GIMP :: How To Change 1920-1080p Background Into 1920-1200 Background
May 4, 2012
I want to change a 1920-1080 p background, into a 1920 - 1200 background.
I don't want to re-size it or lose image quality, the background for this can be easily replicated through some simple editing (drawing strait lines with the paint brush tool, and basically filling in to expand the background) Is there a way to do this? Here is the picture I want to change:
[URL].....
I just want it so that the pin-wheel design extends outward as to make the entire image 1920-1200, rather then the 1920-1080 it is now. (without losing image quality of the center wheel.)

I have started a new video project with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 in Photoshop CS6with a pixel aspect ratio set to square.. In the project I add a video to the timeline. The source video was created in QuickTime and exported at a 1920 x 1080 resolution MOV file. I have check both the source clip at the canvas siye and have confirmed that both are 1920 x 1080. However, when I import the video it takes up less than the entire frame. It appears that the video is being scaled down so that there is some white space to the right and below the video clip. See the image below.
In the past I have been able to import 1920x1080 video to a 1920x1080 project without a problem. I have 4 or 5 examples that have worked well.

I have an image that is a cellphone picture of a magazine picture. It is 1952 X 3264 pixels tall and skinny. It is mostly blackish but has a red line drawing in it.
I would like to make a layer(?) that is 4352 X 3264 (4x3 ratio) that is all black then put the original image on it (as a different layer?). After that I would like to put a very light smoky-haze over it all. Lastly resize it to 1200 X 1600 and reduce the file size to a reasonable size.

(what i've been using is photoshop) and my problem is that I want to save a jpg file, so I create a document at 1920x1080 pixels at 300 dpi and once finished I go to the option of export and set it to 300 dpi and it saves it at 8000x4500? when I set it to 72 dpi there is no problem and saves at 1920x1080, but I want it at 300 dpi and not such a big file that sometimes it doesn't even have enough memory to save.

I just installed VS X3 and I'm very impressed with the improved AVCHD editing capabilities. Unfortunately, I'm having a problem with the output. When I import a single AVCHD 1920 clip from my Canon HF100 to my VS X3 project, perform a simple trimming operation, and then save back to the same format as the original clip (no re-rendering), the output file is virtually unplayable. It will usually start playing okay, but after 5-10 seconds start stuttering and even stop playing altogether for 10-15 seconds at a time. I've tried several different players. This problem affects ONLY the output from VS X3. The original footage in the same format plays just fine in any player.
I reverted back to VS X2, tried the same operation with the same clip, and the output is just fine. This must not be a widespread problem, because I searched the forum briefly and couldn't find similar reports. I can continue using VS X2 for the time being, but I really wish I could take advantage of the editing improvements in X3.

I have some fotos that are apparently too small for the 1920 x 1080 format of my film.
What do I need to master about the relationship between three items (canvas size, image size, and document size) so that I can smoothly resize a bunch of images in Photoshop for export into Premiere Pro in that 1920 x 1080 format?
I will be constraining my proportions... if the images are too big, I will do a Ken Burns "zoom out" effect in the film.

I intend to change a background in Gimp. The following YouTube video ( " How to change the background in Gimp" by kyung51vincent ) shows how it is done.
I followed their instructions but for whatever reason I cannot load the two pictures into the layer box.
Only one picture shows.

I created a transparent digital signature png from a scanned original handwritten signature. It works fine for adding a signature to pdf documents with a white background.
For those times when the background is other shading/pattern, say a 'grayscale' looking shading/pattern...I want to 'adapt' the background of the signature.png to that of the pdf.
So in practice open the pdf, select an area that has different shading/pattern up to the clipboard, and make the background of the signature the same as that in clipboard; with hopes the background will 'blend' into the pdf.

I am using the Color Exchange feature in Gimp 2. I am trying to change a red background to black. The Color Exchange feature allows me to do that, however, it comes out with only part of the color changed and it all very blotchy.
Here is a screenshot of what happens after I select the red square and do a Color Exchange from red to black.

I have an image with an transparent background. I want to change all pixels that are not the background to one color. How do I do this? I can't select the pixels, they as arbitrariliy distibuted. I've played with threshold, but that's not working either. I tried Image-->Mode -> Indexed and then Use black and white palette, but that doesn't work either. I thought i would convert all non-transparent values to black, but instead its picking some threshold and making some black and others transparent. Example file attached.

I have been trying to change the background color of the photographs of jewelry I took. It is too grey, and I want to change it to white. Each time I try to do this, it changes the whole picture to white instead of just the background. How I can keep the foreground without losing it, and change the background color.

I find the red text and black background that the Gimp Help uses very difficult for my eyes. I see you're using the same format here, too.
Is there some way I can change it in those two places: the Help thing and here?

On this one particular gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1 for icon use. Somehow whenever I choose that color and use the bucket tool to fill in the background I instead have the background become doe8a0 (the things that look like o's are zeros). I have no clue why it gives me such a different color.
Here's the gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1.

I'm new to Gimp and to here and am amazed to find a product like this for free I have virtually no experience with editing programs like this.
I have a portrait picture of someone but I don't like the background and would like to edit it without changing the picture of the person?
Is this possible with Gimp?
How would I do this and is it easy?

what I want is for a single image that has a white background to be changed into an image with a transparent background. Just the white background, not the things in the image. (I mean like when the image is in a word document that has a black background, the image will only show the person inside it and the white background of the image can not be seen.) Is there a way I can do this on GIMP?

I'm trying to change the white background on a picture of myself to be transparent. When I use the "Color to Alpha" tool, it works, but when I paste the photo into word/powerpoint/etc not only does it turn the white background 100% transparent but it also makes the whole image slightly transparent.
How can I make the white background disappear without making the whole image transparent? I want to use color to alpha because if I simply use the magic wand tool and delete the white area there is still some white showing through my hair.

If I have a red flower on a multi-coloured background, and I want to make the background black. I select the flower using the magic scissors (tried selecting by colour but nothing happened), invert, then whichever method I follow to achieve the black background, it's always the flower that changes colour, not the background. I've tried not inverting it, it gives the same result. I can only change the colour of the selected subject, not the background. I have followed all the steps in different tutorials, always with the same result. GIMP 2.8.4.

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

How I choose a color for any new objects I want to create. I've opened the toolbox with ctrl-b, which appears on the left side of the window. If I want to , for example, draw a red rectangle, I use the rectangular selection tool, then the bucket fill, and I don't see how to change the foreground color to red.
I've read elsewhere in the forum that there should be two rectangles somewhere on the screen that show foreground and background color, but I don't see them anywhere.
