GIMP :: How To Add Background To GIF
Jun 3, 2013
I want to take this gif and add a background to it. I've been trying everything I can think of for at least an hour, and now I've completely frustrated myself. It seems like such a simple thing to do, and yet I seem to be over-looking it.

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

I want to change a 1920-1080 p background, into a 1920 - 1200 background.
I don't want to re-size it or lose image quality, the background for this can be easily replicated through some simple editing (drawing strait lines with the paint brush tool, and basically filling in to expand the background) Is there a way to do this? Here is the picture I want to change:
[URL].....
I just want it so that the pin-wheel design extends outward as to make the entire image 1920-1200, rather then the 1920-1080 it is now. (without losing image quality of the center wheel.)

When removing a background..your left with a checkerboard background. When you try to take that image with the checkerboard background, and place it over another image..you can't see the image behind the checkerboard (under it)...how does one correct this...so one can see both images, without "any" background.

How is it possible, to take the brightness of every pixel from the background, and transfer that to the upper layers transparency. (The upper layer is for example all blue). As I said before, I know that this works. I tried everything out and asked Google a lot of times, but I just can´t figure it out.
What I can remember doing there was just take the blue layer and transfer it to another picture. I was wondering because i didn´t do anything special.

I need to edit around 100 pictures like this: [URL].......
Here I already made most of the background white and then tried to adjust the closer background with the Level-Tool, but just influences my dress too much
I read many tutorials, but they all don't work for me. The fuzzy tool is useless, because part of the background is always involved in the dress.
Is there any way to change the background to white and maybe a tutorial for this special kind of picture?

I intend to change a background in Gimp. The following YouTube video ( " How to change the background in Gimp" by kyung51vincent ) shows how it is done.
I followed their instructions but for whatever reason I cannot load the two pictures into the layer box.
Only one picture shows.

Created test image on a white background. Saved it as a png file. I go to Layer...Transparency....Add Alpha Channel.
I then click fuzzy select tool and click in the white area of the image then hit delete to remove the white background. When I re-save the image, I get the image on a checkered background.
Got the instructions from here: [URL] ........
Seems to work with downloaded/created by someone else images but not with images I create myself.

Earlier this week I mentioned on Google+ that I discovered something about gimp that was pretty huge, something that would change how I edit photos forever.
Since then, I've been determined to figre out how to boil this small bit of information, and show you just how much this can work for layer masking and isolating backgrounds, especially in the studio scene and landscape photography. I finally decided to simply do what I do best - record a gimp video tutorial using the method that I discovered, and share it with everyone.
Click here for the gimp video tutorial.

The image in the middle is my .gif, and it is playing on the football field/players/text background. However, when I save the .gif, the background is the 1st frame, and then disappears from the 2nd frame onward as the .gif plays. How can I make the .gif play on the background?

I have tried using Textures mainly for replacing the background on a photo. So far I have been able to do it but alot of the times the main subject in the image is covered by the texture. My goal is to replace the background only with a texture and leave the rest of the image as is.

I have followed about a dozen tutorials on how to make a background transparent and it seems as though I am doing everything right but... When I go to import my new image to PrintMaster it gives me a warning that the transparency may turn black. It does darken the transparency and has a noticable rectangle around the image that should have a transparent background. I have tried exporting the image in every form possible and nothing seems to work.

I created a transparent digital signature png from a scanned original handwritten signature. It works fine for adding a signature to pdf documents with a white background.
For those times when the background is other shading/pattern, say a 'grayscale' looking shading/pattern...I want to 'adapt' the background of the signature.png to that of the pdf.
So in practice open the pdf, select an area that has different shading/pattern up to the clipboard, and make the background of the signature the same as that in clipboard; with hopes the background will 'blend' into the pdf.

GIMP are going to come up with a tool like the refine edge tool that is availale in Photoshop. I really need some way of removing the background of some of the pictures I use. I have attached an example of an image that I would like to remove the background and replace it. I have spent hours trying to work out how to do it successfully.

I have spent some time trying, in PaintShop Pro 7, to create an image with a transparent background to use as a layer over an underlying jpg.
I have now done it in Gimp, and tried it over another image in Gimp - it works. But when I export the image either as a GIF or as a JPG there is no transparency when I paste it over another image in PaintShop Pro.
Perhaps it would be easier to do the whole thing in Gimp, but it would be convenient to be able to do it in PSP too.

Tried using this tutorial: [URL].......
trying to separate non-contiguous letters from a background so as to make the background transparent. I've used various methods including the gimp tutorial referenced above, and am having problems both selecting everything I need and with the transparency.
When I use the foreground select tool as in the tutorial, I can select the first line, 1812, but not the next two. Color values off some? Anyway, after successfully selecting at least the 1812 part, I do the next steps: invert the selection, add alpha channel, del background; and end up with a transparent background and a 'kind of' transparent 1812. If I try to save it as a png and open it in any other program it's just empty or black.

I have an image that I want to extend the background on. So basically, I am making the people smaller, but the background larger..if that makes sense? I'm trying to make a collage, and i want the background of one photo to be the background of my canvas. The background it just "grey-ish", but not solid. I know I could clone, or copy and paste a part of the image into the background, but am wondering if there's a way to "stretch" just a portion of the image maybe? Or if I could copy a small part of it, but when I paste it, change the shape or size it's being pasted into?

i have an image..which happens to be my business card and to begin with, it was an .eps file, but i converted it to a .jpg...what i am wanting to figure out, and do with it is use it for my web page i am building
it has a background on it and on top of it it has my text...i am wanting to keep the text also, but my main concern is to use just the background for my website....how is extracting the back ground away from the text possible in GIMP and also saving the text as well.

Before I pass along to you my request, I'd like to point out that I have watched tutorial, after tutorial on how to remove an image from a background. Every thing goes great, "step by step", (my project compared to tutorial) right to the final procedure. Then my image either turns "white/black", or disappears (lets just say the project does not pan out compared to tutorials). But everything is "fine", right up to final phase. How to do the following....
1. Extract an image from a background (any kind) of background.
2. Instruct me how to take the extracted image, and "save" it to file, to use it in "another" project, at a later time.
3. How to take an image (for instance, a large hole in a tree) and take another image, and place it in there. Inside this hole in the tree, I want to take an image, and "blend" it into the hole in the tree. Another wards,I don't want to just place a vivid "sharp" image into the hole in the tree, I want a " halo/gradual fade out from tree, to a gradual fade in to object placed in tree. I hope you understand my description. Basically, going from a sharp vivid image, to a gradual blending of another image in hole of tree.

I am trying to create a form with a watermark image in Publisher 2013 and the text I want to overlay on the watermark is cut from an image I screenshot, so it has a white background, making overlaying a watermark impossible. There are boxes and bubbles and other items that I really do not want to re-create so that's why I am trying to do this first, before re-creating the entire forms from scratch.
Anyway, what I want to do is A. remove all of the white from the background (even in the spaces between the e's an B's and everything; yes I know it is insane, but I like things to be perfect) and B. I would like to darken the text. Currently is is almost gray-ish and I want it to be black.

What is the best way to paste an image into a background and have it blend nicely with the background to avoid jaggies.
I've been playing with the blur and smudge icon but then it depends on my eye and I lose resolution around the edges. I guess what I would want ideally is for a way to paste my image then have a slider or a way to select the amount of anti aliasing from image to background.
