I am new to GIMP.
I want to import a photo, trace geometric shapes over the photo like circles and lines, and then remove the photo. I have a very basic understanding of LAYERS. I have viewed a few tutorials. But I don't know how to import a photo or how to get rid of it once I have drawn the geometric shapes over it.
I would like to add dimensions to an image.
Kind of like what you would see on a drafting drawing for a construction project: leaders coming off the edges, arrows extending between the leaders, and a dimension indicating the length of a side.
I don't plan to make a sophisticated drawing, so don't need something like AutoCAD, but I would like to indicate, say, the height and width of a rectangle, or the angular measure between sides in a triangle. My images are very simple geometric shapes.
Is this possible in GIMP?
Any way to get the contour lines (as clear as possible) from a photo?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a furniture maker in Japan, and usually take photos of my work on the road next to my shop. I like the texture of the blacktop. Using Gimp, I'm working up the learning curve, and don't know how to remove the white lines and dirt at the upper corners, and extend the pavement to cover it. I'm hopeful that with Gimp, it can be accomplished.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to make a PNG in PP so that there is not a residual trace of the background color. Notice on the picture below. There should be the white circle around the red circle, but then there is also the trace of yellow, which is the background color (and what I chose under PNG Export as the Transparency > Image Color. This has always happened for me using PP and PNGs, and I assume there must be some setting to avoid that so there's a smooth PNG export, but I can't seem to figure it out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create an Action in CS6 that uses "Image Trace" and the preset "High Fidelity Photo", but when the action is run in batch it uses the preset "Default". Can I make "High Fidelity Photo" the default Image Trace?
I also noticed that in the action I created there is a blank line under "Image Tracing" when I expand that step in the action.
I'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.
One more thing that is pretty annoying. I'm working in webdesign and have to work with lines to make designs.
1. There is no chance to scale 1px line to be 2px
2. You cant make from 10px height object 1px line.
From 1px line always staying 1px.
From more than 1px you can make only 2px line not 1px.
Thing happening from X3 to newest X6.
Small things but making my work a bit longer.
system configuration:
Win 7 Pro 64bit, Intel i5-2500, 8 GB RAM, 128 SSD SAMSUNG + 2TB on hard drives.
corel version:

i am doing up some old photos and can remove scratches and the like quite easiely,but i have lines running through them that i cannot remove.

How can I resize many circles to be 1.5 by 1.5 mm, for example, after they have been skewed a bit to make the entire graph the same size as adjacent figures? In other words, I import the graph from elsewhere and to touch it up I have to resize it a bit. Resizing the whole figure distorts the circle to an ellipse and I want to turn it back into a circle. Takes too long to select each shape and indicate the size.

In illustrator, I have placed an image that I created in photoshop. Once I trace and expand it, with the option to ignore white selected, there are still transparent shapes that I have to manually delete. For what I am doing now, it is way too tedious to have to do that. Why, if I'm 'ignoring white' so that I simply get a black/transparent vector image, are these transparent shapes showing up?

I'm trying to import a photo created in photoshop with a transparent background to Adobe Flash and I'm getting a noticeable halo around the photo. This is exported as a PNG-24. I've tried going in to the photoshop file and taking off a little bit, but it still gives me the same outcome. I've also tried exporting as a GIF, and a PNG-8 with a matte. No matter what I do, it leaves the halo.

Although preview of photos to be imported is shown I only get the message that the import could not be carried out (1) and the option to save the data as a :txt file. This was with Lightroom 4. It started first with being unabel to import directly from the camera, then I swithched to inserting the SD card directly into the laptop. This worked only after first downloading to the desktop. Later this didn't work either. I thought the program had become defect. Preview still worked and export is fine. I therefore updated to Lightroom 5 in the hope that this would solve the problem. However everything remains the same. Import still doesn't work with photos of any format. e.g. jpg or RAW.

However, when I do this - the image does not paste in at the same size. It typically shrinks down in size. Do I have to save the file, close out and then open the new doc and PLACE it in the document in order for it to keep size? There must be a better way to do this. Basically, how can I drag a photo that is 4x6 over to a new doc while keeping the size at 4x6.
