GIMP :: Boxes Lined Up Like Vertical Window Blinds?
Feb 10, 2012
I'd like to create three bordered/round-corner boxes (containers) for text, across a web page. But I'd like them not to just be flat in a row. My idea is to put the text in each three in-a-row boxes and them somehow turn the boxes(containers) out slightly like loovers (like vertical window blinds), so they look a little more interesting. The text wouldn't then be viewed straight-on but look like it's at an angle because of the loovered containers that the text is in.
Just the other day I switched from Windows XP, AutoCAD 2010 (with ProSteel) to Windows 7 (64bit), AutoCAD 2012 (with same version of ProSteel).
Since then I have been noticing that a specific ProSteel dialogue box (Shape/Plate Properties) always resets to it default display. Those of you familiar with ProSteel may know that the Shape/Plate Properties dialogue box has a bunch of expandable tabs/pages on the left hand side, generally speaking I would always like all of these tabs to be expanded each time I open this dialogue box. This has alway been how the 2 previous versions of ProSteel have behaved in the past, until now.
Every time I open this particular dialogue box, all the tabs/pages on the left of the dialogue box are contracted, and must be expanded if I am to access them.
Sounds like a small issue, but it is proving to have quite a large impact... with the amount of times I enter and exit this dialogue box.
As a new user I really prefer the single window mode but have a real problem in that every time I open a filter the window/box that open opens up underneath the single window and I cant see it without minimising the main gimp window. I've played with the preferences windows management options and seem to have all the file options curves etc on top now (these were opening under the single window at one point) but nothing I do seems to want to make the filter boxes open where I can see them - It's making GIMP quite unpleasant to use.
how to change the fabrics in curtains on photoshop?
I can change it so there is a block of a different fabric but it needs to be more transparent so you can see the curves and folds in the curtain in the origional picture but I do not want to see the orgional fabric. Is there anyway of doing this?
I want to do a glow effect on a logo that I am working on.. the problem is that all the tutorials I've seen are for single text boxes. I will need to have different sizes and fonts so it requires more than one text box. I can edit the first text box to where I can "path from text," add a new layer, "select from path," create an outline using the "grow" effect and then blur the it so it looks like a soft edge with a different color than the text. I would like to do this for each text box, but when I add a new layer for a new letter and attempt to "select from path" it will only highlight the letter that I've already completed with the glow effect. I'm thinking I will have to save the file each time I create a new glow letter and reopen as a new file to add one more glow letter... but is there a faster way? I've attached a screen shot... the whole logo will read like this:

The A,W, and G will be larger and in a different font than the lowercase letters when its done. SO I will have 6 text boxes total.
I was working on a PDF and I successfully exported it back to PDF once, but there was more work that I needed to do to the PDF. When I changed what I wanted and saved again it gave me little boxes with cirlces in between numbers I had added in a text box. I tried to save it as a JPG and that worked. However, I need to save it as a PDF..
Also to clarify. This is what shows up on the exported PDF. This does NOT show up on an exported JPG or on the document when edited in GIMP.

