you once the paths are connected and would like to do similar in GIMP but can't find out how.
What I'm in the process of doing is creating shapes in Sketchup and exporting them as 2D images. Obviously, those images have a lot of "dead" space around them that I would like to reduce.
I'm able to select a rectangle selection tool and select my image, with the goal of pasting it into a new image which will have much less "white" space around it. My question, is there a more precise way of doing this? I need to cut out an even pixel space, for example, a 128 x 64 (both sides need to be even), how do I know what is the size I'm cutting out? And sometimes it's hard to do correctly do it with my mouse, is there a way to adjust the selection borders with the keyboard instead?
I'm trying to make a logo consisting of a bunch of simple shapes which are all individual layers. All of these layers are on top of a transparent canvas. I'm not sure if canvas is the right word, but basically what I mean is that I launched GIMP and made a new image that's 512x512 filled with transparency, and by default that became a layer titled background which I consider to be the canvas of my entire Image.
I can't seem to draw on new layers anymore. I've been trying to make new layers filled with transparency and draw on them with the free select tool, ensuring that the opacity is not 0 and that the layer is selected, but its drawing on the background layer rather than the layer I made to draw on. So now when I try to adjust the position of the layer, the shape I drew stays in the same spot because its not part of the layer.
I would like to use a vector object made in AI as a custom shape to be used as a cookie cutter in elements.. I imported the AI file in photoshop but the "define custom shape" entry under "edit" was grayed out.

I don't want to re-size it or lose image quality, the background for this can be easily replicated through some simple editing (drawing strait lines with the paint brush tool, and basically filling in to expand the background) Is there a way to do this? Here is the picture I want to change:

I just want it so that the pin-wheel design extends outward as to make the entire image 1920-1200, rather then the 1920-1080 it is now. (without losing image quality of the center wheel.)
I drew something up on a sheet of paper, scanned it, then traced it's bitmap as line art. I then proceded to edit the vectors to recover all the detail I lost with the tracing. It took forever!
Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.
What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?
If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.

But I don't know how to import a photo or how to get rid of it once I have drawn the geometric shapes over it.

I use a lot of predefines shapes, that are saved in various files. i wanna make a way to directly import these shapes, whithout open files and copy/paste the dsired shapes.
I want to take this gif and add a background to it. I've been trying everything I can think of for at least an hour, and now I've completely frustrated myself. It seems like such a simple thing to do, and yet I seem to be over-looking it.

(The upper layer is for example all blue). As I said before, I know that this works. I tried everything out and asked Google a lot of times, but I just can´t figure it out.
What I can remember doing there was just take the blue layer and transfer it to another picture. I was wondering because i didn´t do anything special.

I read many tutorials, but they all don't work for me. The fuzzy tool is useless, because part of the background is always involved in the dress.

I followed their instructions but for whatever reason I cannot load the two pictures into the layer box.
Only one picture shows.
Created test image on a white background. Saved it as a png file. I go to Layer...Transparency....Add Alpha Channel.
I then click fuzzy select tool and click in the white area of the image then hit delete to remove the white background. When I re-save the image, I get the image on a checkered background.

When I color a the background of a photo to alpha it works just fine, I save it and export.
But when I try to open that same photo anywhere else the background is white .

The image in the middle is my .gif, and it is playing on the football field/players/text background. However, when I save the .gif, the background is the 1st frame, and then disappears from the 2nd frame onward as the .gif plays. How can I make the .gif play on the background?
