AutoCad :: Xref Lines Still Printing But Turned Off

Feb 23, 2011

I have a drawing that has a xref drawing inserted in it, that has lines still printing when they turned off off in the xref drawing, now I have got around this by selecting not to print in the xref drawing layer manager, but I do not understand why they are still printing if they are turned off ?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Drawing Lines Lag With Dynamic Input Turned On?

May 10, 2011

We recently switched to 64-bit ACAD on dell M6500 laptops. I used to use dynamic input all the time, but after the switch I noticed when using Dynamic input turned on, when you go to draw a LINE, after you pick the first point, the mouse "lags" and becomes "glitchy".  I had the problem "fixed" once by our IT guy, he updated the driver or something and everything was fine.

But now it is doing it again.

AutoCad :: Xref Barely Visible When Printing Drawing

Jun 13, 2011

I am using MEP 2012, I have arch back rounds on in a Xref. Everything seems to be fine and work well. When we go to print the drawing on with the xref on it is barely visible. If I open the xref up and print it comes out fine. I have inserted the xref to its own layer.I do not know what to do from here.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Xref Not Printing In Hardcopy

Oct 13, 2011

I’ve attached a dwf as an xref and set up a viewport, however when i print the viewport contents show up on screen, and in the PDF, but if i print it to the physical printer, nothing comes out except the lines i drew in that drawing (i.e. the polylines as references for where my viewport is).

I’ve come across this before in an older version of AutoCAD but have forgotten how to solve it.

Also, is it possible to bind a DWF?  its seems you can do it with other things but not this file type.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Lines Won't Appear On Top Of A Xref

Nov 20, 2013

I have a drawing with one viewport. In model space I have attached a jpg. If I draw a line over the xref in model space, it looks fine. When I switch to paper space, the line does not show, but if I plot to a pdf, it does. If I draw on paperspace, above the viewport, the line does not show.

The jpg is black lines on a white background. If I draw a line across it in model space, it shows up as the correct color (in this case it's red) but when I switch to paperspace it turns white and is invisible over the image.

I tried to change the display order, but no win. I checked the properties of the line and the xref itself and it all looks good. Everything is set "by layer".

AutoCAD 2010 :: Publish Printing Frozen Xref Layers?

Sep 1, 2011

When a drawing is printed using PLOT the drawing is printed fine. If I batch plot (or publish) it prints all the frozen layers of the xref and also prints the layers as assigned by the XREF drawing and not the new colours I have specified for this drawing.

So I go into the xref to turn the layer off, but the lines are nowhere to be found in the xref drawing!? I have been through all the basics like turning all the layers on and off etc... I will attach an image showing the lines.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Literal Dim Lines In Xref Drawings

Jan 18, 2013

So, I am working off a site drawing of an 80,000 sq ft production plant that was drawn by some old school drafters using probably AC 14.  Most of the departments are drawn in xrefs.  However, probably 10+ people worked on this project of mapping the plant so nothing is the same.  I cannot describe the frustration of inconsistencies of this drawing.  Alas, my question: some of my xrefs are shown in literal dim lines, what is going on?  When you go to the original xref, the lines are as bright as they always are.  When the xref is in the main drawing, the lines are dimmer than everything else.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Xref Layers Do Not Print Correctly When Hiding Lines

Oct 24, 2012

I am having an issue with plotting a drawing that includes an xref. I have also included an attachment as reference.

I am working in AutoCAD 2010; I have a drawing that includes another drawing as an xref. The xref is on layer “0” in model space and my titleblock, annotation and viewports are in paper space (layout tab). I am using color dependent plot styles (.STB). The xref is a 3D model created with basic AutoCAD solids representing steel shapes, there are also some line segments representing the steel centerlines. The viewport is a plan view of the 3D steel model, the view is not clipped. Since the xref contains 3D objects when I print the drawing I don't want the “hidden” lines to show up, I accomplish this by setting the viewport shade plot setting to “HIDDEN”.

Here is the problem:

When I print the drawing the xref’s layers do not print correctly but rather take on the properties of layer “0” which has a plot style of “NORMAL” so everything prints in color and with a default lineweight. I want the xref to print using the xref’s layer properties that are defined in the .STB file. One variable that changes the outcome of the printed drawing is the viewport shade plot setting.

If the viewport shade plot is set to HIDDEN the xref prints using layer “0” properties (undesired) and the3D object lines are hidden (desired). See attached Viewport #1

If the viewport shade plot is set to AS DISPLAYED the xref prints using the xref’s layer properties (desired) but the 3D object lines are not hidden (undesired). See attached Viewport #2

The ONLY difference between the two viewports is the shade plot setting, there are no layer overrides and only the xref objects are affected, the objects in paper space print as expected. This only happens with an xref or block. If I bind the xref into the drawing and explode it so the objects are “live” in the drawing everything works fine. Unfortunately I need it to work correctly with an xref.

If I use a color dependent plot style (.CTB) where the .CTB file controls the color and lineweight I am able to achieve the desired results, unfortuneatly my company is determined to use .STB files

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Feature Lines Color Display When Xref Into Another Drawing

Why do our feature lines all come in as the color white when xreffed into a drawing? Feature lines show up just fine in our topo drawing, so then we xref it into our design drawing and they all show as if the color is white when is is not in the layer properties.  All other items (symbols, points, and lines) come in as the color they were drawn in the topo drawing.

AutoCAD LT :: Printing Grid Lines Not Allowed?

Nov 16, 2013

I remember being able to select 'Print Grid' back when I used AutoCAD 2000, but never needed to print the grid lines until about a year ago. AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT cannot do this. It seems only AutoCAD Civil 3D users have this option. Basically I need to print the drawing with a grid on paper and/or a mobile device so a field technician can draw conditions to scale easily and accurately. I realize this must not be in high demand, but there are a number of users who have asked about this. They are told that it is only a 'drawing aid' and they should array their construction lines to print their own grid. This is not a good solution for repetition of printing scaled field drawings, and certainly not 'state of the art' technology. Is this feature removed so we will have to search out the higher priced product? It seems like 'Print Grid' could be easily returned to all AutoCAD. Probably just a system variable that was removed when we weren't looking.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Faded Lines - Printing To PDF

Mar 6, 2013

When printing in AutoCAD 2011 when using the "DWG to PDF.pc3" printer, many lines in the resulting PDF are faded while others appear fine.  I can zoom in and all the lines appear with the same weight.  There are multiple layers on the drawing but all contain the same line weight and lines on the same layer appear with different weights.

This occurs on all AutoCAD files and all users.  I have tried changing pin assignments with no success.  Printing directly to Adobe PDF does not result in this issue but with each sheet of drawing being a different file this process uses a lot of time.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Lines Not Printing Behind Screen

Jan 17, 2013

I have a drawing with a screen and behind it is an xref drawing. When I print it to our KIP plotter the lines and other items behind the screen do not plot.

Here is how it is setup and what I have tried

The Xref itself is on its own layer and all the layers of the xref are set to a color that has thickness of .0138 and a 35% screen.

The hatch resides in the active drawing and is set to a color that is also .0138 thick but at a 20% screen.

The hatch is a DOT hatch at scale 1, but I have also tried it as a solid hatch

Lines merge is on and needs to be on.

I have made sure that the hatch is sent to the back and that there is no overlapping of data from other sources liek a second hatch or the same data in another xref etc.

I also tried setting the xref layers to another color that is .0256 thick with a 35% screen, but the results where the same. If i change the xref layers to a .0138 thick color with 100% screen, they do print over the hatch then.
