AutoCad :: Multiple PDFs In One Go?
Oct 24, 2012
I have over 150 ISOs made and ready to be converted into PDF but I don't know a way to do this without opening each one idividually and printing it to my PDF writer. There must be an easier and faster way to do bulk PDFs.

I am trying to batch plot to PDF's from a drawing file that has multiple tabs in it. I would like each tab to be a separate PDF file. We are utilizing Acrobat X to write the PDF's. AutoCAD places all of the tabs into one file whether I tell a Multi-sheet file or a Single-sheet file.

From all our parts of an assembly we made 1 IDW with multiple sheets. Now we want to convert this IDW to PDF's and in such a way that we have one PDF for each sheet, and each PDF files needs the same name as the sheet.

I'm trying to find a way to plot multiple (over a thousand) DWG files to PDF without doing each one manually. I've played around a little bit but without any luck. I'm using AutoCAD 2002 LT. Is there any way to do this?
I've also got little to no experience with the more complex settings and abilities of autocad so do so in laymans terms.
2002 lt has no general publish (only publish to web) option and how sheet sets work.

I'm using AutoCAD Mech 2008. is there a way to publish multiple dwg files to individual pdf's.
Right now I typically plot to Adobe PDF, extents/center to plot/fit to paper/monochrome.
Upon doing a search, someone mentioned "AutoPublish" upon closing. Is this an option, and if so, is it my only option?

If I open a 4-page PDF in CorelDraw, I can edit anything in it. But if I save my changes, it saves as a 4-page cdr file. But I want to save the changes to the PDF. Is the only way to save the changes to the pdf file to re-publish the whole 4 pages to PDF again and have it replace the old one when asked? Wouldn't this further compress any jpgs?
Re-publishing the whole thing and changing the settings to no compression (and remembering to reset them back again later!) seems very inefficient......The question, of course applies to single page pdf's as well, but I'm thinking of deleting or adding a page or changing page order.

In Adobe Illustrator CS5, you now have the capability give a name to each artboard in your illustrator file. I understand that you can easily save each artboard as separate AI files but I would like to save them as separate PDFs instead.
Any script, or know the actual method of doing so? All I can possibly theorize is to save the artboards as separate PDFs and then have Acrobat convert those artboards to PDFs.

I figure many of you do as I do, drawing things to plot blueprints. It just so happens that I'm often sent PDFs of drawings to plot, but for some reason I have trouble with them.
Suppose I have a standard drawing that is meant for a 24x36 Arch D sheet size. It will always plot 36" because it has to, that is the paper width of the roll. But for some reason, it will stop shy of 24" and cut the paper as much as 4 or 6 inches short, instead of printing the full 24".
The drawing inside the PDF is exactly right, the Adobe Acrobat Reader shows the drawing fine, it fits within the margins, it's not scaled, the sheet size is shown accurately. Based on the visuals and settings, all things are great. I've got the paper set to 36" roll, opaque bond, no scaling because I need it to print accurately.
However, when it prints, some of the drawing is cut off at the bottom and at the top, and instead of 24" it cuts the paper at 18 or 20". I don't get it. It shows 24" in the print wizard, the correct paper size is shown, the preview images looks great. All things check OK, and then it prints and cuts off the graphic and makes a short sheet.
I'm afraid to try scale to 100% or scale to sheet size, because the people who have to use this need to scale it on paper with a ruler and I can't have it stretching or shrinking the print.
What gives with Acrobat printing? Need to plot PDFs accurately? It would be one thing to simply cut the sheet where the graphic ends, but this is actually stopping shy of printing the graphic altogether and cutting the sheet early before it reaches 24".

I am wanting to import pdf's of drawings into my AC08. I just want them in there for reference purposes, i draw submittals and have them in pdf format and on paper, just on big jobs nice to be able to just scroll over and reference rooms and such. I dont need them to be to scale or scalable. I copied and pasted some in but they were so small, by the time i zoomed in on them they just look like a bunch of vectors and not very legible.

I'm used to using AutoCad R14 and just recently had to purchase AutoCad 2010. The printing service that I have to use has to have the drawings in a PDF format and I found out how to make the conversion. However, the lineweights, the linetypes and the linetype scales are all out of wack. I have read about setting up a CBT file, but apparently I'm missing something someplace. I want to plot by color to achieve lineweight. Linetypes and linetype scales are set when the object is drawn, where the default is Continuous and 1 respectively.

I have several pdf's that I have inserted into a dwg file and when I attempt to plot the file they print with transparency. I have adjusted the contrast, fade and monochrome settings to no avail (also assigned line weight is not set for transparency). Interestingly, the print preview window shows the attachments correctly, but the resulting pdf file when printed contains the attachments printed very faintly.

We need to be able to print each sheet to it's own PDF (preferably automatically naming the pdf in the process). I can't seem to find a way to do it in Inventor itself or the Task Scheduler. I imagine it's something that needs to be present in the PDF driver, but CutePDF and Acrobat Printer don't seem to have that option. Is there one that does?
Surprisingly, AutoCAD and Revit BOTH have this ability. Inventor seems to be the only Autodesk packaging lacking the ability.

I have been using CorelDRAW to PDF's with vector information to DWG's. It is not something I do often so it was fine. I got a few more PDF drawings and decided to try the converters available. These are the trial versions, but the output seems to be worse than what I get with Corel.

