AutoCad :: Updating Text From Tables?

Long ago, everything was done in Imperial and now we are converting to Metric, the issue is that the drawings we have no schedule of members and we (a colleague and I) are constantly discovering new members, this is causing no end of trouble with our numbering system.
What we would like to do is set up a master-table with 5 categories (UB, UC, PFC, EA and UA) and then have the labels for all the members dependent on this table. If we were to change the value in the table, the label would automatically update. Is this at all possible? I looked into the Xref and RText commands and they seem close but not quite there. Ideally the table would be in a separate dwg so we can work on drawings at the same time.

We are moving to a new drafting standard which uses .STB plots rather than .CTB. I'm wondering if there is any way of changing the layer of the text within the cells. I want the title to be at a certain thickness, the headers to be a different thickness, and the data to be a different thickness again when plotting. This is easy to do when using .CTB plot styles, but is there a way to do it when using .STB?

There doesnt seem to be a way to control the lineweight of text in a table. I have changed the color of the text and I have applied a lineweight to the table but the text is way too light. I spent a bunch of time putting info into tables and it looks like total crap and I cant seem to change it. What is up with this?

Is there any way to control the line spacing when you have text within a cell of a table? Specifically I want to change the spacing to act similar to 'EXACTLY  1.0' like in the MTEXT editor. Please see the included dwg.

Basically, it replaces this text inside a table:
1 1/2" NPTM - A53 - 3000LB - A-53 - 3000 LB
with:
thread both ends.
But I'm limited to the size of pipe, it's material and its pressure rating. I can't change how the text in the field is populated. It would be nice if, it did a search for NPTM, and when that string exists in the string, change it to "thread both ends".
Essentially right now, I have 46 lines (and growing) of different scenarios. I just want the NPTM to trigger the string change.

I've cut and "paste special" a table from excel to autocad, and would like to edit several (not all) cell's text color from the default (in this case white) to the bylayer color.
When I set up my table style I specified the text to be bylayer, however apparently a paste from excel ignores the setting.

I decided to use Data Link Tables for my Excel sheet instead of OLELinks. The appearance is far sharper, and I am also pleased there is no background color transfered. What IS the problem is when I update the table, its goes from 12" Wide by 12" Tall table @ 7/16" Text W/O borders back to 3" Wide by 10" Tall with varying text size to fit and gains back all borders except diagonals (of which none are present on the Excel file).
So, any way to default the format when I refresh so that it holds each cell at the 6"X1" dimensions with no border.
With that, If there is a way to have a stencil for making the range links with Excel, that would be useful. I use the exact same 4 or 6 ranges (2 formats) in every dwg.

Occasionally the text is upside down in tables (mirrored, not 180 degrees). This seems to mostly happen after I copy another table and edit the information. The mirrored text actually is hidden until you double click the cell to edit it. Now, after playing around with one of these cases I can't even select the text at all, it is completely hidden and I can't type anything in the cell.

I've got some Text Layers in my CS6 document.

In CS5, if I had Text Layers and changed the text on the layer (by double-clicking the "T" icon of the specific Layer in the Layers palette), the name of the Layer would change to reflect the new text I entered.

For some reason this behavior is gone in CS6. So, for example:

• I have a Text Layer with the word "Email" on my canvas. The Text Layer name also reads "Email".
• I double-click the "T" icon of the Email Layer to edit the text on canvas.
• I enter new text, "Contact". The text on canvas updates to "Contact", but the Layer Name remains "Email".

So, for accurate Layer names, I find myself having to change the text twice: once on the canvas, and then manually updating the Layer name as well. Is there an option or preference somewhere that I'm missing that would re-enable the behavior from CS5?

I have some sample lines that highlight utilities needing a section view. I've now moved my sample line to highlight the true cross section stationing for these crossings. Why doesn't the station value update for the sample line once this is moved. For some reason I remember the station text on the sample line updating itself automatically in the past.

I extracted a dynamic feature line from the gutter flowline of my Corridor. I labeled Multiple Segments for the feature line with a grade and vertex style that uses the  "General Segment Grade" text component.
I am overiding lane cross slopes in the Section Editior and the segment grade labels for the extracted feature line do not update after I Update Corridor in the Section Editior.Â
If I raise/lower the CL profile of the corridor, the label updates. Just not reacting to these Corridor edits.
Peculiar behavior: The label will update to reflect the Corridor update if I Isolate it.

