GIMP :: Textures For Replacing Background
Dec 27, 2013
I have tried using Textures mainly for replacing the background on a photo. So far I have been able to do it but alot of the times the main subject in the image is covered by the texture. My goal is to replace the background only with a texture and leave the rest of the image as is.

I'm struggling a bit with replacing colors .
1. I have a photo of a cat whose eyes are highly reflective of light. The color is not red but white. In another photo I have a photo of a dog whose eyes came out as bright green.
I'm wondering, in GIMP 2.8 for Windows XP Pro, how I might remove those colors and substitute the animal's true colors or something more natural? It's not red eye or else I would try the Red Eye removal feature.
2. I have a third photo of a dog lying next to papers. I'd like to substitute, perhaps, the blond/brown desk color over those white papers so that it looks like there are no papers in the photo.
Is there an easy way to do that? I was reading about an EXIF plug-in named Save for Web which is supposed to remove prior info about your photos. Will that plug-in work once I make the eye color and white papers changes in my photos?

I have here an image of a good family friend , replace the background of this photo to something more studio-like... like a cloth backdrop, or something that will naturally flow well with the portrait image (also with the chair remaining in the image ).

i need to replace every dot with an image of an object (like an apple or ball). 014 .bmp

the image should be in the same size as the dot.
since i have lots of dots and lots of pictures, is there a way to "select and replace"?

I'd like to achieve an effect similar to the one shown here:
[URL]
What I need to do...
1.) Take screenshots of various pages of code (did this)
2.) Use masks (or maybe not) to apply some sort of texture behind each screenshot
3.) Use a perspective effect to rotate each page of code to varying extents
4.) Use masks and transparency (or maybe not?) to paste the pages on top of each other in layers
I should be looking up and combining to get there, and with other specifics.
Regarding (1), do I want to capture screenshots of black text on a white background? Or, the reverse? Regarding (2) and (4), are these right?

I want to do for X plane 10. As x plane uses only a single texture per object i need to create a texture which would contain all faces of a building e.g. the roof / front / back etc.. , i tried one by making a 1024x1024 area and imported the other images and saved them as a single jpg. but the texture is not showing up.

Is there a way to select a portion of an image, and create patterns/textures that fill the selection?
If yes, is there the option of using my own images as the pattern/texture to be used? And is there the option to fill the selection either randomly or pattern-like? 'Noise' is not what I'm looking for.

How to make textures look great around the edges and blend nicely with the background.
Here's a sample of my problem, here's how the texture starts to look:
Here's it is rendered against a smoky light colored backdrop:
Here's how I want it to look, the edges are so nice!:
Here's the above ball zoomed in:
I can add shading in the .png file but then I can't render it properly as the shaded geometry messes up when I created the transparent background.

I'm currently using GIMP for making textures for a 3D game. These textures are drawn by hand and making those "tileable" is a bit awkward most of the time. There's all sorts of manual methods but I'm wondering if there's something that will take care of this in real time. Anyway what I'm looking for:
Is there a way to create layer groups which contain the very same layers at different locations? Or displaying the same layer group in two places next to each other? So stuff I draw in one place is "cloned" in real time to another layer or group? What I want is the ability draw seamlessly, so when I draw at or past the layer borders on the bottom I automatically draw at the top border.
I can kinda achieve this manually either by offsetting a layer or by making the layer bigger in size than the texture I want and then cutting and pasting the details beyond the actual texture size to the opposite side. But those are very awkward procedures, especially when working with many layers that have to be drawn and edited separately. Is there maybe some automated feature that takes care of this for me in real time?

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

I am a texture designer as a hobby for an online game called Eternal Lands.
Ususally I just make my own textures, but I wanted to edit an existing texture this time. The texture is for armor called Red Dragon Armor, it has red scales on it.
I want to replace these red scales (without taking away the details such as the streaking and the scratches) with gold. I tried using "Color select" then "colorify" but it didn't come out quite right.
What is the usual method for changing the color of a section of an image if there are details and you don't want to use the "bucket fill" option?

I want to change a 1920-1080 p background, into a 1920 - 1200 background.
I don't want to re-size it or lose image quality, the background for this can be easily replicated through some simple editing (drawing strait lines with the paint brush tool, and basically filling in to expand the background) Is there a way to do this? Here is the picture I want to change:
[URL].....
I just want it so that the pin-wheel design extends outward as to make the entire image 1920-1200, rather then the 1920-1080 it is now. (without losing image quality of the center wheel.)

When removing a background..your left with a checkerboard background. When you try to take that image with the checkerboard background, and place it over another image..you can't see the image behind the checkerboard (under it)...how does one correct this...so one can see both images, without "any" background.

How is it possible, to take the brightness of every pixel from the background, and transfer that to the upper layers transparency. (The upper layer is for example all blue). As I said before, I know that this works. I tried everything out and asked Google a lot of times, but I just can´t figure it out.
What I can remember doing there was just take the blue layer and transfer it to another picture. I was wondering because i didn´t do anything special.

I need to edit around 100 pictures like this: [URL].......
Here I already made most of the background white and then tried to adjust the closer background with the Level-Tool, but just influences my dress too much
I read many tutorials, but they all don't work for me. The fuzzy tool is useless, because part of the background is always involved in the dress.
Is there any way to change the background to white and maybe a tutorial for this special kind of picture?

Created test image on a white background. Saved it as a png file. I go to Layer...Transparency....Add Alpha Channel.
I then click fuzzy select tool and click in the white area of the image then hit delete to remove the white background. When I re-save the image, I get the image on a checkered background.
Got the instructions from here: [URL] ........
Seems to work with downloaded/created by someone else images but not with images I create myself.

Earlier this week I mentioned on Google+ that I discovered something about gimp that was pretty huge, something that would change how I edit photos forever.
Since then, I've been determined to figre out how to boil this small bit of information, and show you just how much this can work for layer masking and isolating backgrounds, especially in the studio scene and landscape photography. I finally decided to simply do what I do best - record a gimp video tutorial using the method that I discovered, and share it with everyone.
Click here for the gimp video tutorial.