Every time I try to plot something with a PDF embedded it takes a very long time to spool and plot. Additionally, a PDF in the drawing slows it down so significantly it's almost not worth using..This happens whether the PDF is less than 1 MB or 50 MB...no difference. Has this been fixed in 2012? Why to PDF's do such a drain on system resources when they're such small files to begin with?

noticed that the file size of pdf's created using the publish command in C3D 2014 are much larger than files created using 2013? I'm talking twice the size in some cases. I've gone through the settings and found no differences, but there must be something I'm missing. When I use the plot command on a single layout, the file sizes are similar, so there must be something in the publish command.

Using the autopublish command, I'm getting PDF files that display just fine on my monitor, but then when I try to print I get this series of error messages:
"The document could not be printed."
"There were no pages selected to print."
"A drawing error occurred."
But the most frustrating thing is that it only happens for some .dwg files, not all. It seems that the larger they are and the more pages involved, the more likely they are to produce this error.
EDIT: I just went through and tried to print page by page. It turns out of the 22 pages, the only two that won't print and give the errors above have no viewports and are just two large tables filled with text. Is there anything I can do to these tables to make the pages print?

I've used batch plot to make pdf copies of my drawings in version 2004 and did not have this issue:
In 2010 when I use batch plot to pdf (say for 5 drawings), it produces one single pdf file with 5 sheets. I want an individual pdf file for each drawing (5 pdfs).
I don't want to have to open each drawing and plot. That's what batch plot is for!

I am having a problem getting PDFs to plot when I have plot transparency on.
I use the dwg to pdf plot function and with plot transparency on... my hatches work perfectly but my PDFs appears very much screened. (As a 50% or more screen would look) If I turn off the plot transparency, the pdf works perfectly but of course my hatch shades obliterate any line work beneath them.
I was able to convert the PDF to a .tiff, with a graphics program... increase the resolution to 600dpi and use imageattach to bring that in. But it is an extra step for each insert and increased dpi = increased file size.
Other than increasing the resolution on the PDF, any way around this "screening" issue on PDFs when plotting with transparency on?

Publishing to PDF as single sheets for insertion into other documents or page managers (such as Indesign) works fine, apart from the fact that it makes crappy work of JPGs should any be embedded in the CAD file. Plotting individually using high quality PDF settings also works but it's difficult with large sets.
Therefore, I would like to publish a tab set to PDF using the plotter named in page setup. However, what this does, is it forces me to pick the file name and locaiton each time, rather than using the one specified in the publish dialog. Is there a way around this? That is, can I make the named plotter behave like the "DWG to PDF" one (that is, name the files automatically)?
If not, can I make the "DWG to PDF" one not compress JPGS?
As to why - I work in a mac environment and everyone draws in Illustrator. I use CAD and many times, for large projects, need this sort of page management. And every once in a while, I need to insert a rendering into a CAD document and then publish.

I’m having a user profile issue on one computer. I have a user, using windows 7 and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014 on his work station. When using Civil 3D he has two issues: one, he cannot import Dgn’s. I’ve tried everything it just won’t work. Second, he cannot xref or insert PDF’s into a drawing. Now the reason why I say this is a profile issue is because if I log on to his computer (or anyone else log’s on his computer), I can do all those things in Civil 3D, import DGN’s & insert/xref PDF’s. If this user log’s on my computer, he can do all those things in Civil 3D. Import DGN’s & insert/xref PDF’s. Something with his profile on his computer is corrupt and I’m trying to fix it without deleting and creating another user profile.

is there a way to code inserting all pdfs in a multi-page pdf at once?
another one would be, say, you have several pdfs in your dwg that represent different aspects of the same space so you select them (they are on top of each other) and it puts them into a dynamic block automatically in different visualization states (maybe labeled 01,02,03 etc.) and you make one of the sheets visible with a drop down button.
i might be able to figure out the later if there is a way to do the former.

I'm running Autocad Architecture 2013. My .dwg has about 15 pdf's in it (from a consultant that does hand drawings that I scan in, and use the image manager to insert into my drawing). The PDF's range from under 1mb, to 10mb. The PDFs are in model space and within my various drawing sheets, I show them in my drawing sheets via multiple viewports. I noticed that when I go to plot a sheet that has pdfs shown in viewports, and click on PLOT PREVIEW, the PDF's don't show up - everything else shows up, linework, jpegs, etc, but not the PDF's! I fiddled with the viewports and noticed that if some part of the PDF's image frame was visible in the Viewport, the PDF would appear in Print Preview. But if the viewport sat directly over the PDF's image frame, the PDF would not show up in the Plot Preview!!!
Could it be I've exceeded the maximum number of Viewports in my entire .dwg? (I have about 16 sheets), Or, could it be some mysterious autocad system variable that I'm running up against.

I would like to use the plot function to generate 3 individual PDFs from a 3-sheet idw in Vault.Requirements:
1. Each PDF needs to be named after a certain field that is already populated in iProperties
2. All PDFs need to be output to a fixed folder in Vault
I have tried some iLogic codes and indeed it is possible to do that from within Inventor. But should we need to print a large number of idws that will be a nightmare for me.