I am trying to get DText objects to update width factor when I change the Width Factor of the Text Style. We have one style (Simplex) & I hoped to be able to set the width factor of that style to 0.8 or 1.2 depending on what is required and then just insert objects from the tool palette so they have the correct width factor.
This seems to work for MText but not for DText or Attributes. Short of using lisp is there a to update the width factor of DText & Attributes? (hoping to be able to do this on LT also)
Only way I can see for DText is to qselect text and change style to something else and back to Simplex. Only way for attributes I've found is to advance edit block and change text style to something else and back.

Using CS5 and Win7. I just noticed something with my text in CS5 which is different from CS3 and as far as I'm concerned, a step back.

I made a text layer with some words. The words appeared as the layer name in the layers palate (say I typed "TEXT" on the screen and the text layer was named text). Then I double clicked on the text icon and this selected the word on the screen. I then changed the word "TEXT" to some other word say "WORD". However, this new word I typed in was not carried over to the layer name so the old layer name remained.Â

In CS3, the layer name is updated when the words on the screen are changed. I'd really like to have the new text update on the layer name. Is there some way to fix this or is this just something in my system.

I am using CS2 on a XP64 machine. I am editing a .psd originally created in Photoshop 7 but saved under a different file name in CS2.When I open the file, a dialog box with this text appears: "Some text layers need to be updated before they can be used for vector output. Do you want to update these layers now?" The options are No and Update. Updating the layers changes all the text layers from font "Times New Roman" to "Radioactive", which I'm sure isn't a standard installed font. To avoid the problem in future edits, I saved the .psd under a different name through CS2 and then deleted all the offending text layers and recreated them using "Times New Roman" again. However, after saving the file and reopening it, I get the same problem as before. Should I perhaps delete the "Radioactive" font? I'd really rather not have to enter all the text in again.

I have an Illustrator document I created some time back, probably in CS4 (but could have been CS2). It shows a road map and has lots of road names that follow the path of the associated road. When I open this doc in Illustrator CS6 I am told that the legacy text must be updated before it can be edited.

If I open the file without updating the text then everything looks fine but if I choose to accept the offer to update all the text then my road names appear with irregular character spacing that looks very ugly.

How I can update the text to CS6 without messing up the appearance?

In map3d i would like to add tables to objects such gas, sewer lines and so forth. I would like to specify which lines are composed of certain metals, their conduit size and year built.
I was wondering if it is possible to create a table similar to the one attached. I would like the table to have a domain drop down list, so that users can select from predefined entries, to avoid human error typos and keep good organization in the data entry.
Is this possible with map3d?

Well I had a day and a half trying to figure out how to bring Excel data into LT. Â Again. Here is what I have found out:
Running Excel 2010 I have a xls files (of type '97-2003 xls - file includes VBA).  The file spits out a ton of data that I want to put in a schedule in AutoCAD.  The schedule format needs to match our standard format  -  RomanS in white and blue.
If I copy and paste as a link the font remains stuck as Arial (regardless of source font) and can't be relaxed unless you go one cell at a time in the text editor.  Also the resultant table size is tiny -  Â
If I save the file to .XLSM (macro enabled '10 excel file) the results are the same. If I save the file to .XLSX ('10 excel file and ditch the VBA project) the results are sublime - the font is ok and I can go back and forth from AutoCAD to my now broken spreadsheet because VBA IS MISSING!   The resultant table size is tiny but I can deal. I don't see how AutoCAD can work with xlsx but not xlsm.  Â
I also found that if I save the sheet (values only) as a .csv file I can use that to create a table from file without font overrides screwing everything up. Â Â
I'm running AutoCAD LT 32bit on a Win7 32bit OS. Â My Office version is 2010. Â I would like to link data to a '97-'03 version of an xls or an xlsm without having the font overridden to Arial. Â

I have a need to delete all the tables in my drawing.
I started with the SS14 code from Jerry Winters VB.NET progamming and modified it to select tables. Unfortunately, when trying to select a table, the code does not work.  I tried it with Polylines, block references, Mtext and it worked OK with all of them. See the code below:

I am trying to insert tables into AutoCad from excel the problem that I have is with the text style.
Every time I copy and paste as a linked AutoCad entity the text does not come across as the correct text style - for example if I want the table text to come out as ISOCP it comes across in a bolder text, requiring me to enter in the cell and select ISOCP I don't have to highlight the text in the cell i only have to enter inside the cell.

I'm having a problem accessing data manager tables in the 2011 version. My C# .NET code worked fine with 2010. Here is a sample of the 2010 code that works, but returns zero length tables in 2011.

I have used DXF files in the past for flat non-complicated cnc machining. I have a situation were we manufacture pipe and I would like to create the pipe in 3 dimensionally in AutoCAD and convert the dwg file to a dxf file for the steel cutting table. Will the DXF conversion convert the round cyclinder in CAD to a flat suface for cutting?
