AutoCad :: Scale Polyline Of A Foil On One Axis
Mar 8, 2008I want to scale a polyline representation of a foil along one axis only, so that it becomes longer and thinner. Is there a way to do this .

I would like to know how to scale along X or Y axis. When I use the scale command I only see uniform scaling option.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a part and I need to scale it in the Z-axis only. It is impossible for me to rework the base geometry directly.
I have made some attempts to figure out how to do this on my own but all have failed:Thicken/OffsetCopy Object + Move Bodies + Combine (wouldn’t let me create a solid with Copy Object)Rectangular Pattern + Combine (works but not the desired result. adds a constant offset to the part, not % based, humongous model size)Derived component (uniform scaling only, prefer to modify the original file for file structure reasons)
I am told there is a way that i can scale a block in on just the Y or X axis. How do i do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to automatically project the x-axis, z-axis or z-axis onto the sketch plane?
I.e. every time you open a new sketch the corresponding lateral and vertical axis will be projected onto the sketch.
I have some issues with Raster Image lately when I wanted a scanned jpeg of 210 x 297 mm (a4 dimension) that I want to fit into a 180x220 mm rectangular box in Autocad. I have used Photoshop CS 3 to change the image size to 180x220.
However when I insert the Raster Image files, some files are automatically set to 180x220 (as expected) and others are scaled down and I have to re-scale them (reset the scale value to 1, change the x-value and the y-value is automatically changed, but on the overall it is 180x220, sometimes x is more than y or sometimes y is more than x, but within 1-3 mm)
I want to know :
1. What is the best principle or techniques of knowing/changing image dimension (mm)
2. How to be able to scale raster image in x-axis and y-axis independently of one another?
3. Remove white background to neutral background?
I have a polyline that has been inserted into a block. I want to scale the block so that the start and end points of the polyline can change but the width of the polyline remains constant.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow do I scale a group of polygons in their local axis? I have seen people doing this fine in Maya.
I have attached an image that explain this clearly. It's a simple cylinder, extruded and when I scale the extruded polygons in local x axis, they get scaled in crazy different axes.
I have several pillars that I want to scale down to the same size, but I don't want to have to scale them individually or reposition them once I'm done. Is there any way to scale them all without making them move along the axis being scaled? (I should have made them instances of each other. My only problem there is that I couldn't reposition one pillar without moving the others. for future reference, is there a way to temporarily break the instance relationship so on can be edited?)
View 2 Replies View Relatedon creating metallic text, chrome, brushed metal, etc., but I'm wondering if anyone has come across a way to create text that approximates a nice reflective look similar to when printers use foil stamping? Every now and then I'll see magazines and print work that have those beautiful reflective colors that catch the light in ways that really catch the eye, but I'm not sure if this can be recreated in Photoshop?
Another variation I'm interested in trying to create is text that looks like it has a metallic paint, similar to the way cars are painted, so that it's subtle, but you can see little flecks and dimension.

View 16 Replies View Relatedi try to make an animation. I create a cylinder and i want to rotate it by longitudinal axis. i click 'components', select the cylinder and after i click 'position' to select the axis that axis system appears in the right side of the cylinder not in the middle. If i continue whit this settings the cylinder will rotate by a circle not by his longitudinal axis. How can i move that axis sistem in the middle of the cylinder? I can drag it but can't place it exactly in the middle.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!
I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.
EDIT: Reduced picture size.
Is there a way, when you are drawing a polyline, to have the tooltip box show the cumulative length of the polyline, rather than the length of the current segment being drawn?

View 4 Replies View RelatedDue to modeling purposes, I need to convert a 3D polyline to a spline. What I have been doing is:
- change polyline fit/smooth to cubic from properties
- convert polyline to spline by typing spline -> object
- method -> fit from properties
You can see the original 3D polyline (green) and the resulting spline (magenta) in the attached drawing. When I zoom in and measure the distance between the two entities at different points along them, at some points the perpendicular distance exceeds 5 millimeters, and I want to ensure the deviation remains under 1 millimeter or even less.
I know I can change the knot parameterization of the spline, and this does work at some locations, but the difference increases at others. Why is there a 5.6 mm difference between the spline fit point and 3D polyline vertex, as measure in the attached drawing?
Now, I can go and manually stretch the fit point to coincide with the vertex. Also, I can add fit points between existing ones to drag the spline closer to the original 3D poly.
However, some of my polys are really long, and it is very time-consuming to do this manually while measuring points along the entities to make sure the distance stays small enough.
how to automate this process? For example a lisp that would maybe take the original vertex points, add say maybe 3 (not too many) new ones between them, and then generate a spline while making sure the deviation is less than the set value of 1mm? I am using AutoCAD 2013.
I've been working on a custom polyline object, and I've got it functioning!!Having said that, I plan to run its creation around picking a point for bounary selection.
(Other than trying to step through every vertecies) is there a technique I can thow the polyline data from a traceboundary result into my custom object? I've been trying to add the polyline from traceboundary to my object BEFORE it's added to the transaction by the way...I assume that's right, since I want to put it's data in my custom object then add my custom object to the transaction instead.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way at all to draw a new polyline - from the endpoint of another polyline, and have it automatically join as one polyline from the existing section??
I know this can be done via PEDIT, but its so laborious and soo many clicks, and I have alot of segmented Polylines that I need to consolidate when I draft.
Any way I can align a new polyline to a reference polyline (orig polyline).
The 2 polys will be generally the same length, however, the number of vertices will differ.
Also I need to mantain the same distance between the vertices on the new poly and the new and reference poly won't follow the same direction.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI can do this in AutoCAD Map but I have my doubts. I will explain in ESRI GIS terms (this is what I am familiar with) and I hope you can tell me if I can do this in AutoCAD Map. In ESRI ArcMap I can select a line and I can hit a Select by Location button. In this window I can select all of the objects that intersect my selected line. Then I can delete them or export them etc.
In AutoCAD Map I have a polyline selected. It is my road centerline. I want to be able to select all of the other polylines that intersect my selected polyline. Is there a way to do this? I need to erase those polylines. Usually I will pan to each of them and select them individually. It just seems to take a lot of time. My AutoCAD co-worker said I could use a fence and draw the fence through my polylines. It seemed to work ok but I accidently deleted extra things that I needed. So I'm back to manually selecting each one by one unless you know a different way.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just updated to Autocad 2013. While working on existing drawings (previously created in V2012), I am having issues with the SCALE command. Most times, but not always, when I add a line or block, with a base point on an existing line or object and try to scale it, I get an "extremely small scale factor ignored" message, although I did not get a chance to enter a scale factor. While it appears most times, but not always, if I draw a new line in empty space on that same drawing, I am able to use the SCALE command without problems. I also have the same issue when trying to scale an existing line or block, most times but not always.
Here is a copy of the command line while I am trying to make it work:
Command: l
LINE
Specify first point:
Specify next point or [Undo]: 100
Specify next point or [Undo]:
Command: sc
SCALE
Select objects: 1 found
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
Command:
SCALE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found, 2 total
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
If you notice, it does not give me the chance to enter a scale factor. As soon as I pick the base point, it skips over to the error message, yet displays the scale factor prompt with a blank factor. I'm experiencing this issue on various files (not all but most), so I don't think it is a corrupt file. Why I get this and if I can correct it?
am in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.
I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.
The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout. The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.
I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".
Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.