Here's the situation. I have a block that will be inserted showing a piece of angle iron that is used for a stiffener. We have various sizes that will need to be used. Instead of typing in the angle size each time it's inserted can I have a list of all the angle sizes and then a pick box or radial dial or something to be selected and that is what is put in the block?
I'm trying to do a quick project for work and I can't seem to get vertical text to work how I want it to in Gimp 2.8. Gimp 2.6 did vertical text by just typing what you wanted and rotating the layer. With that same process in 2.8, the text rotates, but the layer doesn't. Which means the rotated text gets cut off. Furthermore, when I try to change the size of the layer, Gimp decides it has to undo the rotation first. It's beyond frustrating at this point. Especially because this is such a basic thing to do.
I'm trying to make vertical banners, and I need to get the text to go vertical......how do I do that? I've dug through all of the text tool options I could find, and pretty much anything I could think of, and still no luck.
I know how to make a solid straight line using the pencil tool. I know I can create a shape with a border using stroke and select area. But...
How do you make a straight vertical dashed (dotted) line?
Something about paths and holding down the shift key, but that doesn't do anything, no line shows and it doesn't like "snap" to a vertical position.
I'm trying to make a dotted line to be line a guide line for cutting when you print the image out on paper. Like the perforated line on a movie ticket or boarding pass.
I am using GIMP 2.6.11 (portble app). I took a source TIFF (56MB) and scaled it to 1 inch width, then I created a transparent background by creating Alpha Channel then using FUZZY tool then I CLEARED the background. I then saved to PNG with compression 2. The image looks OK in Windows Viewer but when I put it in an IMAGE control in MS Access 2010 I see thick vertical bands in the blue lettering of the logo.
In the example, the red text is along the path (dotted red line). Normally the letters would slant too, but is there a way to keep them vertically oriented while doing text-to-path?
So, I'm trying to make moods for forums like this: and I don't know how to make my text move vertically or horizontally. The person who made this uses Gimp as well, so I know there is a way.
The first problem I've encountered... is I can't even draw a circle or curve with Photoshop, because there is ALWAYS a straight edge somewhere!
When I am moving the brush tool directly left, right, up or down - I can make a perfectly straight line. But when I move it in an arc shape for example, it's like it's always trying to go back into a straight line instead of just cuuuuuurve...
Know what I mean? I am no noob to computers, I think it may have something to do with pixels being squares... But the thing is, I see a lot of paintings done in Photoshop that look so photo-realistic, perfect curvature and stuff. So there is a way!
I'm trying to make a "gag" gift for a friend.. his face on a fake $25 canadian bill. I'm doing this by changing a $20 bill. If you look at the Queen's photo, it's not a photo at all, but her image made out of simple lines. Instead of just pasting his photo over the Queen, I'd like to create that same effect.
I have created a couple of dynamic blocks for profiled window surrounds for both a square top window and arched window. I have accomplished the square top window, but creating the arch top has proven quite difficult.
What I need is roughly the same setup as the square top, using the XY parameter set and entering the width and height so the window stretches accordingly, however on the arch top, I am needing to add a parameter to enter the "chord" dimension. I basically need another user imput parameter to facilitate the peak of the inside radius (currently shown at 4'0-5/8") in the attached drawing bordered by "DYNAMIC BLOCKS." I am not sure on which parameter to add to stretch the arch at the designated "arrow." and even once that is figured, how to make the arches that are stacked above it to stretch properly. I added Horizontal Dim constraints which seemed to work, however upon further review once stretched, the outer arch doesnt stretch properly (Review Example 1). It is supposed to be like "2" and "3". Basically as you offset the inside pline out 6" the intersection is supposed to adjust and not stay stationary.
Also on a side note, I added vertical constraints and Dim Vertical Constraints to the "legs" of the window profile because as the inside arch was stretched the legs would not produce logical results.
I have been using Elements 8 for some time and recently purchased an ASUS monitor that is at home in both vertical and horizontal modes. Can I change the Elements 8 format to work in a vertical format to accommodate the larger size possible with a vertical image. It is difficult to manipulate the functions in Elements when the mouse is working in a horizontal mode and you are viewing a large image in a vertical format. If the format of the Elements 8 software can be changes to vertical, any protocol (directions) to accomplish this?
While using the 3D extrude and bevel tool, specifically the isometric preset from the position drop down menu. I am noticing that when I expand the shape (in this case a perfect cube), the vertical paths are not exactly perfect, and are not truly vertical, but off slightly. Is this something that can be fixed or adjusted in the settings, or is this how the tool works?
How to put a lined page border around my page. In MS WORD it is very straight forward but I must be missing the obvious here though my 15 year old daughter can't work it out either which makes her old dad feel a little bit better about it.
I have a linked table (linked to an Excel spreadsheet) in my drawing. I would like to set the transparency of the lines in the table in ACA to about 80% - BUT I want the text in the table to stay at 0% transparent. Is there a way to do this? I get the whole table, text and all, at 80% when I try.
When I attach a titleblock as an xref in paperspace, it is not lined up on my page that I have set up. It attaches to the upper right hand corner of my screen and I have to manually move it on top of my paperspace. I know there is a way to have them automatically line up.
I'm using the DaylightBasin Subassembly along with the "Place Lined Material" option & it works everywhere except along the flat 0% (very bottom portion of the ditch).

I'm trying to create an assembly and there's one part of one piece I'm struggling with. I attached a quick sketch I made of it. I'm struggling with the bend portion that I lined in. If my drawing doesn't make sense, that piece is 5" long, the bend is 5/8", and it's a cylinder. I'm sure it's really easy but I'm blanking. I've tried the bend tool to no avail.
I have a double-lined duct lisp but I would like the duct size to automatically be inserted. Now I have to type it separately. (AutoCAD Architecture 2010)
I have been having problems with images that I save appearing to be more saturated and have more contrast than the edit looks in the GIMP window. I tried playing around to figure out what it might be and found that when I open an image in GIMP, the image displayed in the program is less saturated and less contrasty than the original image without any changes made. When I save the unedited image, the new image looks like the old image, both more saturated and contrasty than the image displayed in the GIMP window. Because of the color change in the GIMP window, all of my edits are pointless because it is not showing me the correct outcome. My images are originally JPG format and I save/export in JPG format. Attached is a screencap. The original image/what the unedited saved image looks like is in the preview window on the right. The image on the left is the unedited image opened in the GIMP window.
After installing GIMP 2.8.4 when launching program all I get is the LAYER-BRUSH Toolbox, no main window No menus,. it seems everything may be opening off screen but im not sure.
I have a netbook Acer AspireOne D255e, which max resolution is 1024x600. When I try to run GIMP, it's impossible to use it, because all the tools disappear on the window.
Is there the possibility to resize the GIMP window to fit on my screen?
